As Stem is not Steemit, what TRON would be buying is a private company, however that company doesn't own the blockchain - yet does have a proverbial crapload of STEEM powered up which can be used in various ways.
Well, that's true. However, we must also consider that this same company (Stinc) is the one owning the essential core code of the steem blockchain and who currently leads its evolution and features development. (SMTs, Communities, etc.)
For the rest of us however, what would change as STEEM holders?
Well, if anything. If it's true Justin Sun ends up acquiring Steemit. We could possibly expect some delays, hiccups, trips ups & slip downs in said evolution and features development.
Yes they own it, but they aren't the only ones who can own it as it is opensource. The witnesses can implement code.
I don't follow what Tron does very closely, but Sun seems to like publicity.
Yeah! looks like publicity, a bit of crypto market's disturbance, some promotional rampage and hype commotion may well be behind of Sun pleasures and bizniz strategies through this all of the sudden news and rumors.
In any case, I suspect all this white noise could only benefit us in the short term compared to the evident mainstream marketing shyness shown by Stinc all these years. };)
As for the fact that the steem code is opensource and it can be implemented by the witnesses and everyone else. Yes that's true, but also would imply further atomization and fragmentation of the common goals scattered across many different tribe interests which could probably slow down the march to where we all as a collective want to arrive asap.
