I wholeheartedly agree! I try to produce quality content, and I do post several times a day but I have a lifestyle that allows me to putter around composing in my head, when I sit at the keyboard it is just a matter of typing. I try several different topics, trying to see what gets bites. I hear I ought to be in chat rooms schmoozing but I hate chat rooms. I am trying some different tactics now. I cleared out all "following" who were not posting stuff I was interested in, and I am probably going to quit posting and just start commenting on QUALITY posts. I don't care if I make any money, if this platform does not get less junky I will go elsewhere, I do not want to be associated with crappy sites. Rather than just bitch and bail, I am going to TRY to make it better. Hard to do when you don't have whale status, and the whales do not seem to care what happens to the rest of the users.

I don't hate chat rooms per se, but I don't have time for schmoozing that accomplishes nothing. I, too, was given this same advice..."Go to PAL discord blah blah blah..."
I just can't ever seem to break into the conversation in any of those chat rooms. It messes up my vibe.
However, I did receive a valuable piece of advice one of the few times I did go to the chat room, and that was to cull your "following" list just as you're doing to shape your content consumption on Steemit. If you are following people who create poor quality content, then your experience will be of poor quality.
Anyway, I just wanted to comment here and let you know that I think your approach is spot on. Commenting on quality posts, and creating and shaping your Steemit experience. I think that Steemit is the type of platform where if the quality users all do their part, it will moderate itself and the trash will be diminished.
I also think you're right about the whales....at least the ones here since the beginning and had a hand in creating this place. It's very unfortunate.
Don't bail - stick around. It might take a while, but it will get sorted out. The witnesses and whales who run the platform have too much invested to let it fail without a fight. I suspect that these problems will all come to a head eventually and a lot of users will bail, but they will get fixed and the ones who stick around will come out ahead in the end.
I hope you are right. I just saw jerrybanfield do a post about the autovoter he just signed on for. I think that is bullshit, if you did not READ the post, then shut up. That makes it purely about who you know.
Unfortunately, if the "whales" like it, there is nothing we little fish can do about it, I don't think. We need a minnow rebellion... l am going to stop following whales. There are dolphins who seem to be trying to lift up minnows, but I have yet to have a whale do anything for me. One actually commented on my comment saying how much he loved my comment... but he did not bother to upvote it. It does not even take money out of their pocket, but it appears they upvote each other and only each other. Another game of "the rich get richer" but welcome to planet earth, right?
Joe, there are some solid, fine folks here, lots of them. Wealth does something to people, and crypto wealth is no exception. There are a couple whales I have discovered and really respect, but I cannot say I have seen them to jack shit to help a minnow. It does not cost them anything to upvote a minnow's post or comment, but they hoard even their power for those who can give them more power. Powermongering is just not something I am ever going to support. That does not mean I won't support this platform, but I am not impressed with the way the whales conduct themselves. That Giselle thing especially... jacking reputation scores even, because they are your personal friend? That is messed up. Anyway, good luck to you! I fear you may find a lot of people acting like they care but they are not going to waste a precious VOTE or RESTEEM on you! As if those cost them something...
