Until you decided to scroll your feed to look at some original content, and realized "this is all shit!"

That's right, I'm talking about the (you follow me, I follow you scenario)

If you are serious about Steemit, this is something I recommend you do not do. When I first joined, I really thought, "there must be something special about me", or "everyone is super nice, and wants to be my friend."

Don't kid yourself. Many people by nature, are greedy, and lazy. This is especially true in the online world. I mean really, just think about it for a minute. How many people have you met that told you "I plan to make money online."?
The keyword here is plan..

I could also bet those same individuals sit on Youtube or Facebook all day mindlessly scrolling, or fill out surveys for fractions of pennies. Even their little survey escapades are never long lived, because they end up subscribing to the idea that they are scams. Well, they are right. Most of the survey sites are scams that prey on lazy people as a means to get paid for advertisements; knowing full well their users will likely never make it to the minimum payout.
The same idea applies here to Steemit. For every serious writer, musician, artist, or entrepreneur of any sort, you have a hundred lazy people looking at trending posts saying "that's what I am going to do!"
No , their not. They will ask a hundred other people just like them for an upvote, and a follow. If they are ultra lazy, they may even skip learning the jargon and call it a like. (Yes I have seen this too!)

Don't think for one second that they will ever visit your page again, because the cold hard truth is, they may not even use Steemit for more than a few weeks.
If you begin following all of these mindless individuals, you will have a shitty day when you try to find some original content that isn't a resteem. The problem here, is that anyone who is mindless enough to lack creativity or originality will literally resteem anything, which means your feed will be filled with content that is mostly junk, or you are simply , just not interested in.
Don't do this to yourself. I made this mistake because I really did not understand how Steemit works, and it was a grueling nightmare to sift through hundreds of profiles, and unfollow them all. It's a major headache, and time consuming. You're much better off not getting into the pickle to begin with.
Have a little pride in yourself, and follow people who share similar interests, and will add value to you by giving you new ideas, and maintaining communication on a regular basis. Considering Steemit is a social platform, it's wise to communicate with the same individuals regularly. You want them to see your posts, and instantly say hey, there's @futuremind!

A good rule of thumb is, if you know a persons screen name by heart, you've probably established some kind of online relationship with them. (Hopefully a good one!)
So keep this in mind! If you don't care, or this doesn't seem to make sense to you, then by all means, follow everyone, but don't expect to make a dime with Steemit. I seriously mean that. I've seen people with 10,000 followers who didn't make more than an average of 2 cents a post. I'm serious! Followers really don't mean a damn thing here. You must engage with others, and show genuine interest in what they have to say. (Not that fake ass genuine shit either!) Real people can sniff that out from a mile away.

If you are giggling or nodding your head in unison, you will probably already understand this. I wish you all a bright and prosperous future. May we all, soar to the moon. @futuremind.
I thought the numbers of followers you have, and the amount you are followed by, were making your reputation number? For that following and followers are ok? In the beginning, I used a bot and I made the mistake to fill in, automatic following... Now I follow a thousand! not nice. for most of the times, I am not even able to read what they write for it is so many times chinese or thai. What I also did was getting a steem basic income. You pay I think 0.100 sbd and they vote you up on all! I did it for me and my daughter and again for me and Veerle. so I end up with having about 6 empty votes, but they are most loyal as I can see on steemsupply. But I get them votes on all, I like that, I know they will never interact they are just votes. Interacting, I do with you and vee, wanderingkells, james-hugo, mariannewest, dmcamera, dswiggle, erikah oaldamster, dragosroua, kus-knee and the girl from the drawings agneslaczo , graigcryptoking, and a few more... they are my new cyber friends, and I will always read their contens and vote for them. Interaction most important otherwise you feel so unworthy. :-)
Yes I did a similar thing. I just followed anyone who asked me to follow, and it wasn't until a couple months later that I realized I made a mistake. I do follow a couple of the auto voters that keep their word. I see nothing wrong with that, but the compulsive resteemers and non posters are not worth following. Also, people will message you in your native language, or whatever language they see you speaking, and then their blogs are totally another language.. That is kind of deceptive if you ask me. And yes, I consider you one of my cyber friends too! Thanks for stopping by friend!
Hey there's @futuremind lool. I think your name will stick on my mind from now on :v
A priceless advice. We need to follow only people who try their best, not those bot-like species who only resteem what everyone else posts and flood your feed with resteems. Thank you ^^ n have a nice day :)
You are certainly welcome! I am honored to have made and impression! I hope to see you again in the future. Thank you for reading and sharing your perspective!
Nice to See you getting more serious about steemit. It's an interesting platform for connections. have you looked at the messaging and private messaging?
I'm was not aware there was any private messaging for Steemit. I am in some of the Discord channels, and host one called Steemit-Friends. I'm curious. Please do tell!
And thank you for the compliment! I've been pretty serious about it from the start, I was just a babe in the woods, and I'm now starting to learn a bit.
messaging and private messaging? Steemit? we do indeed discord. I want to know, is it possible on steemit, because so far the only messages I get is what they write to me when sending 0.001 sbd or steem :-) advertisements :-) but as long as they send it with 0.0001 no problem to me. :-)
I would love to know too!
I agree with you that I had memorised the names I had relationships with on Steemit including you. As an experiment, I added the new guys who signed up this month but unfortunately, they can't be consistent with their posting.
They had thrown away their opportunity to earn money here. Upvoted!
Yes friend I have memorized you too! It's funny I was thinking the same thing last night! I thought, what a shame all of these people just throw away their accounts when they could be earning crypto with their creativity. What's really sad is when you see someone you know has talent just completely abandon. We can't feel bad for everyone though. Everyone has their issues.
