It's not every day that you see Steemit featured on Bloomberg, but when you see it, it's featured in an optimistic tone.
Today, actually a couple of hours ago, Bloomberg ran a story about Steemit, including comments from users like @kadavy and a few statements from @ned itself.
The feature was part of a bigger story depicting the more and more obvious "disruption hole" that blockchain is carving in the "traditional web media", like Facebook or Twitter. Sorry, but it feels odd to name Facebook and Twitter "traditional". But it's also true.
The whole story can be read here and my personal takeaway from it is this one:
Tokens are a big reason why two-year-old Steemit already has about 100,000 content creators, according to Chief Executive Officer Ned Scott. It just broke into the top 1,000 of the web’s biggest sites, according to tracker Alexa.
Now, really looking forward to the days when Bloomberg will be excited about being mentioned on Steemit...

Wanna know when you're getting paid?
I know the feeling. That's why I created steem.supply, an easy to use and accurate tool for calculating your Steemit rewards | |
Exactly what I was going to quote and write but seems you beat me to it!
This is great news and I am on my way to read the article :)
That's hilarious! 😁
I was surprised at the 100,000 content curators figure. I thought there were a lot more of us than that. Who are all the others on the platform? Investors?
many, many accounts are not linked to a person, they are "cryptographic signatures" if you want, used for testing or as bots, etc...
Do they also get a share of the reward pool? Thinking about it I suppose they do if they are a bot because they are upvoting. And that's how they make their money. Having a bit of an 'ah ha' moment here.
There's still so much to learn. 😁
They have a share, but they do not use it or do not get rewards, because they produce nothing.
But don't the bots get curation rewards from upvoting?
Yes, but then they are no more inactive users. There are a lot of dead fishes - those that potentially could get a share if they do something.
To get curation reward, you need SP. Many voting bots have low SP and dont get any reward
Ah. I see. It's all very complicated isn't it? At least it seems that way to me. 😊
Not to mention dead fish (inactive users) or even spammers ..
Let's see what this article will get for steemit! Thanks for this post too @dragosroua!
My personal takeaway is
Nice one too :)
What do you mean they didn't respond? Or... at least FB I mean. They made their position regarding blockchains and cryptos crystal clear when they moved into the haters camp not so long ago when they decided to ban the ads.
It is an extract from the article from bloomberg he refers to. You are right off course.
Sure, I got that. But asking FB for a comment after they banned crypto ads, is like trying to make them admit they were wrong a month or so ago. Good luck with that! :)
Again totally right, this is why the whole statement was hilarious. Just looked at your blog and saw your post about posting or commenting, you got it right, following :-)
Thanks, I appreciate it!
This is such an amazing news!!! You go Steemit! Thanks, Dragos!
With regards to the "disruption hole", yesterday I found myself apologizing to the people on facebook for not putting out a livestream recently, I let them know Steemit is where I am investing my time.
Also thanks for the link to steem supply, this really helps as someone still finding my way around.
Since I just learned about steem supply, I put in @grumpycat
SO MANY LOLZ!
http://steem.supply/@grumpycat
You know what? That reminds me of what a wise man once said:@dragosroua
And thats definitly what is going on here, but maybe it will just be:
Nicely and epic thing they got covered in this is a big achievement :D
Hey @dragosroua I've been wanting to reach out to your for some time now. If you made it easier for people to vote for you as a witness on your site then more people would vote for you as a witness. Have a look at this guy's profile: https://steemit.com/upvote/@yehey/yehey-up-voting-40-to-minnows-and-authors-with-quality-content-report-9 he has a shortlink where you can login with steemconnect to vote for him as a witness:
I created a short URL to make it easier to vote. Please use this link to Vote - https://on.king.net/witness simply click and vote.
See if you can do something similiar. At the moment if you click on your button "voting for me for my witness" then it just redirects to: https://steemit.com/~witnesses .
Hope my suggestion makes sense?
Thanks for the suggestion, but for now I'll stick to steemit, as frustrating as their UI is now (and it is very frustrating). The reason is that there are way too many phishing attempts these days and people simple don't trust other sites where you have to enter your key. SteemConnect allows login only for posting key, as far as I know, and you need your active key in order to vote for a witness (although things may have changed and I may be wrong).
Later edit: I just looked at the URL and it seems rather interesting. Will test it and if it's secure, I'll implement it. Thanks for the suggestion, appreciated.
Cool your welcome. Btw your steem.supply site is really awesome and I really enjoy using it.
I'm not sure if you are familiar with letsencrypt, but you can use it to get a free SSL certificate. I use it on my own site: https://yoirtuts.com . I suggest you try it. You can reach out to me on discord if you wanna talk technical stuff, I'd be happy to help you setup letsencrypt. :)
Thanks for the suggestion, I'm familiar with letsencrypt and certificates :)
So I figured out how the steemconnect works from the short link that I posted.
You can get people to vote for you as a witness like this:
https://steemconnect.com/sign/account-witness-vote?witness=dragosroua&approve=1
See screenshot:
would be a natural fit for Bloomberg to have an SMT ;)
And I wonder who else will follow now , this is exciting news for everyone on this paltform . Steem is doing big things in 2018
The readers of Bloomberg now know that Steemit exists. More traffic and more users, this is just the beginning.
Just as expected, 2018 is the year Steemit will be mainstream.
Awesome :)
Sorry, but it feels odd to name Facebook and Twitter "traditional". But it's also true
So true. We are moving faster and faster, our view time is totally changing...
Well done
more and more people are stat using steemit this network is great and will be the social network of the future
If steemit goes mainstream would that be good for it or bad . . . What do you think ?
it depends on what you consider good and bad.
True there would be some good and bad points to it. I would hope more good than not would come from it.
Bloomberg is just the first of many publications that will be writing about Steem. In the coming months, once SMTs are launched, we will see dozens of articles as mainstream companies move to the Steem blockchain to better align with their users, and to incentivize increased interactions.
Just awesome!!! About time Steem gets the limelight it deserves. The most popular and widely used blockchain should be on the news much more often. Thanks for sharing.
Cool....
Trust me, give steemit 5 years ad bloomberg will be begging for a review
by @ned....
Whao, steemit on Bloomberg is a big achievement. Having such a powerful financial platform talk about steemit would give it a really big boost
We are celebrities now
That is good news, 2018 the year Steemit disrupted Facebook! That would be nice !
Yes that's it. Steemit community are moving step by step to future and this is first step. Later we will a lot of steemit news on the main media.
Sooner or later that day will come, a day will come when companies and politicians will start to send their shills to talk about their products and campaigns just like in Reddit.
Excellent marketing! Not so long ago we could only read or hear about bitcoin on top media channels, if any mention of crypto world was made. Steem is getting some deserved spotlight!
Steemit has come to soar and to survive. It will continue to create a big hole on mainstreem media. I've forgotten my facebook password ..gosh😂
very informative post...i like your every post......
Great Post and beautiful article.... good job and keep it up!
Very good post.
Thank you sir for your good post.
great news @dragosroua.
your post so.good.i.like.so.much..thanks for.sharing..
That is a great one, now the rest of the world will know of Steemit and how it favours it users
seriously it as been running on my mind. we hope for better bloggers on that.
its really awesome news steemit making the headlines
Steemit made his name in online field. Indeed.
Soon Bloomberg will be looking forward for taking interview of famous steemians.
I saw this from a few others earlier today! This is definitely exciting news, and I think it might be the boost Steemit needs!
I think we will see more and more articles like this as site like Bloomberg want to be seen as predicting the future and being right about where things are going.
They would d not be so keen early on because of the risk that it is a scam or that it will fail.
So I'd take this as an endorsement that they think Steemit is here for the long term and stable enough that they are willing to pump it.
Good news for us ;-)
Good time to be on the steemit huge crowd coming in now from all the corner of the world
Thats a great news.I Love this Community. Thanks for sharing.
Well yes we are indeed making history & in the coming days it will grow bigger !
The was a feature on hacker news as well ...
