Agreed it's an important check-and-balance and worth spending a few minutes thinking about what you'll say if in squabbles with others. I wonder if human resource offices will start checking to see what you post here before hiring you....scary in some cases!
Good advice. I try to be reserved if I'm writing a plannned post but can rant on a bit if I see hypocrisy from a politician or celebrity. Getting into a slanging match with other Steemians however is a no-no though as all opinions are valid if well researched regardless of whether you agree or not. This platform can't be allowed to become as shallow as Facebook etc
What bothers me the most is that, once we add a native video player (SteemQ or Bitchute) and people start uploading videos directly on Steem's blockchain, we could expect all kind of videos immortalize in the blockchain, and that includes videos of murders, rape, gore stuff, etc etc... There have been a lot of cases of criminals uploading ugly videos on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and due to the centralized nature of such platforms those videos can be removed when an authority ask for it, but that won't be the case with Steemit and other decentralized solutions.
Just my humble opinion, idk if I'm missing something.
That's a large part of what I really like about Steemit.
Let's play "Word Association" for a moment: What comes to mind when I read your post are the words "Integrity" and "Accountability." Both of which (I feel) the world could use a lot more of... so maybe Steemit truly can make the world a better place...
also thank you for putting it out there, you've formed the topic perfectly, I do hope more people think once or twice before stepping in and making an ass of themselves here and there, it's a fine line between trolling and getting flagged by bernie :D skeptic and matrixdweller style
and lastly I linked your "Cash Out" post :) along with some "trade advice" from me :) @j3dy
Can Somebody Teach Me How To Trade?
any tips? I think I've gotten the hang of it and I'm missing just the capital for the market :D
2900 going once going twice ... and everybody was ooooo 5000 here we come :D now we are almost past the "supports" I remember somebody writing, if we only can break through 1800 :D then the sky is the limit, well the water fell down again :D
You called it perfectly, your experience shows, logical reasoning :)
I think I will let this blow off for a bit, I have my btc "stashed" away in obits and steem, it would be nice to make up my investment and the same amount to cash out, just by trading :D so that would be 20usd and 20steem approximately but I've missed the swings this time and it's my first time trading
I was actually just considering this recently. If Steemit is able to gain mainstream success it is likely that users will have their real names and identities linked to their profiles more often that currently.
Employers are known to check social media accounts of perspective job applicants, and a post they made numerous years ago can even turn out to be problematic. Unlike traditional social media, posts, comments, and any other actions will be stored on the blockchain forever. Great post!
Great reminder! I think most of us are aware of how social media posts can come back to haunt people years later, but it's extra important for people to know that the stuff they write here can't be erased. I try to keep my posts positive, and my comments curious, but kind. I'm sure I'll regret some of my earlier posts, but only because I hope to get better at it over time and not because I've chosen words that are hurtful or cruel.
Seriously though. I was raised to believe government should be transparent and the people had a right to privacy. It could be done here as well. Much the same way the nsfw posts work. Password protected or something (for our entire page). I guess I am not understanding what all this transparency is about. So it limits what I am going to post about. In fact, not much. A sort of self-imposed censorship. Haha. Call me crazy, but I value my right to privacy.
Steem's content is immutable. That's great, because any truth will not be hidden due to "selfish" deletion reason.
I mean "selfish" are who are greedy to share something useful, "enclosed easter egg", "fame but not fame", and "anti good spreader".
I mean "enclosed easter egg" is something interesting made to be hidden and classified same as nation's classified document level so it impossible to reveal it.
I mean "fame but not fame" is something to be exhibited but it being hidden same as psychologist patient's secret story/secret identity.
I mean "anti good spreader" are who share something useful, interesting but not intended to promote it, etc. but it being hidden same as prototype of the project or privacy reasons or no free promotional reasons.
A great reminder! Thank you! Over time I expect Steemit will prove that "what goes around comes around" I am often amazed at how few people in general give thought to the fact that "you reap what you sow.". You mean there is actually such a thing as "cause and effect"? LOL
Hey @hilarski sounds like you are living the dream... Have you ever thought of #CostaRica ? ... My husband and I are thinking of visiting Costa Rica.. I love BC too.. silver is also a fav.. have a great day..
As far as this post.. almost forgot lol.. anyway, I came back now that we can post photos easily.. used to be not so easy 8 months ago so I left..there was a post I could do get the photo in so I edited the words in the post.. NOT suggesting anyone do this.. I was confused.. Anyway it doesn't exit.. it is there as a blank post... I did redo it later .. I also left the title so it all made sense .. https://steemit.com/diy/@rebeccabe/diy-how-to-carve-the-perfect-pumpkin
I used to go to Costa Rica for border runs before @AnaHilarski and I got married. I like it but my business is tech and Panama is much further ahead. CR is definitely more laid back.
Its great, comments can't get deleted, I saw some people promoting cloud mining and made a comment for other to be weary. On other social media platforms they can remove my comment that can potentially save someone form falling for cloud mining
Spot on! I would say that has been my favorite part about Steemit so far. Acceptance and respect for others thoughts, ideas and works is 100x better on the Steemit than Facebook/Twitter etc. I am sure trolling takes place somewhere here, but I have yet to see it. It doesn't "pay" to be a jerk or non-contributing member. That doesn't mean no dissenting options just respectful dissension.
So true! This alone should end the name-calling and childish behavior I sometimes see here.
Don't Say Anything that Can Be Used Against You.
I'm sure I fail at this often. I post controversial things because I enjoy the process of talking out my ideas and hearing counter-opinions. I'm sure I'll lose business opportunities in the future because of things I've written here others strongly disagree with. To me, that's a cost/benefit analysis. That might not also be what you're taking about though. If I put something here which was fraudulent or immoral, then it could be used against me, and it would be justified.
As of the last hardfork, there's an option to temporarily make archived posts editable. I'm hoping @jesta will play around with those options on ChainBB and that eventually the Steemit interface will support it as well. Even then, ultimately, everything we ever post here is here forever somewhere on the blockchain. For me, that means staying humble and being quick to apologize when I screw up.
Actually internet never forgets so if you write stuff anywhere it may not be possible to erease it :)
Loads of people and bots do screens and copies of everything they read
When I was first introduced to the internet I was told to write/blog/whatever, like it was being carved in permanent stone, and I have always followed this advice and I have always tried to post things on the Internet of Things with this in mind...but thanks for the timely reminder as it easy to forget that this is a public forum and what you say will exist in perpetuity.
I agree 100% but at least what say on here is censored, shadow banned, or down right removal of your content based on any objection. Agree or not with someone doesn't mean they don't have the right to say it. With that what said above is a great point we must remember that it is there forever.
Hey brother, cheers to you for the reminder for folks to be nice.
It's the right thing to do, no matter what.
👍🤝
This is the one aspect I love about this platform, being on our best behavior is rewarded.
Диктатура???)))
Ты не в полиции работаешь???..)))...все люди разные...".это твой мир,Сынок"..)))
You can't Delete Being an Ass - a phrase to be carved in stone:)

You know what they say - "what happens on the blockchain, stays on the blockchain!"
Thanks for sharing these very important features of steemit blockchain.
Agreed it's an important check-and-balance and worth spending a few minutes thinking about what you'll say if in squabbles with others. I wonder if human resource offices will start checking to see what you post here before hiring you....scary in some cases!
You say "if in squabbles with others"?. I say don't squabble with others.
Great advice for the blockchain-era which is already upon us :)
It sure is, new folks need to know this.
Good advice. I try to be reserved if I'm writing a plannned post but can rant on a bit if I see hypocrisy from a politician or celebrity. Getting into a slanging match with other Steemians however is a no-no though as all opinions are valid if well researched regardless of whether you agree or not. Thanks for the sage advice, @hilarski A fine public service to any #steemian -- new or experienced.
Good things to remember. Did I just make a fool of myself with my latest post!
luckily in a thousand years I'll be long gone.....
but yep I get what you're saying!!!
What bothers me the most is that, once we add a native video player (SteemQ or Bitchute) and people start uploading videos directly on Steem's blockchain, we could expect all kind of videos immortalize in the blockchain, and that includes videos of murders, rape, gore stuff, etc etc... Very nice advice. Thank you for this. I never knew you couldn't go back and change things after your 7 days are up.

I believe so @DenmarkGuy. It will be hard to argue with your own words.
I'm going to gif that video :) it's awesome

any tips? I think I've gotten the hang of it and I'm missing just the capital for the market :D
Thank you, the cash out post was just letting everyone know that I think we were getting overheated as a market and yup it was.
2900 going once going twice ... and everybody was ooooo 5000 here we come :D now we are almost past the "supports" I remember somebody writing, if we only can break through 1800 :D then the sky is the limit, well the water fell down again :D

More reason why I proofread more tha 5 times before posting my content on Steemit. Thanks for this awesome article.
You do have seven days to fix your posts but after that, so sorry.
Might want to fix your typos before 7 days @hilarski - "unflux" & "At lease I can hope!"
Yup, I saw it while I was on the road yesterday but could not fix it. Thank you.
I didn't know post can be edited before the payout. Thanks for the tip.

Ok, also the government can see our income and all moves.
Resteemed. This should be in the confirmation email haha :-)
Thank you, wouldn't that be something!

Thanks for this reminder. Just curious on your decisions to move to Panama, and how that is working out for you?
It is the best decision I have ever made but is not without frustrations. My wife @AnaHilarski is Panamanian so it makes it much easier.
No regrets so far thankfully :)

Thanks for offering us your considerations Randy, never thought of it in this way.
Thanks for sharing information which is really fruitful for newcomer like me..Upvoted and resteemed..
Hello @hilarski !
Thank you very much for your effort !
Happy Friday !

You are right. I try not to forget it when I write. :) @hilarski

This is something that may need to be re-posted weekly as the platform continues to grow with new users. Thanks for the advices, Randy!
You are welcome Tim.

I didn't know about that update, Very Cool!
I say things that will lose fans as well but heh, we have to be ourselves.

I love your quote and the maximus quote. That movie was epic I love it!!!
Nice
No matter where you present yourself, IMHO be honest and be real, if you don't have something useful or nice to say, move on!
When I look at my old post and coments on the internet I'm embarassed how stupid I was when I were young
