Great post, but I've gotta say it's really disturbing how many posts of this nature I've been seeing here on steemit lately, when I believe many people are coming here not only for the opportunity to monetize their content, but to do so in an open and censorship-resistant way, otherwise why not just stick with facebook, youtube, etc. I think people should pretty much be able to post whatever they like and let the community sort it out and vote accordingly. If there's a certain type of gaming going on, worst case that can be addressed by the community via a fork. As for requirements, even for extremes such as porn, users can use a tag to identify it. Then, offer users a "content filter" for any material they PERSONALLY find objectionable, within REASON (of course, even that's still subjective). But sadly, at the rate we seem to be going here, it seems next people are going to be asking for trigger-warning tags as well.
I even wonder if people should potentially be penalized for malcious/inappropriate flagging, or at least a comment should be included as to what is objectionable. If others disagree with the reasoning, then the FLAG can be downvoted as well and possibly even penalize the flagger (ie. reduce their future "flag" power in some fashion to indicate "low quality" flagging, which could even identify high-quality flaggers in the community). This is already a HUGE problem on youtube, and the post brings up some interesting points/ideas on it: https://steemit.com/steemit/@johnsmith/how-to-solve-the-downvote-conundrum-with-one-simple-trick-upvoting-downvotes
Finally, the ability to create and subscribe to playlists or theme collections (like on youtube) may be a welcome feature too. For example, I may not be so interested in sports posts, but perhaps someone's other types of posts.
As a final point, I guess the real worry is that many people are also here because they are sick of the PC culture, and are trying to escape it, not be a part of recreating it. And I don't think steemit wants to become the culture recently described by Peter Thiel, “If you don’t conform, then you don’t count as diverse.”
Don't even suggest it! It'll be another thing they can complain about and beg for.
My understanding was that this was the entire point of creating this platform. Free expression and no censorship. But it depends on what people are calling "censorship" too. Flagging content can often serve the same purpose, especially if the post is "hidden." When this happens, most users will not bother looking at it, even if the flag was unwarranted.
Sometimes it feels as though some people here want this very thing. They try to equivocate free expression with conformity to a specific philosophy. It happens a lot in anarchism/conspiracy circles. If you're an anarchist, then you must also be a 9-11 Truther or anti-GMO, some will argue.
sad to think we may already need a new term for this, and I barely just got here! lol ...
steeminazi crybullies
