EOS's Voice could actually end up being good news for Steemit and Steem!

in #steem6 years ago

It appears EOS's Voice may not be the Steemit.com killer many thought after all!

After sifting through the news and details about the new Voice release, I feel better than ever how it relates to steem and steemit.com.

Why do I think that?

Well for a couple reasons actually...

But mainly in the core differences between the two.

For some of the details on how Voice will differ from Steemit.com, see my post yesterday:

https://steemit.com/steemit/@jrcornel/eos-announces-voice-what-does-that-mean-for-steemit-com

The differences are why Steemit.com will benefit.

To fully illustrate what I mean by that, see this little nugget pasted from @liondani in my post yesterday:

Seeing this really got me thinking...

So, we have a platform in Voice that will require people to verify their identity in order to use it. That is fine and makes a lot of sense, however, it won't appeal to everyone.

There are many out there that simply would rather mostly remain anonymous online.

And that is where steemit.com comes in...

My thoughts on how exactly this will benefit steemit.com...

Voice and EOS are likely going to spend large amounts of money promoting Voice, which will likely bring in many new users that are not currently in the crypto space.

Undoubtedly, some of those users will prefer to remain anonymous with their posting/blogging. Which points them right to steemit.com and steem.

Which means, steemit.com and steem may indirectly benefit significantly from the Voice promotions/advertising.

People originally thought that perhaps the new social app by EOS could possibly be the end of steemit.com, but seeing how different they are, it is possible that Voice actually helps steemit.com!

How's that for ironic! :)

Stay informed my friends.

steem, steemit is a company using steem blockchain.

Ha, I think you mean website using the steem blockchain. Steemit, inc is the company that runs steemit.com. Trust me, I am very aware the differences between steem and steemit.com.

steemit can fail, steem not so easy...

Correct, though if the price of steem gets low enough it will cost witnesses potentially more than they are earning to secure the network. Though we are talking much lower prices as the top 20 are all making more than plenty even at these depressed prices...

What's your position on EIP in HF21?

There is also talk that VOICE is after @twitter which is basically sharing platform for short message or links. On the other hand, steemit is different more close to reddit. More like an amalgamation of Medium and reddit.

Block. One Launches Twitter Competitor Called ‘Voice’

Yep, though they clarified that they want to target all forms of blogging and social media.

I believe the reference to Twitter was only in that initial release by Bloomberg.

It makes me even think about what the overall thought for EOS is as well! They have mentioned the potential ties to the US government so I am watching this carefully. Ironic as the ICO was not even available to US investors!

I wonder if the beta test will be open to any US users?

Da fuq? Maintain privacy by correlating an anon account to a verified account?

I will open an account with the goal of automating the posting of anon accounts blogs excluding my own.

It says post a link. So perhaps you are able to post links without verifying?

I'm not sure how they plan to authenticate users, but that would imply you could post using an anon eos account or a proxy account, but only if it's a link. Links are the most dangerous things you can post, so that would be an insane thing to allow if you are trying to protect your user base from malicious actors.

Yep I agree. Not sure how exactly it will work, but judging from Dan's comment there it sounds like links could be posted without having to verify? Of perhaps Voice will know your identity but it doesn't have to be revealed publicly on the platform if you just post links from other blogs?

That could eventually happen, yes. Would be ironic tho.

Maybe Dan decides to come back to steem? :D

Haha I don't think that ever happens. There seemes to be some burnt bridges judging by his comments towards steem over the past 12 months.

Yeah I know, I'm just joking. Hopefully our marketing game will step up somehow very soon.

Yep I hope so too. Even if it doesn't though, I would think Voice bringing in new users to crypto could spill over and benefit steemit and steem by those not wishing to verify their identity.

But how do voice users become aware of steem?

Good question. As people are sharing links from steemit.com they are likely to notice it. Plus the longer they are in the crypto space the more likely they are to hear about steem as it was Dan's project before EOS/Voice.

also you can promote steem in voice..but voice is not comming now..updates on eos must be made...

Very interesting, I hope you are right about Voice, helping steemit.com

This same concept applies to all the open source projects in the space. For example, there is no such thing as an 'Ethereum Killer'. All open source projects complement each other. It is impossible to compete, especially when you consider that far less than 1% of the population are currently participating in these communities.

When someone gets it right, they better promote the heck out of it to grab users, and then they better keep innovating to keep those users and stay ahead of the rest.

its actually a really good thing keeping in mind what potential steemit holds

Howdy sir jrcornel! Very insightful take on this and you could very well be right! I hope they spend tens of millions in advertising.

They have it. I believe they said hundreds of millions to spend.

wow. Ok, probably good for us. Thank you sir jrcornel!

Voice is a steeming pile of shit! I wouldn't touch that centralized ponzi scheme with a 10 ft pole and ackza tied to the end of it!

Tell me how you really feel about it!

I feel like punching that little EOS fan boy Ackza right in his big fat mouth! lmao

We should probably be rooting for it to bring in millions of people to the space. Some of that would likely bleed over into steemit and steem.

I don't root for the all-knowing governmental overlords with their green peering eyes and their fiat stained with the greasy fingerprints of bankers.

Well they are likely to bring value with them. Value that may not come otherwise.

No, I will not sell my soul for a quick buck, Bitcoin and blockchain was created to free us from this exact same current centralized ponzi system. Voice does not operate on a blockchain, it's just a centralized ledger that records your ID and data better than any other platform in history. No thank you!
