There are some lengthy posts out there on how to use STEEMIT. They are all likely beneficial. I thought I'd write up something I've noticed in the little over a day I've really been checking it out AND watching those videos.
You want as much STEAM POWER as you can get. It dictates how much you make and how powerful your votes are. Check out some of the trending posts authors you can look at their wallet. Hit F5 and you can see that if they have a little over 1000 steam power they get new steam power almost every browser refresh. Likewise, if you post something and get 20 people voting for it and it says $0.00 and then you post one that gets 2 people voting for it and it says $40.00 or something like that. That is because someone with a lot of steem power voted for you.
Look at the new stuff that comes in. Don't just go crazy voting for anything new. You get rewarded based on the accuracy of your predictions on what you think is good and what other people will be interested in. Upvote that stuff.
REPLY to posts and don't forget to upvote your own reply. After some time if the thing you are replying to gets its payout you will get payout too, and if people liked your reply it'll make more. The most payouts I've suddenly gotten in both steem power and steem dollars has been this way. This is good this means if you want to debate with people about their posts... YOU SHOULD. It builds the community and if your debating is civil and well thought out you'll likely be rewarded in kind.
My first Steem Dollars was a huge $0.031 which I told it to convert to STEEM to see what it did, as my idea is that if STEEM POWER is so important I should be using my Steem Dollars to buy more Steem Power. It told me it will take a week to convert the steem dollars to steem. Then I should be able to use that steem to power up my steem power.
I do know replying is a good way to pay off because I got another that was around 0.5 steem power, and an equivalent amount of steem dollars. Feel free to click on my name. Then click on wallet in the center of the screen at the top. You will see my small wallet but you will see the historical transactions below.
So this place does not have to be a circle jerk. You can debate with each other. Just keep it civil. We all will benefit from such exchanges.
Hey, thank you for the nice and simple explanations. I have a quick question. Is there a cost to upvoting (or doing anything here, for that matter) on new content? If not, why don't people just upvote on every new content that comes up? Thanks.
Your account's voting power diminishes slightly with every upvote and regenerates at a constant rate.
Hi! Fantastic post and easy to read! I have to admit being tech savvy and being in the cyrpto space for a number of years it took me a few reads to get my head around how it works. I'm Impressed. What I love about Steem so much is the amount of people coming together who don't know or have an interest in cryptocurrencies. (or do they need to) A new and fresh way to meet people and share ideas and that is both innovative and rewarding.
Thanks, yeah after banging my head against it and trying some things I noticed all the posts on the topic of how to use steemit were pretty long. I wanted to make something short and as to the point as I could, based upon my CURRENT information. This is day #3 for me so I am by no means an expert... or maybe I am, it depends upon what makes one an expert. :P
Thanks for this post. I'm still trying to see how this all works, but have a feeling we are onto something here. Something that I especially like about Steem is how it incentivizes the generation of valuable information, instead of just saying things because you're saying things. It is a meritocracy in the sense that the most valuable contributions are awarded the highest benefits. This thing has the potential to change the world, once its philosophy gets more widely adopted.
Im learning ,slowly but surely! Its all new to me ,including bitcoin?!so any advice is definitely welcomed!😊
