@ned's Vision And Why STEEM Will Continue To Lead Other Blockchains

in #steem7 years ago (edited)

I know at times I seem like a STEEM cheerleader. Certainly, this could get irritating at times. However, I want everyone to know this viewpoint is a result of delving into the information available. In other words, it is a well thought out conclusion.

Through my writing, I hope I can educate some and convey what is really taking place. It is easy to get caught up in negativity especially as price action is red for weeks on end. Since the middle of December, the price of STEEM has gone flat to down. Nevertheless, the activity on the blockhchain is upwards.

The Leading Blockchain

Steem is by the leading blockchain. People often look at the number of transactions done here on a daily basis as one of the main reasons for this conclusion. Another aspect to this is the fact that it is also technologically superior to many of the other blockchains. Both of these are true.

Nevertheless, one of the biggest advantages that Steem has is that there are real world applications.

At present, there are close to 3/4 of a million users on this network. We see close to 70K on here each day. These people are posting, commenting, and upvoting content hundreds of thousands of times in a 24 hours period.

Steem is not some far-fetched idea. It is operational with more being added each day. Many of the other blockchains, especially those ranked in the top 20 by market cap, cannot make this claim. People are speculating on the tokens in hopes that the developers accomplish what they set out to do.

On this network, we are past that. Applications are up and running. These real world uses inserted Steem at the head of the class.

The Larger Vision

When it comes to setting a goal, there are a couple questions that come to mind. The first is how big is the goal and the second, how attainable is it?

@ned set out a very simple vision for Steem: To Tokenize The Internet

That is why this blockchain aims to accomplish. To me, I would say that qualifies as a pretty big goal. But is it achievable?

There is one advantage this project has over many others. The Internet is already digitized. There is little change from what is already in operation in this regard.

This is much different than, say, digitizing the art world where tokens are created based upon the value of a painting enabling many to enjoy partial ownership of that asset. While this is a viable route for many physical assets in the future, it is a radical change from what people are present use to.

Change Where People Go

People are already accustomed to going to websites for different things. We log onto social media sites to post, comment, and upvote content. This has been on the Internet for years and billions are doing this each day.

It is said it is much easier to change where people do something as opposed to trying to change what they do.

This is the position Steem is in. Since the Internet is already digitized, we are not creating something that is unfamiliar to people. They also do not have to change how they go about things. The only difference is the name of the website they log into each day. Those who once used Facebook or Reddt now enter Steemit.com (or one of the other apps) to do the same thing. It is the where not the what.

Build It And They Will Come

Steem is a decentalized blockchain and some are just getting the insight into how powerful a concept that is. I stated that blockchain is 100 times more powerful, disruptive, and society changing than the Internet was. The reason for this is decentralization.

On Steem, there is a platform that is operational, advanced, and, basically, "state of the art". The development team keeps adding to it in an effort to improve some of the flaws (Hard Fork 20). This provides creators with the foundation to put up what they want AND what is needed.

We have a handful of applications on this blockchain at present. This will only grow in the future. Over the next few years you are going to see a multitude of web applications created on here. Basically, if there is something you can think up, there is a developer out there who, if he or she is not already doing it, can create it.

Because of the content/reward system built into the blockchain, it is possible that you eventually see everything that is on the Internet on this network in some form. Steem was designed to enable websites to ingrate right into it and utilize all that is on the blockchain. Think of all the different types of sites out there where content is created and users interact. All of this can be tokenized.

What better place to do that than Steem?

These are some of the reasons for my excitement with this blockchain. Being open source, anyone with the ability can come on here and add whatever he or she desires. Throughout the course of this year, I believe you will see many applications emerge which are modeled after other things on the 'Net.

Steem-azon anyone?

Steem will find its way most modern websites and popular services because it works, it has a large user-base and it monetizes content. We will see so many new platforms and use-cases this year alone we will barely be able to keep track.

Steem deserves to be cheered!

that is simply not true.

STEEM is already ranked number one in the new Weiss Rating. It is the only coin ranked B+, while Cardano is B, ETH and EOS dropped to B-. STEEM's only negative point is chaotic governance by whales and skewed distribution. However, as time passes both governance and distribution will get better. Source

Why do you give Weiss any right to influence one's opinion ?

I know at times I seem like a STEEM cheerleader. Certainly, this could get irritating at times

Far from it @taskmaster4450, it is only those who do not understand where you (we) are coming from and where you (we) are headed. Your re-iterating this fact all the time is a source of courage to many and the reason we keep coming back for more. Thank you for your many encouraging posts.

What is so special about Steem is that every users owns a part of the network, and we vote for 30 witnesses to run the site. These can change, and have no official responsibility besides running the servers and voting on changes to the blockchain.

Anyway, this means that the community is responsible for keeping everyone else up-to-date, since there is no central person that is responsible.

Where else do we see a community controlling the platform as big as steemit ?

OMG ! What are you talking about ?

A bit more than a cheerleader, I see you as a
Crypto futurist, digital economist, pondering the multi opportunities you see now and what they will be,
based on some very solid evidence, that this platform is a burgeoning powerhouse...I have no doubt.

Hey if your not a cheerleader of steem and steemit then you shouldn't be here lol

It is very refreshing to see someone so committed to the success of their platform it shows true entrepreneurial spirit and I think steemit provides that to many people who have that same passion within them.

I know at times I seem like a STEEM cheerleader. Certainly, this could get irritating at times

It's not a problem, you can be a steem cheerleader all you want, it will never irritate someone like me because I am a big fan of steem and a believer in the potential steem wields.

Another aspect to this is the fact that it is also technologically superior to many of the other blockchains

There's absolutely no doubt in this. The steem blockchain is second to none and has absolutely no competition whatsoever . I have always hated crypto but steem has made its way into my life and has brought me fully into the world of crypto.

It is said it is much easier to change where people do something as opposed to trying to change what they do.

A perfect statement , would you believe if I tell you I have forgotten my Facebook password ? Well am sure you would take it with a pinch of salt but it's true. Can't remember the last time I visited Facebook. If I could do what I do on Facebook here for a better value, then why should I go back? Steemit has come to revolutionize the internet and very soon ,other platforms would take a que from steemit. Quite me anywhere .

We have a handful of applications on this blockchain at present.

Yea sure we have a lot of them and like you rightly said ,it will grow in future. If coz this is a decentralised system so anyone if free to do what comes to mind, as long as it's for the good of the system.

Hi @taskmaster4450
it's just a great article.
Steemit is the future of social networks. When I came here, he is my perverted perception. I began to look at things and nache, especially what concerns the Internet and social networks.
Today I have determined my course here. I support your ideas as necessary to raise your voice.
In fact, many people just do not know about us. For example, I previously spent part of my time in social networks such as facebook. But now I forgot about it. I see that this is a useless occupation.
People dependent on social networks are slaves to circumstances. Their opinion there is not worth anything. Their husky is worthless. They make big money.
But I believe the day will come when most will understand this and get rid of this dependence by going to projects like Steemit.
Thank you

As we continue to witness the dip in STEEM's market price, honestly I feel that it's a good thing because this helps to weed out users who are not serious in our blockchain technology. Those who decide to give up on the STEEM Blockchain due to the dip are most likely those that have never planned/already working on initiatives that contribute to the blockchain, so leaving our platform sure helps to maintain if not improve the standards of content here.

It'll be great when we see the Amazon of STEEM and the other equivalents emerge. I would love it if there was a way I could buy groceries for STEEM right now. If I could I wouldn't have to worry about anything else.

Hopefully in the coming year there will be more businesses that rise to replace the essential purchasing requirements we need. Although I can imagine this will require some National acceptance which the likes of Australia have shown given Brisbane Airport's recent changes.

You have left no stone upturned to educate us with your sound and up to date knowledge about blockchain technology. Blockchain technology is definitely changing lives of millions of people with each day adding more to it.

Steemit is at the top when we see in the perspective of block-chain technology. It is really growing at an enormous speed. People a flocking here with awesome speed. The developers are putting their hearts and souls to make it more better with each passing day.

Steemit has many advantages over other social media forums. It's ad free environment is very pleasing. Here we can grow together.
Thank you so much for this informative blog.

Haha, you're the ultimate steem cheerleader. BUt it's great, steem needs a few, and everyday we get new users that need to know about the potential here. We also have been having FUD the last month, so we need motivation and positive thinking!

I know I'm here because I'm a believer, adn while you might go over some stuff about steem occasionally, I usually find new insights from your posts. Sometimes important posts from the past get lost in the countless new ones, so it's good to keep putting out content that supports steemit and tells newcomers the ins and outs

It's not annoying at all, I've said it before, but there is a lot of negativity here and your constant enthusiasm and positivity about the future in general but specifically of the platform we love is exciting and uplifting.

One thing that I can't quite get straight in my head is the transparency of the Steem Blockchain. I love that we can see everyone's wallets and their transaction history, I think transparency is very important.... but how would this work for a business? Surely no business wants to put its data in a place where anyone can see that data. I was trying to think up commercial applications for Steem with my partner last night, and kept drawing blanks with the data/privacy situation. Am I missing something?

How is this any different than a publicly traded company.? They have to report their numbers and have them audited.

What is the difference if people know now much you sell? Unlike a public company, they won't know your profit which isnt registered on here.

We are conditioned that money and what we earn is so secretive. However, we are seeing that change. People know what each of us has in the wallet so there is no hiding your worth (at least in terms of SP).

As the Age of Abundance enters, I think people's focus upon money in the same manner will change. It will be like so what if you have $3M, so does everyone. We will be less enamored with how much one earns or makes because it is no longer scarce.

Do you look at a person and think about how much oxygen they breathe in each day? It is a non issue because it is abundant.

Or do you remember when people were enamored about the record (or CD) collection one amassed? Now, who cares, I get 40 million songs on Pandora. Music is abundant.

Hi TM,

Sorry, I didn't explain myself clearly. .. I was talking about a company using the Steem Blockchain for its processing and day to day operations... isn't that what Ned's vision is about?

If a mechanic wanted to use Steem to process repair orders, he wouldn't need to purchase any software... but he'd probably have to put the details of the order; customer name, car registration, customer address on the Blockchain... this is the piece I'm trying to get clear in my head.

Ah ok....now I see what you are saying.

Two things come to mind on that.

The first is the supply chain industry is working on that. They are embracing blockchain but suppliers do not want others to know what they are doing...hence they are working on ways to keep certain info private.

Another thing is to only put part of the data on the blockchain and the rest in a private database. Like Steemit, the text goes on the blockchain but pictures are uploaded to an AWS (I believe) server. You could do the same thing with data.

Aha! Okay, so that's the bit I need to start learning about... integrated databases... I'm trying to get it clear in my head so I can create a roadmap of things to learn so I can place myself in a useful spot to help develop and implement Ned's vision.

Thank you very much.

P.S) You'll be pleased to know my VP is at 91%. I should hit 100% today... which will be the first time since my very first day. From tomorrow I'm implementing a voting plan that should have my VP replenish each night to 100 while I'm sleeping.

What I like about Steemit is the sense of belonging of every member on the community.

Beyond tokenizing the internet, everyone seems committed to other Steemians here, everyone looks out for the other.

This is something about other platforms cannot lay claim to.

So it's not just about the coin and Vale of Steem or SBD but among the "I belong here", "This is our treasure" feeling.

And to think it's still early days here? Wow

I liked the Field of dreams reference!

Yes indeed Steem is but the foundation of a lot of applications that can be used.
We have a lot of the existing platforms and because it's open source we will have more innovations in the future.

Once the kinks has been worked out on a lot of the beta tests applications like dlive I know a lot would make the switch.

I think steem is way underpriced. As Ned said, Steem should be a cmc top 20 coin by virtue of usability and adoption alone. That's not even talking about being the pioneer and most successful coin to solve the issue within content industry (written, video, audio, visual and others).

The rewards structure of the Steem Blockchain means there's only >20million steem will be issued this year, and even less the years afterwards.

What would happen when there's as much users as the scheduled rewards?

User adoption is not slowing down .

Only good things will happen to steem.

Agreed with much of what you say - the important part is to see the big picture for Steem. As I understand it, Steemit is just one showcase project for what's possible with Steem. We're already starting to see ideas for other projects that are made possible with Steem.

The one topic that I'm still wrapping my head around is the difference between "private blockchains" and "public blockchains." for example, whatever i post, comment or upvote on Steemit is "public." So I think of Steem as a public blockchain.

But as some comments here have pointed out, corporations will want private blockchains. For example, on U.S. television these days, IBM is already advertising "blockchain solutions" (the same way they advertised cloud solutions or AI solutions) - presumably, they are building private blockchains for specific business clients to enable whatever they want to do (logistics is big, I hear). So... how does Steem/Steemit fit into that bigger picture?

Steem is by the leading blockchain.

Looks like you’re missing a word. by far?

I know at times I seem like a STEEM cheerleader. Certainly, this could get irritating at times.

Probably to them who have been here for some time and have gained insights into how the system works. But to the newbies, to those who have tried and never understood the potential of this platform, your blog posts are a great source of learning.

I remember that after joining on October 23, I posted random shit and imagined myself making $1000 within a month and because it was a ridiculous idea to even think of, I forgot about Steemit within 2 weeks.

Had I come across factual blogs like yours (and there's no dearth of factual articles on Steemit) I would not have let my account stay in limbo for two weeks.

Your posts could be a great source of knowledge and information for newbies who are signing up here every month.

Steem On and Keep Writing Sir :)

I think many users would appreciate it when you let them know you are using a ref link.

Ah okay. I see what you are saying.....

Good point

You continue to inform us and keep us rallied at the same time. It is quite a talent. Way to go. And Thank you for keeping us all going when the times of doubt creep out. : ) <3

I believe it is because of the Steemit wast community and blogging opportunity. Besides, a few communities allow such a freedom of expression.
Also, a content rewarding system is great. Whenever I describing this place to some of my real life friends it is like I am describing some science fiction novel. LOL

Task, sometimes I feel like a cheerleader also. But everything you say everyday, makes more since then Nancy Pelosi!

The apps. I've tried so far work well with this platform. I need one that works like eBay, so I can sell some stuff.

Go Task Go. You rock it everyday. 😎

I see ya as more of a hero for Steemit, not a cheerleader mate, so just fuck the haters my friend!

steem is going to be the biggest coin ever and no one can stop that nice post

Good post.Much obliged for sharing it

obviously.. you are correct dear..
i know always..
thats good on...
nice for all...
keep it on

Awesome post! Do you think there is any real need for any other cryptos besides steem and sbd?

Yes you are saying right..
I agree with you..
Keep it up..

Nice information bro <3 @taskmaster4450

This vision absolutely right..
Go ahead..
Thanks for sharing..

Good blog amazing ideas

@taskmaster4450

You are steem cheerleader :))) You should start wearing mini skirts :D
Even though I the kind of guy who has to see it to believe it, reading everyday about the possibilities lined up for this blockchain gives a lot of piece of mind.

wow!!! its a great news.i agree with you.i think it is important for us...
thanks a lot for sharing....

I stated that blockchain is 100 times more powerful, disruptive, and society changing than the Internet was. The reason for this is decentralization. I do agree with that statement.

This post already cheering my sluggish writing spirit. Thank you.

love to read it
thanks for sharing

Lol, your enthusiasm for the blockchain is remarkable, and can never get tiring. Steemazon sounds awesome! Can't wait!

This is a typical taskmaster point, full of fresh wisdom and insight. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent article. For more on steem fans like you. You have a huge impact on the system.

Отличная статья. По больше бы на steem таких фанатов как Вы. Вы оказываете огромное влияние на систему.

We all need cheerleaders in our life. Keep it up, you are doing a fantastic job of promoting steem and steemit. I agree the future is very bright.

I Think steem is the evolution to the future

#taskmaster4450 it's not at all irritating. It sometimes feel implausible but you know what... Even extreme science fiction becomes true given time... and here we are talking about something which is already on the roll. Your posts are a big factor behind my being on Steemit and with my puny SP still toiling hard to get a foothold. Please keep sharing such positive thinking, news and vision.

I see the whales are slowly but surely getting less and less of the total reward pool, hopefully it even outs so that we can all grow together.

Then we have more smart media tokens, more ways to burn steem and more users the price will go over $100

The day people realise that there's a place where you can post content without it being taken off, they are going to jump right in. We really need a platform where people can share their views and experiences freely without being Politically Correct.

The best part is that there is no competition for Steemit.

Maybe @ned should come out against this reward pool rape?
