Hello Steemers,
Today i was looking at some new posts on steemit, and commented on a great video that was posted. I've seen this user before so i decided to check there blog before following. Their blog only had one video, it can't be I seen this user before. I went back to the original post and noticed the reputation score is 25, yes stolen content.
Steemit needs to start suspending or banning users after a few post of stolen content. Even better idea is to ban there ip address, or add another security measure before becoming a new user on steemit. Any ideas you have please post them and lets talk. I posted some of the stolen content below...
Like it....Upvote and follow
A big thank you to all my supporters
This kinda sets a strange prescient. Straight up stolen content and nothing else, like copying someone's entire article, sure, ban them. But what if a meme (that someone else created) is used or someone links to another's Youtube video to highlight a point they might be talking about, like many people on Facebook and the like do.
However, because the video that you've taken a screenshot of is a Steemit tutorial maybe it was a newer Steemit user that thought the information would be valuable to newer Steemit users because they found it on Youtube and were not aware of it being posted to the site before. Either way, its a Youtube video, the video is getting more views because of it, so it looks like a win-win.
I'm just being wary because everywhere I look people want more people to come to Steemit and get involved in cypto, but they'll get blind-sighted by stuff like this, since many of them are probably coming from places like Facebook, where just posting youtube videos they want their friends to watch is something that is allowed there.
The content views from Facebook still generate ad money, but the money goes to Facebook and not the poster. So why is it allowed there and not here? Why police something like simply posting a video, that the original poster will get views for anyway? Like I said Youtube pays ad revenue too, so win-win... Now if someone were to copy someone's entire article and re-post it a couple days later or something that like, yes, definitely, ban them. I just don't see the harm in a Youtube video. I suppose the Youtube video's creator should have the final say, if they really wanted to pursue it. Though they might lose subscribers that way.
Its a tough call to make with youtube videos, but if your making a point with someones video its should be ok. Just posting a video with no words, not ok. It would be nice if steemit could make one more step before becoming a new user, just to deter bad users. You made some good points.
To be on the safe side, always give credit when using someone elses work
I agree, giving credit is the best way to go.
I've been trying to take action to battle spam, stolen content/images and plagiarism, if you want to join me, check out The Daily Downvote.
It's important that people who are seious about the platform take action to help keep quality, original content a priority. The issue of stolen/spam content is only going to get worse as more people join. They need to incorrporate a button or form for plagiarized content.
Great work on "The daily Downvote". Yes we need to keep this site free from plagiarized content. Every person that post and upvotes has invest time and money into this site, and don't want to see it go to waste.
Perhaps the other steemit blogger simply cut and paste the articles or even videos from the original authors, without them knowing it ?
Or perhaps the "identity thieves" lack of original ideas to post up, rather than using other people's contents ?
He or she should get the permission from the original author in the event he or she would like to use the articles, photos or even videos.
OR perhaps these are hot and popular topics in the past ? Brought up again, to get more upvotes and gain some cents from these...
What say you ?
Most users with a very low rating is just copying and pasting. The hole idea of copying and pasting is bad and steemit didn't make this site for that. They are most likely popular posts in the past.
Banning ip address is the best way to go.... or suspend them and request a letter to be signed before lifting the suspension.
Looks pretty blatant. It doesn't take anything to post a credit for a video or photos. So it looks intentional.
Yes, it does look intentional. I wonder what @piedpiper would say about his content being stolen, he is the guy in the youtube video image above.
Pretty angry, I'd imagine. It's theft.
I agree 100%
Make sure that the rules are stated clearly for new users too :) Edit: They're not even 'rules' really. More like guidelines. Damn I respect it so much though. On a side note, just heard about that 'radiosteem' idea the other day and thought about what it could do for the music industry. Revolutionary shit.
If there was one more step before becoming a new user this could deter bad users. One example, steemit checks how old your facebook account is before accepting new users. This way if the account was created the same day they can deny the request. Better yet, Two Factor Authentication.
With a little thought it would be pretty easy to remove the spammers you are referring to.
But I do feel that user moderation is the most sensible way to go, after all why would you create an incentivised, decentralised social media platform and then pay moderators to remove content.
User incentivised moderation could be the answer if a good way of implementation could be found
Yes removing spammers and there post will make steemit better, and look better as well. Seeing flagged post that are dull in writing (picture above) is not a great look for steemit. You made a great point.
