Steem Basic Income is a social experiment to bring a basic income to as many Steemians as possible. Members join by sponsoring others into the program. Steem Basic Income is delivered through providing regular upvotes to member content.

Quite a few industrious Steemians run contests regularly. Here is a list of the ones we know about at the moment. All of these have been running for months so you can count on their posted schedule.
Be sure to check each account and look for the contest name as the links change each week. Also remember to read the full contest description as the rules and prize values sometimes change.
@freewritehouse
The folks over at @freewritehouse run three contests each week. All of them are designed to encourage community engagement and highlight other's work. Besides the prizes from the @freewritehouse account, they are always interested in hearing from anyone who will sponsor a contest and so they can offer even bigger prizes.
A Favorite Freewrite You Read contest runs every Tuesday for just 24 hours. You need to read some freewrites written (you can read this post to see what they are), and then comment on the contest posts about which ones you liked best and why. If they choose your comment you win shares of SBI.
Recommend your Favorite Freewrite Poem is a poetry version of the Favorite Freewrite contest and it runs every Friday. Make a comment about a freewrite poem you loved and you could win SBI shares. But be quick! When Friday is over, so is the contest - until the next week that is.
We-Write is a new challenge they’ve just started in the last few weeks. It runs every other Wednesday (next one is July 25th) with a prize of 4 SBI divided among winners.
Finish the Story Contest
This weekly contest is run by @f3nix. He recently launched the @bananafish account which now hosts the contest which runs every Wednesday. He posts the beginning of a story, and you finish it. Then you post your complete story for everyone to read. The winner, as chosen by the @bananafish god, wins SBI shares. The important thing to know about this contest is that it's an ongoing creativity workshop, so if you miss one deadline you can participate in the next.
Paying it Forward
In the spirit of helping new Steemians, this contest focuses on curating great content and is run by @thedarkhorse. It runs weekly on Mondays and asks that you find two "High Quality Original Content Blog Posts" to recommend for curation. Four judges decide which recommendations were the best and multiple winners get SBI shares. Follow @thedarkhorse to see the latest contest post and read it for full details.
ZapFic Writing Contest
Like super short stories? Try writing one in 232 characters or fewer for your chance to win SBI in this contest run by @felt.buzz. Every Wednesday he posts a new prompt to use for your very short story. Be sure to read the rules on this one as you'll need a Zappl account to qualify, but your stories will be automatically posted to Steem too.
Steemit World Map Challenge
Travel the world with your fellow Steemians in the #swmchallenge run by @runicar. You simply need to share a blog about a place you visited and share it on the map (read the post to see how). You’ll need pictures and good descriptions if you want to get noticed and win the SBI shares.
Caption Contest
Help celebrate digital art by creating creative captions for the week’s selected picture. Read all the rules carefully to be sure your entry qualifies for the SBI prizes.

Pirate Sunday
Come help tell the adventures of Captain K, a fictional character with a quite a history! To enter, read the current post and previous stories, then write your own version of what “piratey” things he gets up to next.
What is it?
Inspired by a game she played with the kids at her niece's birthday one year, this game is straightforward. She posts an image, and you guess what it is. The rules are simple enough, guess right and win an SBI share.

Every week you can visit the Thank You Economy contest and tag someone who has helped you. When you do, both of you could win SBI shares from the ever growing prize pool!
What does today mean to you?
Here’s the description from the contest creator:
This is a weekly contests to giveaway SBI shares to the winner(s) - the best "one out of six" from "qualified #ccc entries"
The theme of your post-entry is to -
- present a personal story,
- illustrated with at least one relevant photograph taken by you, the contestant,
- about the day or the days surrounding it.
It is set to be a weekly contest on Wednesdays, although, on some special occasions, it will be pre-announced due to a special day such as a holiday.
So, far, this contest has inspired some wonderful memories in these entries.

How to get on the recurring contest list
Do you run a regular contest that you’d like to see in our recurring contest section? We have some simple criteria you need to have to be included:
- SBI shares must be part of the prizes given out.
- Contest needs to be running 5 weeks or 10 contests on a consistent schedule, whichever comes first.
If you think your contest qualifies let us know in the comments or on our Discord channel and we’ll check it out.
Instead of trying to be thoroughly comprehensive (and then end up not publishing) like we have before, we have only included the most recent contests (skipping duplicates). If we missed yours, feel free to share it in the comments for our readers to find, and to stop by our Discord server to post it in the contests channel.

If you want to get involved, or to increase the share of basic income that you receive, enrollment is pretty straightforward:
any active Steemian, it does not have to be a current member.Just send 1 STEEM to @steembasicincome. Include the name of a Steemian to sponsor in the transaction memo (preceded by @). You and the person you sponsor will each receive 1 share in the program. You can sponsor

What’s up with the lack of outgoing upvotes? Steemworld.org shows your VP at 100% with no recent voting.
There was an issue with steemvoter. We have moved the main pool to Steemauto now, after discovering that steemvoter beta only allows for ten rules.
I was wondering if that means the current posts which weren't upvoted will be now that you've switched to steemauto, or if this weeks posts are going to be without upvotes? I only post once a week at the moment which was on Friday
The voting services we currently use don't catch up missed upvotes, and the effort to do so manually is too much on top of everything else that needs done.
We will be calculating each members value received versus value expected to now and catching up missed value retroactively when we deploy the automated system. It will be under the new rules, so there may be some misses where people have received a lot more value from the current upvoting bonuses than they have give, but we are trying to plan for the transition to be as fair as possible.
When Steem turns around, we're all gonna be rich. 💵💴💶💷

So I guess it was the transaction of 10 Steem 3 days ago. Wait another 4 days, check your incoming upvotes and the sheet then.^^
It's often been a little longer of late, but we are trying to get back to reasonable processing times.
We just rebalanced some members from pool 2 into pool 1. Sometimes when we move a bunch of members there are oddities in the numbers but they work out over time.

We used to cap each pool at 100 and now we don't anymore. Shifting members with 100+ up into the top pool resulted in above average SP levels in the next few pools that had been stuffed with members at 100. That still happens a little, but less of an issue now.
As each pool independently targets 2 SP per unit, having some of the pools above average does not actually take any value away from the pools that are not. We are a lot more mindful of keeping pools from being below average for more than a couple of days at a time.
It's all sort of academic, since the automated system is designed not to have these issues. There won't even by explicit pool assignments. Instead, all members will receive a specified daily rshares per unit of SBI and the best account to deliver each upvote will be identified dynamically when they post.

Hey @steembasicincome still loving your service! I did however not receive my upvote on my last post, is something wrong?
We experienced some downtime when steemvoter was not functioning. We have since fully transitioned pool 1 to steemauto.
Consistency on steemauto has been improving, and they have been making backend improvements, but there may still occasionally be missed votes due to issues with their service.
We will calculate whether members have missed value and catch up any shortcomings when we deploy our new system. Unfortunately we do not have a release date yet.
