ABOUT STEEMING BEING A JOB

in #steem6 years ago

I think if anyone should know this better it would be me since I am a full-time steemian. Well, that was not the case yesterday. So please permit me to throw more light on this issue.

So when one gets a job they are supposed to provide some sort of service which enables their organization to achieve its major goal, which is to make a profit. Now relate this to steem. You are an employee of steem (not steemit/stinc or ned) and your primary task is to add value to the platform with your service(s), which in the long run should add value (profit) to you in terms of rewards.

Now, for you to make a profit you need to provide a service that is in demand and not just any service. Take, for example, a desert scenario. The most valuable product/service you can offer someone stuck in a desert would be water or a camel for their journey. Giving someone who is stranded in the desert money could be unreasonable because it is not useful in this scenario. So basically, the service must match the demand.

What valuable service are you offering steem?

Are you a poet like myself? Do you know anyone who consumes poetry? Are they willing to consume your poetry? And are they willing to pay(upvote) for your service/talent? And how does this benefit your employer, steem? You cannot post whatever you like without considering whether people value this said thing and expect to earn. Chances are you will earn close to nothing, well except you're part of a supportive community or you can afford a bidbot. This is how things work here.

So as someone who takes their job serious you need to be flexible, especially on a platform like ours. I started off as a poet/writer but hardly will you find poems and short stories on my page. Yes, I do write them occasionally but I do understand that there is little or no demand for such content here. Those kinds of posts might earn me a few points outside the steem ecosystem, that's why whenever I make such posts I endeavor to share them on other social platforms I use. It won't earn me money, but I enjoy making such posts and the positive feedback I get when I make such posts. In fact, I was in the process of writing one before my siblings returned home and now I have abandoned it till tomorrow when I have the house all to myself. Notwithstanding I need to keep my steem job, and the only way to do that is to make my boss, steem, happy. So you get the picture. It is not about providing a service, people must want to consume it as well. There must be a demand for it.

To be honest, I get frustrated when I get low payouts on quality post people don't care about. However, I will still make those type of posts regardless and still tailor my content to the demands of this platform, and this is how I balance things.

If steem is a job for you then you need to take it seriously. If you see yourself as an employee or a stakeholder on steem then you must put in time and effort in making sure that you don't only profit but also sustain your business/stake and improve on your existing service, knowing fully well that you are fighting for a scarce resource(rewards). Or you can simply just have fun on the platform, that works too.

Nothing is given freely. Even those annoying posts on the trending page paid for their spot. So think and strategize on how to better the services you can provide your boss, steem. Be the best employee steem can get and you will not only get promoted, but you will also get rewarded.

Hi @nonsowrites !
Thats what i highlighted in my yesterday's post. Mostly whales are exchanging their votes to eaxh other and they are not willing to reward quality contents. Thats not fair. Big stake holders should create a balance. Quality content creaters should be awarded for their quality.
I saw mny quality contents that dont earn anything while on the other hand some are earning a lot by just posting an image. Thats not fair. The whales should review their behaviour.

You can't really look to the whales. There are less than 40 of them here. You can do just fine be seeking, following, and interacting with the people that do support the little people here. Don't look at the "unfair" rewards. Instead look at what you can do to improve your own performance.

I have this old post with a billion minnow tips to help us all succeed. There are so many balls to juggle but it can be done.

I hope you will consider getting involved with freewrite by @mariannewest. We are always looking out for poets and are very supportive. @wandrnrose7 creates a digest of poetry, and we also have contests. It's a really good group of people over there.

It is not easy to get established here as a writer or poet, but I think you can find an audience if you persevere.

I'm part of the freewrites community, though I have been a bit inactive. My focus this month is on capacity building and helping other upcoming steemians with my delegated steem power. I promise to stop by to interact with other members and support in my own little way

Freewrite is such a good place to post your creativity! It's only 5 minutes to write and maybe 15 minutes tp publish from start to finish. I have seen so many new people succeed here by using it. Even if you do not do it yourself, please be on the lookout for others who can benefit. We cannot be steemit bloggers if we do not blog. A consistent daily post is the most important thing we can do.

You could point them to the freewrite and the @freewritehouse. we do lots of things for newbies to participate, to win SBI and upvotes :) together, we can grow everything and everybody 👍

Great perspective which is what I always look for when consuming content here. I know that I am not the best in many things and my goal is to share perspectives and gain insight and feedback to consider on those thoughts. I hope I am able to do the same. As of late I have also taken the interest in being able to help in the ecosystem as I have realized that value is from all and not from a single individual. While I could use my stake for myself, what good is 100% of zero, right? Instead, how can I use it to create value and motivation for other that will come back in value to the ecosystem! It may not be my job now but would not mind if it became it in the future.

I'm also focus on capacity building. I think it's important we empower others. I wrote this post as a result of a conversation I had with a fellow steemian. Many people do not understand how things work on here. And I'm trying to break that down into simple bits. Unfortunately the people I was trying to enlighten did not want to learn.

It is really frustrating indeed. I'm even more frustrated when I see other people create such amazing content on here that don't get rewarded in kind. Yesterday was great example.. I read this amazing, super high quality post, but they got a tiny, tiny reward. Right next to that on my timeline was a selfie that got double digit rewards. So frustrating :)

Hopefully as the middle class grows on Steem, those issues will be resolved.

Yeah, true that. But I believe in the future, give or take 3-5years from now we will have a more balanced ecosystem. Yes, the bots and whales will grow bigger but so will the minnow/dolphins (orcas are already big :p). So, for now, we just have to endure, lol (sounding like a typical Nigerian)

This is a valuable post, thank you sharing your prospective on steem. I've certainly learnt something from this post. I will have to come up with a creative way to offer my services. I'm slowly getting the hang of this platform, the more I post the more I learn. This was a inspirational read. Thank you.
