RE: Say hello to the NettyVoter Bid Bot - 0.10 SBD minimum bid, 50% votes, 1.2 hour periods

in #steemit-dev8 years ago

This bot actually pays users. It isn't just some ridiculous, useless spam bot.

You could potentially send it 0.250SBD and a link and get a vote for $1.50 or more. All depends on how active the bids are.

The word "bot" shouldn't freak people out. They are not all bad, and this system relies on many of them.

Sort:

I don't mind bots. Just voting bots. I use them for publicity sure. Just the fear of another bot to be abused. Making it as easy as just spending 0.25 to earn $1 leads to lower quality content. We should be trying to improve visibility for real accounts. Not letting them get lost in all the spam. I get this is a way for you to make $$ I just hope you don't let it be abused like others.

EDIT: Paying others is what creates spam btw

EDIT EDIT EDIT: lol I arrived here accidentally btw. Not my intention to slander you or anything close. I can see how the "EDIT EDIT" may appear as so. I just meant you cant go bringing up another bots problems and then release yours a week later. It would seem like you were doing it for slanderous reasons to promote your own. EDIT EDIT: Also kind of explains why you didn't care about the @promoted bot that's causing all the spam.

Well, no I dont have a problem with @promoted. I don't have a problem with people earning money on subpar content either. If the bot gets abused, it will be less of a benefit to everyone and I can tweak the settings if that happens.

Everyone is clearly on this platform with money in mind. Like you said, I can potentially make some money from running the bot, just like minnows can potentially make money from sending it a bid. They provide me with SBD and liquid STEEM so I can support my development for the network.

You will never be able to agree with someone 100% on all of their actions, but I am very open and transparent about mine.

Bots run this world. You are essentially complaining about automation.

When I go to Amazon and add an item to my cart and I get a notification that it's price decreased by $0.10, that is a bot that did that for me. Not a human. Bots improve systems in ways humans cannot.

When they get abused, they need to learn how to now get abused. Programming and hacking are very cat and mouse. When a flaw is discovered, it gets fixed. It is absolutely and utterly impossible to seal every single point of attack from every single attacker in the world.

People like me putting things out there that we can learn from help us build better systems. Btw, not sure if you were aware, but I wrote a bot controller platform that controls many accounts for minnow support. It helps their entire team use accounts in ways that benefit SOOOOO many more people than with just one person.

I think bots are what will make STEEM succeed. They just need to be good bots.

Which reminds me, I was going to make a platform where users could see how a bot operates, VOTE on the bot as being good or bad, and when the bot gets enough good results, it will get extra votes to support its growth.

If it gets too many bad votes it will start receiving automatic flags.

I don't have an issue with bots. Only an issue with the bots that create spam. Don't need to reiterate that. You know what my exact issue is. I pointed out a flaw with a simple fix and you choose to just ignore it. It continued and took another Steemian with foresight to start flagging. Wasting his SP that could go elsewhere because people are too greedy to let the platform thrive.

Yes most people are here to make money and bots like @promoted which encourage spam should be destroyed or fixed. NOT IGNORED

We are not talking hypothetical's here. All those posts that make authors with actual content disappear into the background is not good for Steemit. That is a fact.

I brought this issue to you because like you said. You know bots.

I don't know why you think "I ignored it".

I actually just started posting a new series today about people spamming in memos. Perhaps you should check out the effort I put into automating that before thinking that I am just ignoring the problem.

The ENTIRE reason the blockchain works is due to its decentralized and censorship proof nature. You seem to think that it is my duty to supply flags to abusive users.

I would go to https://steemit.chat #steemitabuse #steemcleaners-linkdrop or some other dedicated channel for exactly that for the best results.

I have $45k in my wallet. I am not prepared to start a drama filled flagging war. If you want to convince a whale with $500k+ to help with that, I think you should.

I know bots because I am a programmer and I know how to code. I don't handle every little issue like this one you are bringing up. I take notes and when things get horrible I take action. I am just one person @gnimeets..

I know you are just one person. What you can do is limited. You could of easily done more than you did though. Just choose not too. I consider you ignoring it because you read the post and decided it was no big deal. I explained to you why it was a big deal and you never replied. You are part of the Dev community so you would of been able to understand the problem and understand what it takes to fix it. You want to be a witness and promote Steemit. Then don't ignore issues and wait for them to become bad. You could easily prevent it.

EDIT: I never asked you to flag anyone. I recommended the other steemian not waste his SP. I asked you to help fix the problem

Ok so advise me... what would you have liked to see me do?

The @promoted account literally just gives free votes to people that SPEND THEIR MONEY and use the promoted feature.

Why in the hell do you think this is spam? I find it rather nice ....

In my opinion you are basically saying "So you want to be an elected government official so when you see someone jay walking DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT ITS YOUR DUTY"

I think my time is better spent developing and programming instead of buying into all the network drama. Go join #steemitabuse channel. There is enough drama to go around for everyone.

I just dont give a fuck about it

The voting bots are great. It doesnt lower the quality, quite the opposite. If a bad blogger writes trash content and promotes it, it's still trash content. Sure he will make a little bit more money. But for those who write good content it's a great tool to get more traction and a lot more votes.

But it doe's lower the quality. It is not a trash blogger that is my concern. It is people who abuse those bots and it does happen. I have clearly pointed out how to you.(In the past)

EDIT: whoops just presumed it was netuso I was replying too.

check this out : https://steemit.com/steemit/@gnimeets/am-i-the-only-one-who-is-bothered-by-all-the-spam-on-steemit-no-one-cares-i-found-a-clear-spam-exploit-whats-up-with-that

And what about those with great content who use bots to reach more people? Is that wrong too, according to you? It doesnt really matter if someone with crap content uses bots to earn more. He won't get any more engagement because..well, his content still suck.

My issue was with spam. Please actually read the link I provided.
