🎁🎈 The New Front-End Reveal Of Yesterday Is Just The Beginning...More to Come During SteemFest 2? 🎈🎁

Hello Steemians,

I was "live" when the color scheme, logo and night mode was revealed yesterday. Some people where really excited and some didn't like the change of logo and color scheme...but unanimously, everybody enjoyed the night mode!

Whether or not you like the new branding, it's function was essential to make it clear that Steemit.com is NOT the same as the STEEM blockchain and cryptocturrency. This will make all marketers and promoters job easier.

So is that it? Was it "the big surprise" that Steemit Inc. had for us to celebrate SteemFest 2?

As we saying goes in marketing:

a78ae76da19c1a0f9e0e9b2f7e6229e70bd36cf7bc5b2f29b5f8900face50234.jpg

But why would they not release everything in one swoop?

It's just basic psychology. People won't be able to fully appreciate all the little changes if they are bunched together with hundreds of other little and big changes.

So what they do is drip drip drip 😁

To top it off, if you want to get people REAL excited, you push those new updates right in the middle of a live event.

What Other New Announcement Should We Expect During SteemFest?

This release was just the appetizer in my opinion. Let me put a caveat on this:

This is speculation on my part...even though it's an "informed speculation" it is still speculation.

Upcoming Update #1 : The Mobile App

The mobile app has been in the work for months and was scheduled to be released in 2017. I would not be surprised now since the new branding is out. This will come as a boon for sure.

Upcoming Update #2 : Hivemind Protocol aka Communities

The update we had a few days ago was just there to make the way to what's coming.

screenshot-steemit.com-2017-11-01-08-05-22-451.jpeg

You see that nice blank space on the right? Yeah...that's not a mistake. It's a placeholder for a complete new array of feature that will bring in the ability for people to have the equivalent of sub-reddits on steemit.com.

I have been longing for this update for so long and spied the github of the hivemind protocol in anticipation for this.

Upcoming Update #3 : SMT TestNet

This is very speculative but smart media tokens has made quite the impression in the world of media. When the whitepaper was released, people wanted it to be developed already.

The SMT TestNet would be a boon to all the devs that are already present at the event...they might even have access to it during the hackathon? Who knows!?

Upcoming Update #4 : What Else In Your Opinion?

This is where I leave it up to you to speculate on the upcoming updates coming up during SteemFest.

The comment section is yours and I'll make sure to update the best ideas.

I'm hoping to hear something - anything - about the previously proposed HF 20 "velocity" changes (https://steemit.com/steemit/@steemitblog/proposing-hardfork-0-20-0-velocity)

I would think they will need to reduce the cost and effort involved in account creation before or along with communities / SMTs but haven't really heard anything at all about this since the initial proposal 4 months ago.

Either way, looking forward to seeing what else comes out over the next few days. Thanks for keeping us in the loop!

That is very true. But I think they keep that discussion a little more between them and the witness until they've reached consensus...to then make the announcement. (we had contention last year for not following that protocol)

Interesting I didn't know about that - I'd be interested to know what the contention was last year if you're up for sharing.

they developed the hardfork before presenting it to the witnesses. The witnesses rejected it and the process went public for months. They've wasted all that energy. So now they decided to debate the details on the backend before presenting the schedule for the hardfork to the public.

That definitely sounds like an issue! Well I think the community/hivemind changes will require a HF right? If that's so then maybe some "velocity" changes will be included if they announce anything.

Hivemind, I believe, is off consensus. :-)

Yes, you're right, sorry...hard to keep all of this straight!

Thank you for your shamelessly advertising my blog by putting up a picture where erverybody can see, that you follow me and upvoted my latest post :D:D:D You are awesome. Of course I have to resteem this.

Those are some GREAT informed speculations! I hope all of it comes true πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

I was hoping the space to the right would be for Steemit site chat like Facebook had back in the day where the chat bar was in the lower left hand corner. I think in website chat is key for quick response to help people recruit and make decisions in growing communities.

Good point. Maybe they will get rid of tag navigation on the left to switch to communities and have chat on the right. That would be epic!

Yeah, that chat box would be great.

nice post my friend, well i think they might also implement that who is online and who is offline feature into steemit because we can see a nice greenish line is drawn alongside our posts and there is alot of empty space available next to it, so we might see our followers in that space.

That's a good guess...or maybe which community this user is a part of?

yes i agree with your point.

wow, just WOW! We will go mainstream soon!

Keep showing people improvements, plans, upgrades and progress... that is what we've been thirsting for lately. Hopefully Steemfest 2 is the kick-off to new and better reporting, weekly and monthly updates... decentralization is great but let's not be collectively in our own somewhat obscure corners. Peace

@cryptoctopus
Six days ago. I wrote my post. November 1 will also be steemite te innovations. Nobody took it. :(
November 1st Be come World Steem Day. I offer this.

best idea.
i like....

It really was very unexpected, but the surprise turned out :) I hope the development team will not stop and there will be new chips. The only thing I still do not understand - whether there will be old familiar sign Steemit ? Can we use it in the future?

The old one is free to use and remains the logo of the steem blockchain.

@crptoctopus, Thanks for the information.

I really excited new color scheme, logo and night mode in steemfest.
But I can agree with your some opinions. steemit developing team will do next task and options cleverly. We`ll hopefully waiting. Some options giving surprise for us. But was really unexpected. As my mind new one cool minded and work easily more than old one. Its psychological theory

Amazing changes. I really enjoy the night-mode. It was all a big surprise, I loved it!

I am thinking of a local community already!

Steemfest
Thank's for sharing.
@followed and upvoted

I liked the logo, especially the color, soothing, but I have not tried the night mode yet.

Thanks for the information..@crptoctopus

I looking for that day when my Steemit blog will monetize with different advertisement and I will pay additional money for number of visitor in my blog.
Steemit is great. I waiting for great update so that value Steem go higher with very short time.

verry important post

Everyone wants change, new logo and look of steemit is really appreciating. What about that advertisement idea you discussed earliar ? I think that will attract more number of investers. Thanks

But it's not that compelling and if you see through users have more negative feedback than positive.
I'm also not liking this too common-type logo and greenish color.

we choose to see what we want to see.

Yes I believe so
but I also belive

The positive/negative Signs are all around us if only we would choose to notice them.
πŸ˜€

That's pretty cool to know thanks for the tips by the way :)

I would like to see these features.

  • Provide voting slider for all accounts irrespective of SP.
  • Show account name or tag name as soon we type '@' and '#'. This will avoid spelling mistakes and very helpful when we transfer. Remember 'randomwhale' is not 'randowhale' :)

Every of your post has been worth reading, thanks for every piece u post, cause they all make sense

For me I don't think the Sub Reddit type of feature would be a good feature to be added. Other than that I would be happy to see who is online and who is not.

Why? Im developing an app and it make it very impractical if it doesnt get implemented. Zappl has different type of content than steepshot for example and it makes no sense for them to all be in the same feed competing with each other. How much could reddit scale its userbase if there was only 1 subreddit?

That's true, for that you have the tags out here. Now let's say you will add the subreddit type community and then the tag will have no meaning as such. For example if you create a subreddit called A which will have all the tags in it, which in any way does the same thing what it is doing now. People will also search for the subreddit which has the highest number of people in it or which has the highest payout.

Very different. Communities have permissions, owners and moderators. Also, communities have the ability to be monetized by people who make them successful.

Also, imagine if a link sharing site (like hackernews where there is only title and outbound links content) ends up on the trending page of steemit...it would get flagged out of existence. This is why different types of content need to have their own community...not only tags.

But that defeats the purpose of Steemit as well. Think about a communities where you share outbound link and getting upvoted, people who have power will never write contents then will start sharing links to get upvote. The text like in subreddit can also be done out here using the discussion tag, where one tag is restricted to discussion. But let's say, we make community and will not monetize it by upvote and keep it same like reddit then I guess people will not get more involved.

There will be thousands of website using the steem blockchain. All different type of content will be created that won't be compatible with the blog style of Steemit.com. But all that content will show up regardless on the steemit.com website. If they all compete in only 1 bucket, there will be a war between content types. Which will kill development.

If you don't enable communities, all those new apps and front-end (as well as SMTs) are dead in the water.

Ohkk that makes sense, so is the community is based on the SMT level or it is from the website level. Like Busy, ChainBB, Utopian Communities, if it is from the website level then it makes sense because then the website owners and moderators will give permission on what to get posted and what not.

@cryptoctopus,
A lot of features should be added to the right side of the panel!
#1. Steem Chat
#2. Advertising space 125 x125 if possible (I don't know whether this is possible or not)
#3. Big live updates like new SMT projects or something like that
#4. Trending SMT projects and exchanges
#5. Etc

Why #5 set as Etc? Because this is STEEM Block Chain! This is decentralized. This is the most trended Block Chain ever! So, anything could be there and the future of this Block Chain definitely amazing!

Great article as always and you shared four great updates about upcoming projects! Really appreciate your effort!

Cheers~

white space says more updates will be here. excellent article about steemit @cryptoctopus

@resteemia

I have been longing for this update for so long and spied the github of the hivemind protocol in anticipation for this.

You are a steemit stalker...

great post I like this...really nice & mind touch blog😍😍

The chat feature within the steemit page would definitely be a valueable add on. The app has to be close to production. That will definitely bring in a whole new wave of people. I think the app is the big reason for the logo and new branding. creating an app means its sort of back to the centralized market so Steemit needed a way to actually differentiate themselves from the coin. Either way, love seeing some new thing roll out

Did anyone at the grand opening mention the fact that this is the green color of tsu - a platform that was supposed to encourage and reward content creators but failed?

tsu had 3M users when they brought in groups/comminuties/hives - by whatever name - it takes the active people out of the regular mix and puts them only in their little clique.

When tsu brought groups in - the site activity dies in less than two weeks. If you were not in a particular group - you got no visibility. If you were in a group - only those people saw you and you could only post on topic. Complete death-knell occurred.

I don't know reddit, but I think they have millions of users. You cannot segment the 5000 active people on steemit and expect to survive. When the groups come in, I expect the place will fail. I hope I'm wrong, but I see no route to success with the few people who are here and trying.

Just can't wati to see what's coming next lots of surprised ahead i guess :)

What I love with that new logo is that the color matches perfectly with my cover photo...it's the same color!!!
After some weeks of bad experience for the users(Downtime) it's great to see such developments and these days it seems like all is running perfectly!
For sure there will be much more awesome news coming up for us steemians!

You're so right about all of this. The presentation of HF 20 maybe? It surely isn't as flashy as the rest would be but that is still very much a possibility.

Congratulations @cryptoctopus, this post is the forth most rewarded post (based on pending payouts) in the last 12 hours written by a Superhero or Legend account holder (accounts hold greater than 100 Mega Vests). The total number of posts by Superhero and Legend account holders during this period was 32 and the total pending payments to posts in these categories was $1280.87. If you do not wish to receive these messages in future, please reply stop to this comment.

Thank you for this @cryptoctopus

This is really exciting. I am hopeful that some of the upcoming releases will really inspire the membership on here. It seems the complaining has outweighed the positive viewpoints.

It really excites me to read that the SMTs really caught the attention of media world. That could really be huge. A couple big sites sign onto it and we will see things explode.

I hope you are really enjoying yourself...it is good to get some positive news on here. Thanks a bunch.

Awesum Pics & Post!!

I'll follow you. and follow me.

I'll follow you. and follow me.

Very exciting! Since you asked a couple of personal wishes:

  1. On a user's opening blog page, I would love to see a tab for a profile page.

  2. I'd like to see a Twitter style addition to the platform for links & breaking news.
