Today was my day off. So it was the perfect opportunity to consume content before I decided to write my own thoughts. Read...Upvoted...Skipped way too many too since they were of no interest to me and here I am.
I was searching the new and hot section mostly when I stumbled upon this article whose author and I are definitely on the same page regarding Steem and obvioucly other aspects in life too.
Steem is supposed to be fun and rewarding, but that doesn't mean that these things comes without effort. Steem is supposed to take time. It's a steep learning curve for many users and people are supposed to struggle.
I don't think I could have said it any better than this and it's like he is speaking my mind. Steem isn't what you were promised when you accidentally found out about it. Steem is a "fight." A daily "fight," with your own self and your daemons.
It's the first time I was able to make money online just by trying to be...me, and if it wasn't for Steem, all these thoughts would have stayed locked and buried in some dark corner of my head, forever.
Does that mean that my journey has been like a walk in the park? Hell No. More like a walk through the desert...You know, I used to be a newcomer too...and have been rewarded as such until a few months ago. Is this supposed to be a bad thing?
I am still here and I will continue to do what I enjoy most regardless of rewards. I've often stated that I love that struggle, the anxiety...it gets the best out of me.
I am sure everyone would love to have their "personal whale" following him around and upvoting whatever they decided to upload, isn't that right? And you think this is fun? There's no room for self improvement it things were so simple and easy. Well, I have bad news for you dear reader. Things don't work like that around here...there are of course some exceptions to that rule but for the vast majority of people who are here, things look different.
When something of value is simply given to you...it's always underappreciated.
Remember that bicycle that was given to you when you were 10 as a present for your birthday? 2 months later it was probably broken...and forgotten in the garage. Or how about that car that your daddy bought you the day you turned 18? I am sure six months later and you haven't washed it once...
But look at you now!! Look at this small apartment you decided to rent when you decided that you needed your own space...You struggle to pay the rent of course, but there are touches of you everywhere...You've been busting your ass to work to be able to pay the bills but the moment you step in...you feel proud, don't you?
Found something useful so far? Good. Welcome to Steem!
I never said I am a saint and that I am here only for the cause. Of course I like it when my efforts are rewarded. And I fall into the group of people that don't care about the price of Steem on this stage. I care more about the development and the progress that is being made. And working towards making this place a lot better.
Do you see that chart right above? Well this is Apple's stock. Since 1980 till the end of 2003, twenty three full years, the price of the stock was in a swamp. Fluctuating from 0.50$ - 1 $. For 23 damn years...and in 2004...the stock started going up and up and never looked back....Can you guess the reasons why?
Was it because they didn't deliver? Maybe because their end product was for targeted groups only? Until they gave to the masses all the knowledge and technology they gathered from the previous years into a single small device. A device which is right next to your desk as you read these lines...
How about Amazon? Exactly the same case...Actually this is the path for almost every big brand out there....
Now tell me again, do you really think that Steem is ready to give to the masses the new killer app? No we are not...But we are doing good...And when that killer app is ready...the rest will be history...The price of Steem will never look back as well...
Till then...be patient and enjoy your time here.
Cheers!
total truth.. well done
Thank you
That is one big truth! I'm trying to teach my kid to EARN things as it grows... I know that it is maybe too early for him, but, I SEE that he respects a lot more when he uses something that he bought/created with his money/hands...
It's the same with adults... If we don't put skin in the game, we don't appreciate it...
Thanks for this awesome post!
It has a name...human nature...
Thanks for your kind words and for being around also! Have a great one
I'm glad you liked the article, and you are right. We don't value things that are easy to get as much as things we need to work long and hard for. You usually enjoy those things more than the stuff you get easily.
Loved it actually. Like I said...you were speaking my mind...if people could see the greater picture...
Yeah, I think the majority of all these recent complaints we've seen after HF21 is due to how things were in the past. It was easy to earn, depending on what you did, and due to that, I think people started to feel entitled to rewards in some sense.
I mean, if people could earn in the past without putting in tons of effort, I can see why some of them are far from satisfied with the #newsteem mindset and approach.
Here we are, being patient till reaching the moon!
Because we will arrive, soon or later...
Probably later...but I don't mind :)
I always try to figure out the value of things I give for free. I find things that are undervalued are intangible things like love trust respect kindness friendship, etc.
As long as those who receive them DO appreciate them you are fine. But that's rarely the case
I really identify with what your saying here. I think people don’t value things which are given to them. I tell my children that every time J give people things or perform services for people I find they treat those things badly, as if they are worthless. But when those same people pay money for goods and services inferior to mine they treat them like gold. So I have a rule that nothing is for free.
I also really like what you said about being successful here on Steem. In this life nothing is given to you, unless your parents earn it and give it to you!
Steem is a reflection of life, you have to work hard, study and learn what’s profitable and what works. My path here has been hard, but this difficulty made me savor the wins and motivates me to try harder.
I also think Steem is like an undiscovered gem, when something happens and the rest of crypto takes a look it will moon. I don’t pretend to know when this will be, but until then I study, learn, accumulate and build my business here in Steem blockchain. This is an income producing asset, but it’s also a business. People should work it, like a farmer works his fields.
As for the HardFork, the only thing constant in life is change. We all must acknowledge how little control we have over things external to us, accept it, adapt to change and move forward.
If you must complain a bit, do it, then move on. Adapt and survive.
