Today it is official, I turned 40.
40 years old and, 40,000 Steem Power.
While sad on the first milestone, the second is pretty cool. I never thought I would make it to this point and while it has been a lot of work and at times, a fair amount of sacrifice, I am glad that I have gone through it.
Actually, I never thought I'd make it to 40 years of age either as it was touch and go from about 18-21 and the damage done by a host of factors and how they will affect my future health is unknowable. Still, life is what it is.
Someone said a couple weeks back that it is impossible for someone to reach dolphinhood unless benefiting from the early high inflation but I think that is nonsense, considering I didn't and I know others who came in well after me who have earned a fair amount of Steem too. Yeah, it isn't easy.
Looking at the current price it looks like I have unfortunately missed my opportunity to buy cheap Steem with my new job earnings by a couple weeks, I don't think it will drop back to 20 cents again for a while, if ever.
It is kind of interesting to think that the last ATH was more than a year ago at 8.30 but since that time there is about 10% or 30,000,000 more Steem in the total supply pulled from the inflation pool. That is a significant amount more coins going out to accounts and at the current price, about 16 million more dollars worth of wealth into the community. Not a bad year for Steem really.
It is also something people don't often think about when it comes to the price of Steem as there is only about 25% of the supply on the exchanges at any given time meaning, that is all that need to pump. Market cap value is based on that price however, not everyone can sell at that price of course. The amount of Steem sold at $8.30 was minimal and, it wasn't at that price for more than a couple minutes before dropping down as the market dumped.
At some point, with a whole host of ways to earn on Steem in the future, the will to sell is unlikely to be as high as selling means not being able to take advantage of other revenue streams. @steemmonsters introduced card delegation yesterday which means those who invested in rare cards might make a pretty penny renting their card out, rather than selling it outright. I don't have any SM cards still... One day @aggroed, one day.
Of course, the same type of investment opportunities are going to be available for other assets like Steem Power some time also. Resource Credit pools and account creation come to mind, as well as paid delegations by communities and companies for various reasons.
As I have been trying to push for a little while now, the idea that Steem is a currency is becoming more nonsensical by the day as the protocol is what has true value. It is an asset class and one that is highly versatile and becoming more so as usecases continue to build.
Yes, you could potentially buy a cup of coffee with an upvoted but where the real opportunity lays is being able to invest into a building development or a startup company with an upvote instead.
Using Steem as an asset to enable buy-in to other assets is where the future is heading I think and the way the Blockchain can track and trace as well as PoS allowing for stake-weighted investment, real world business could fund parts of their development quickly with Steem and at a better rate than the middlemen banks are offering.
The economic future is really bright on Steem and in crypto in general for those who are willing to take the risk and keep growing their assets. For the blockchains that allow for staked earnings and usability , the future may be even brighter as rather than only an incentive to sell for value, there is the potential to earn by holding and what tends to happen in places like Steem is, communities form.
Yes, it is a new industry and there are a lot of problems but each day there are a growing number of solutions being provided at higher and higher levels. I am looking forward to when the Steem.DAO that @blocktrades rolls out soon to see what kind of potential it will hold and whether in combination with the rising price rise, we can attract more developers and in turn, contributors and consumers.
At the moment it feels like there are quite a few distributed processes going on that are converging upon a point in the near future that allows them to compound heavily against each other. It is going to get pretty exciting as it all comes together.
Last night at dinner, I was telling my wife about the future and she said "You said the same last birthday too" and she is right, I did. The timeline at this point doesn't matter too much and since that birthday 1 year ago, I am more confident than ever on Steem future as it has matured a lot and right now, we are closing in on that convergence point.
Once those lines hit, it will not be too long after that Steem starts gaining real momentum and attracting attention from not only the crypto communities but the mainstream world. People forget that we live at the time of the attention economy and once Steem starts to grab attention, we already have a community and an economy to capitalize on it.
When it comes to onboarding into crypto and blockchains, Steem is not only a soft start, it is a place where people are able to learn and take advantage of crypto by doing a lot of what they are already currently doing online.
What I am hoping is that the DAO will be used to not only innovate but also, simplify and create familiar experiences for new users. There are so few who have seen Steem and when they arrive, familiarity combined with the technology is going to be a massive draw card.
In time, the 40,000 Steem I have will hopefully by very valuable bit, what I am able to accomplish with it might be invaluable.
What feels like slowly, the world is changing but it is happening much faster than it feels. Only ten years ago Bitcoin began and was a joke for many yet, is being taken a lot more seriously now. 3 years ago Steem began and I don't think it is going to take another 7 years for it to make massive inroads in the world and, it is going to do it from the ground up through distributed communities.
I love being part of this and if you are here, you are part of it too. You might not hold the same beliefs as me in the future but, that is the beauty of Steem and why I think it is going to eventually go insane because, at all levels, people can take part and find or create a space for themselves in the digital economy.
Steem is an asset and the form it takes depends on the way we use it. The only thing that is required, is participation. How you do that is your choice and responsibility.
Thank you to all of the long-term supporters who have helped me get to this point so far, there is a long way to go but, I am grateful. I normally don't do this but I will mention a few of the accounts that have supported me heavily for a long time. What I love about these accounts is that they are people who have read and commented on my work as well as supported countless others in many forms.
Thank you:
@acidyo @v4vapid @pharesim @blocktrades @canadian-coconut @m31 @kommienezuspadt @abh12345 @theycallmedan @lemony-cricket @fknmayhem @honeydue @kevinwong @newageinv @organduo @galenkp and countless others that I am forgetting, but give me a break... 40 years old.
Thank you again, see you all well past the moon - closer to the sun.

That’s a nice amount of steem power!! Happy birthday
Yeah, I am actually pretty impressed by it myself :D Never thought I'd get this deep.
Two very good milestones. I am a believer along with you about this place and don't see the 7 years either. Things happen and change too quickly and change is happening right now. I love it when you said your wife said you said the same thing last year. The difference is you have most likely doubled in size and the stars are starting to line up.
I think in the last year I have managed to double but I am unsure what the next double point will be, 50? :D long way to go and I am happy being a part of it.
I don't think that long and maybe half that time depending on what happens here. Who knows where the price is going, but it is looking good as Steem seems to be one of the only genuine coins really making some noise on the exchanges.
Grats!
Thank mate.
Congratulations and happy birthday! One thing worries me however. For two successive years you've been talking to your wife at your birthday dinner about Steem? Young man. We need a chat....
Take it, easy and thanks for being one of the most readable people on the chain :-)
It is my birthday, I will do what I want!!! :D
Either way, she is just going to roll her eyes...
Happy Birthday Taraz! You know? I don't think I know another person who has worked as hard as you do every single day and every waking hour. You deserve every bit of it and more! I am learning so much from you. Thank you for everything! <3
I learn just as much from you, just o other things :) Thanks for always being there and supporting in all the different ways you do :*
Congratulations on being old.. did you know that your face starts melting between 40 and 50? ;)
Now is still a great time to buy, though it seems STEEM in bucking the trend.. and about time. I'm glad I got so much of mine cheap.
I can't agree with that 'someone' abut this statement.
My face started withering long ago... :)
You must be feeling pretty good right about now at this price and I am hoping it will keep climbing for you... Or fall drastically for me ;)
People have their views of the platform from their experience without recognising there can be very different experiences here.
Considering the rest of the major's are still going sideways, I have to say.. whats going on? Its still going up.. at 53c now.
Yeah, it is looking good. It will fall but I don't think that 30 cents will happen.
Have a great birthday my friend! You thank us yet it is your words that encourage great engagement and add value for us to benefit from. You should really dive into @steemmonsters as it is really a fun way to engage as well and add to potential content. Let me know as I can give you some cards if you need!

I have no time for it and, I might get roped in like I was when I was a gamer :D Thanks fo engaging over the months and I am hoping that this will all work out well for all of us, no matter what application path we take.
Congrats on second youth, mate!
To many more and many much more awesome years!
Cheers and thank you. The next however many years we have, is going to get better in ways we are yet to have dreamed of yet. It is just the start - now I wish I was a little younger to enjoy it all ;)
I’m totally gonna beat Keith Richards, not just outlive him.
This is just the beginning, indeed. Those endless hours, days and nights will eventually pay out.
The “young rich life” is memories, often great ones, but not more. Enjoying it at “more mature” age will be so much sweeter. Because more valued since we remember all it took to achieve it. Also all fails.
Money for the young is generally wasted on nonsense. Mature spenders buy luxury watches.
There is no age to enjoy,N you are just as young as 40 so just rock and roll 😀
that's great ... i'm 46 and have 7,000 steem ... i guess your ratio is a bit better 😎 😁 😆
At 50, the ratios will close a fair bit perhaps :)
haha, game on (-: peace
Now the true life will begin... Congratulations!

I have heard in some cultures, coming of maturity is 42 which means I can still play for 2 more years. Life is looking pretty good at the moment, no matter how busy it is.
Most importantly, I wish you and your family good health in the long run. When you have that, everything else is kind of secondary.
Thanks and I agree. At the moment we are looking 'long run' on that and doing what we can now to support it. I am hoping that at the very least, our daughter benefits from the work now.
Great milestone 40SP - congrats on all that hard work and a birthday marked with pump in Steem price - hopefully that price holds and builds more. Have a great day.

Thanks. Yep I either want the price to keep climbing hard or, crash into the floor so I can buy some more. Either way, I am happy :) nice to see it so high though and for those who have been buying the last 3-4 months, they should be very happy.
He he - yeah I hope the price holds out above 0.5 bucking the trend and showing the market Steem is different!

Ha! Just like you to have such a big milestone linked with steem :P Happy birthday <3 I really hope you've had a great day and more importantly that there are many years ahead of you which are also pretty great! :D
I'm glad to have met you and to have read so many interesting things. Interestingly enough, I got to take some shots with a professional real camera earlier today and I kept thinking "just like Taraz, man" :)))
Happy birthday!!!
I am glad to have met you too. It is funny how well I feel I know some people here :*
:D How'd the pictures turn out?
Same <3
The pictures were pretty good. I was taking pictures of her, of my friend and I got some I really liked :) Mind you, I did feel a bit of a rookie - I didn't know how to zoom in or even how to hold the camera properly at first...:D
Damn! 20 years young plus 20 years of experience? Impressive!
Must say my first impulse when seeing the post was "damnit, I want to Power Up my current liquids!!!!" :P
Anyways, lots of exciting things to come and it¨'s great to be sharing the road with you:) Here's to the next 40!
I dare you. :D
Lots of things to come and @howo and yourself are going to be a key part of it I think. Not long now... Just have to make it through the FUD.
Thanks for those kimd words! I lile to think so too, and believe what we are about to roll oit with both @steempress and the @steemba will be huge.
Hahahæ, it's really tempting! But when the market is going crazy like now there's an advantage to having some liquid assets too.
Happy birthday! I would say turning 40 and still have so much energy to get on the new tide is really something. I myself also had learned a lot from Steem and imagined on how it can benefit startup especially those which needs a lot of engagement. With the given infrastructure, the engagement can be monetized as well which gives the users more value. Yet, I am still way behind to really adopt and optimize the infrastructure. Looking good and lots to learn from you too!

Thank you. In time I think you will find that what you hold is going to have more potential than you might think at the moment. With the coming opportunities and a few million more users, you'll be fine.
That’s very reassuring @tarazkp. Lucky to have follow a bunch of positive users around this time (plus it’s looking good now with the Steem pumping hard daily!). More opportunities to come and ya, it will be just fine as long as we keep the momentum.

I'm turning 40 myself in a few months, not nearly close to 40k in steem but that's on me. I wish I had more to show in my life for making it this far in life. besides the wasted years drinking that is.
All I can do is look forward, not behind, and think full steem ahead as I write and submit and avoid the negatives in my life. I hope your 40th is great. Have a good day and happy writings
I feel much the same which I think is the reason I have pushed so hard on Steem as it is an opportunity to makeup for the past, a risky opportunity for sure.
congratulation
you have labored hard over the past years to get where you are at.
My wife says the same thing. but I respond with @tarazkp said this, @tarazkp said that. I gave her your picture and only your general location so you can get a head start. cause thats the kinda guy I am. sorry but I will not be around to help ya out.
Again a sincere Congratulation.
Lol, I wonder how many hit lists I am currently on. Normally it should be the husbands coming after me though I think...
Thank you and regardless of the future, I am glad that we have had a chance to connect on Steem.
So am I 👍
and if we are lucky maybe one day at a Steamfest
Congrats!

Thank you very much :)
Happy Birthday and Heartiest Congratulations for your achievement. Its commendable and for sure its come with a lot of commitment and dedication. Best wishes for the journey ahead.
Thank you and while it has taken some work, it is has also been a lot of fun and filled with a lot of interesting stuff along the way.
Happy birthday Taraz.
True what you're saying about reaching dolphin-hood from earnings alone. I've earned around 3800 of my steem holdings through content, and although it would be considerably more if I'd started in 2016, it Is still reasonable going.
But I have just one question:
My curious writers mind can't help me asking what was going down in those years of early adulthood? I also have a dark period in my early 20'S. I completely understand if you don't want to go into it, I'm just curious and life stories always interest me.
Steem.... well it is certainly coming to some type of critical development point. I'm interested to see where it does end up going 🙂
When I was 16 I got sick with ulcerative colitis but was misdiagnosed for a year where it became chronic. It was so bad I had to have a blood transfusion at 18 years of age. One of the medications I was on gave my pancreatitis 6 times in a year and was at such a high dose it was eating away my hip bones and almost killed me - the damage done still has major effects on me in various ways. It is also why I have the infusion treatment (currently monthly) at the hospital.
I will never be healthy but, I have made it this far and still managed to live somewhat of a life and travel the world. It has rarely been easy or comfortable though.
That is shit m8 to have to deal with those gastrointestinal issues at such an early age. I have had to deal with severe bowl issues, but they only started 6 years ago well into my 30'S. I'm always thankful for the time when I was healthy, and being sick now just reminds me to never take it for granted again if I get back to how I was.
I remember you telling me a little about these issues at steemfest, but I didn't know they'd gone on so long.
Anyway, cheers for answering my question m8 :)

At one point, I was weighing in at 47 kilos (I was 80+ at SF) and it really wasn't a pretty look. One thing I did manage to do all the way through though was work :D
I'm the opposite m8. I'm 17 stone but have the same build as when I was 15 stone everywhere else but my belly... which is distended like a pregnant cow. 7 years of trying different medications, and no relief. It's ok until I bend at the waist, and then puking happens, or I ride a bike and then belching happens... and puking again.
At the moment my life is making enough money online to not have to do anything physical.
Yeah, keep on working to the best of your abilities... otherwise you're just giving up.
Chronic illness is a horrible cross to bear, but as long as u do the best you can make lemonade from lemons... and all the tired metaphors that mock every day that shity physicality makes a devil's advocate of it all, is born out for days that don't suck.
Welcome to the 40+ club! And congrats for the 40k+ STEEM. You deserve them!

Couldn't give you any insight, I'm barely a member of the club for a few months myself. :)

Bones haven't crumbled to dust yet? :D
Nah, people keep saying you'll see after 40. But so far so good. ;)

Happy birthday, old man :P
I was at a musical comedy show last night, and the performer was lamenting the censorship of social media, and how we have to all take a shared accountability for the atrocious acts of organisations that enable such behavior.
When such people, and their audiences come to Steem, that'll see us all age about 40 years in a day.
Congratulations on both your milestones.
Posted using Partiko Android
When they arrive we will be happy but, there are going to be downsides to mainstream. I like the way it is here now but, there will be a great deal of evolution to come.
If Steem is an asset that earns by holding (thereby deriving its value by holding), imagine what that will do to the price of liquid Steem as a transactional currency. Everyone is going to want more and no one is going to want to sell it cheap.
In reality, it is one of the fastest tokens out there and people will want to use it as a currency if they can part with it.
Oh, and congrats, man!
This is what I think is going to happen and with the RC pools and delegations and things like delegating SM cards in other apps, it is going to put a lot of pressure on sellers to hold instead.
It sounds like a whole lot of winning.

Congratz on both milestones @tarazkp! I do hope that it doesn't take you to become 50 years old to get to 50000 SP though :D Cheers and drink a good glass of red wine today.
I am hoping I can close in on 50 this year but if price keeps climbing it is unlikely. I will try though :D
I had a really good glass last night with my really good steak :)
Congratulations!
Awesome achievement.
Stephen
Cheers Stephen and I am glad to see how active you are on the platform. Thanks.
Congratz!!!
Cheers!
I always say here It isn't easy but it's worth it.
Happy birthday and congrats on your SP and how you earned it! People like you motivate us to be involved in Steem more and help grow this blockchain and the community.
Thank you and enjoy! :D
Thanks mate. It is definitely worth it and worth it in more ways than just the SP or future value potential. It is going to be very interesting to see what kinds of usecases are going to popup over the next couple years.
Congrat!!!
Cheers.
Happy birthday!

Cheers mate.
Congratulations on your new age, Sir.
Thanks, I think at 40 I am a sir... :D
Happy birth day YOUNG MaN be blessed
lol, age is just a number affected by perspective :D
Congratulations on both milestones.
I had a hard time turning 40. It seemed so old to me at the time. But 50 didn’t bother me at all. And 60 was a piece of cake.
Good luck with your next milestone. You’re not all that far from being an orca.
Posted using Partiko iOS
40 seems like that turning point and then by the time 50 and then 60 rolls round, the speed downhill is so fast that there is no time to worry about it ;D
I am hoping I can make it to orca at some point but, we'll see.
Happy birthday and congratulations.
Thank you.
Happy birthday ! And congrats on your 40k steem ! I hope to reach that point too in the near future. I too am very bullish on steem, with the price going down we've seen a lot of people leave the platform, but what we've also seen is a ton of development from people who care and who know that when the price is down is the best time to build.
And when the bulls will come back, steem will be there as a major crypto
Thanks Howo, and while many have left, those who are here are a very strong foundation now and are here for more than price. When the bulls come, it will flood and there will be a whole new range of applications for users to engage with.
Congratulations! I am working back to that level. We sold everything on the last bull run but are replenishing our Steem now.
Good to hear. If you sold on the bull it shouldn't take too long :)
40 years and 40k STEEM, not bad!! I know the feeling of talking about the future and hearing people saying "you said that last year too", the bull market will, sooner or later, come back and when it does, us early adopters of STEEM and other blockchains will be the ones saying " Well, I told you last year, why didn't u pay attention to me ", it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of time, decentralization is the next step to humanity's evolution! First, we decentralized the power of kings into governments, now we are decentralizing the power of companies and governments, giving that power to everyone, spreading that power between the whole of humanity!
Let's hope that by 50 you will have much more than 50k :)
This is the way it is going to go and I think there are going to be some very annoyed people. But then, would they have stuck around through the rough times anyway?
I agree with "religion" in between kings and governments and, banks after government. We are heading the right direction with decentralizing banks into individuals.
Making it to 50 is the first goal :D
40 years, 40k. The synchronicity is too real :D
Happy birthday, Taraz!
I had to wait a few hours to claim rewards ;)
I do the same to hit the even number of a major milestone :P
Congratulations and happy birthday, dood.
happy 40th tarazkp.
Thank you mate.
Congrats to both events. You are a role model here of a hard working good Steemian.

Well, you certainly made a good investment buying at $0.20... :-)
I was unable to get much recently, just had to work for it. I was hoping on the lows to last until April because it will be from now on that I would have been able to buy a little more.
