Over the past few years I feel like that guy. The guy we all love to hate. The omnipotent curator of all crypto knowledge. I’ll be reading an article during a break at work (okay so it’s more likely that I’ll be doing it while I should be working) and l’ll get excited about the next shitcoin and why it’s so amazing. I’ll catch myself psycho-babbling to a co-worker how it’s so revolutionary, so progressive, and how if we just get in now, we could change the world, or more importantly we could all buy gold plated shark tanks. The bubbly feeling dissipates as I realize that the guy I’m speaking with doesn’t share my excitement.
Hey guy, did you not hear what I just said?
I automatically make the only logical assumption from my cloud of judgement. Aww, this poor peasant, he doesn’t understand crypto. So I go through my quick and horribly inaccurate history of crypto currency for this pleb. I start with Bitcoin, because duh, and string together a loose explanation of what makes this shitcoin different, and why it will succeed where other crapcoins had failed. After I pour my heart and soul into this three minute quasi-TED Talk, this poor sinner is still just looking at me, blinking with his stupid little smile.
Forgive him lord Nakamoto, for he does not understand.
I love crypto (almost as much as I love Steemit). I own various different coins and trade on the exchanges. I would say that I’m at an above average competency compared to the general public, and compared to some of the brilliant minds here I still don’t know jack about the subject. So props to all of you for that.
But I think you all are missing the point of this platform…
If everything stays on the current track it’s on, Steemit is doomed for inevitable failure. (Okay, maybe that’s a little strong, but at a minimum we are limiting Steemit’s success.)
“What are you talking about, fuck boi?”, you ask.
Spoiler alert: You can’t be whatever you want when you grow up. What I mean by this is that everyone looks at this platform as a means to make money. (Whether you want to admit that or not is up to you). Everyone wants to be the next top notch content creator and that’s fine, but whenever the masses start pouring in this is going to be very discouraging. If everyone comes in with the main goal of making money for their content, they are going to be disappointed when they realize that it is going to be much harder than they originally thought. Most will consider their posts a failure and no one likes to fail. I am going to go ahead and guess that those kind of people will give up and go back to the sea of click bait on Facebook and similar sites.
“Well, douche bag, that’s what the curator rewards are for! We already know that not everyone is going to be able to be a successful content creator.”
Not so fast, my friend. This is the driving point of my message. After most users come to terms with their main duties being the curation of content, they will be left with reading articles.
Now stop.
Take a deep breath.
You might want to sit down for this.
Guess what the general public wants to read?
I’ll give you a hint, not crypto articles!
I don’t care if you bombard them with worthy data-sets, or hit them in the fucking face with pie charts, they aren’t going to care. I know that your technical analysis of that hot new shitcoin, (the one that you spent hours writing) is worthy of a view and I’ll probably be reading it but that doesn’t mean it’s for everyone. Lately there has been so many of them in my feed I’ve given up on the topic altogether.
This is no bueno for any party involved. The readership will lose interest in the topic, and you won’t feel rewarded for the coffee driven hours you spent writing the article.
There is a place for crypto articles here. Early adopters are probably all crypto-enthusiasts. We need to think about the future though, and I think the plethora of articles on the subject are not only making the platform more dull, but bringing it down all around. Let’s slow down on quantity and boost up the quality of these articles. When the users of this platform grow, we all grow.
Or just don’t heed my humble warning. I’ll still be here, blinking and smiling with my stupid little smile, not reading your articles, with a lot of others.
Feel free to flame me in the comment section.
If by the grace of the Steemit gods you liked this follow me here.

Oooh, i added $0.12. feels important
Doubling my posts market value! Ballin'!!! Thanks for the read. That is if you read it lol.
Dude, someone added like $794 while I wasn't looking. This is like a reverse robbery. So chuffed for you.
I was at .30 cents for 10 hours. Lol. I'm flattered. Thanks for the early support.
It was voluminous.
X 2 for you!
@calva upvote this man!
very true buddy.. my blogs are nothing about crypto.. all about myself and quality content unrelated to crypto, unfortunately
I won't flame you. I feel with you. It might be a coincidence but ... I've been there yesterday (and too many times before). Wrote an article about something crypto that seems significant to me. I got ... 0.
Since you've missed it too I will give you a link. Because it is about ... take a deep breath ... cryptocurrency and gold.
Check it out -> https://steemit.com/xaurum/@ervin-lemark/xaurum-rebirth-initial-coinage-offer-ends-in-less-than-14-hours
Good luck to both of us :)
I will check it out man!
Upvoted. This is the dose of REAL TALK the Steemit community needs.
You said what myself and my husband have been talking about the past couple of days now. You just said it much more elegantly than I could have. Props with an upvote!
Definitley agree with you on the crypto side of things! But I think the reason that we see the same bunk shit hitting the top page over and over is because the early adopters are crypto-enthusiasts, and some babes that wanna make a quick couple thousand by posting an "about me" about how "interesting" their life has been. Bollocks if you ask me. But I ain't salty. Those "babes" get excited and tell their friends... The more people who adopt this platform, the wider variety of articles we will see popping up. It's a win win for everybody...
Definitley excited to see what direction Steemit goes in the future.
Sometimes I forget that it is still in beta...
Anyways good article "fuckboi" hahahaahaha
Wow me too good point. Beta is still here. Thanks for reading!
Interesting post. I've gotten a lot of my (non-crypto) friends into the site, and they have made similar comments. They want to see trending articles about cooking, fishing, politics, etc. While they may have at least some interest in crypto, and a little more in Steemit, that is probably not the top category of content they are looking to consume.
A lot of the new people I talk about who are not big writers, and aren't that into reading content either, may be interested in getting in on the investment side. I put together this article with a great "how to" tutorial on buying Steem/SP, for readers who may not know as much about Steemit/Bitcoin/Crypto as we do :)

Hey, I'm not an expert by any means. I was just trying to get the crypto guys to step back for a second and think about how they are flooding the platform with crap posts. Quality over quantity. Cream rises to the top my friend. Anything to help the most basic user here is great in my opinion. I'll check out your post.
Awesome, thanks!
I like the way you write. It sounds like my own inner monologue.
Uptuck for that alone, but I also agree with your point.
I love the crypto, used to mine and trade a long time ago, but haven't gotten into the modern game with the 28k% increase in shitcoins. But, you're right, I just skim right by most of the articles relating to it, unless it has something that I can use or pass on to friends who still trade...
True if WE do convince new people to come here. (and I have been trying) They will come to the site and see a trending page full of stuff they have absolutely zero interest in. Will they stick around? Perhaps. It depends upon the person and how convincing you were in getting them to come here in the first place.
My point exactly man.
👌🏻 Yes. Just yes to everything above. I wouldn't mind if you wrote something everyday for me to read.
My only fan lol.
This project should be about sharing useful content across the board. We have a very small crypto world right now, even if everyone you talk to is involved in it that means you have very few people you talk to...
Meaningful content with cute puppies (especially pug puppies) is far better than nonsensical crypto will save the world dribble. Crypto may save the world, but most likely it will just reduce the friction in a lot of ways. Hopefully, we will get away from the paradigm of creating free content so a few major companies can make billions and billions. Hopefully, we can get to a world where micro-payments help writers, artists, musicians, and other creators live in the cities that are pricing them out. Hopefully, we will cause a little bit of a revolution in how we treat each other.
Just talking about crypto, will not get it done. Now follow me for a great pug puppy picture!
That pug picture definitely captures the interest of the majority. I'm not saying that's what I personally want to see but the lackluster droning of some here is boring me to tears. This should be exciting for all of us.
You've pretty much hit the nail on the head with this.
I like crypto, i own a few different coins, I've lost a few different coins through stupid trading and crappy software/exchanges (uphold). but i don't know that much about it. To be honest, i don't care how it works, just that it works.
I own a motorcycle, its a good motorcycle, and if i look after it well enough it will still be worth what i paid for it (maybe more) in 10 years time. But i don't know a damn thing about the mechanics of it. And i don't care. I have a problem, i take it to a garage.
It seems commonplace now that people just use things without knowing or caring how they work. (Not saying it's acceptable behaviour in any way though.)
It's good to be passionate about crypto, but in a forum built around crypto-currency, people (I'm assuming) wont want to read crypto posts as they either already know about it, or they don't care.
And wow, for a "good blog" comment, this went on a bit further than i was expecting.
I love the feedback. I agree with you 1000%. I tend to jump into many things before I know them. It's human nature.
So glad someone has said this, the crypto articles are great to extent (especially as a lot of us grinning idiots want to learn more when we first get here) but after a day or two it gets so frustrating. keeping the people i signed up on board is getting increasingly difficult.
Thanks for the comment! And thanks even more for reading one of my posts again! Much appreciated.
I really like this article because this is exactly how I've been feeling - discouraged because I don't get many views, but also noticing how the trending posts are all crypto talk or results of getting big on steemit. My content is more towards what you're suggesting, I hope, but it may be a while before I get views. I hope more people begin to think like you. Azas
Just keep grinding man. Worst case scenario, you will be developing into a better writer. I have had no real success here but I love the feedback enough to keep pushing. We'll all breakthrough one day.
I'll give you my upvote.

Crypto is great - but so are a wide array of topics. Cover more ground, learn more information. :D
That's what I'm saying! I love learning. It's more of a curse than a blessing. I have so many things I'm interested in that I can't possibly master any of them. Lol.
Woow nice start , congrats dude
Excellent post. It's time for us geeks and nerds to let others play in our sandbox. And we need to bring in some toys to attract them.
You know I used to be that kid in class raising his hand till it hurt. I loved being the smart guy. By middle school I realized this wasn't "cool". I decided to use my intellect to study people. Not trying to brag on myself but now I feel like I can help people with my knowledge of things to help them without intimidating them. That's much more rewarding as well.
Upvoted, but I think Steemit will evolve quickly, can you remember of FB at his early age? Poke, no chat, no privacy. Now ppl promote their services, sell goods, buy and sell second hand. Steemit will not remain as it. It will allow to post various content soon and take over the world. Muahahaha
That was an awesome well written article!! Very fun to read and truthful.
Great title, which finally made sense after reading what you wrote :)
And you brought up some great points. There must be value here for people other than wanting to start earning money.
Oh, and I used to live in KY
Lol awesome glad you enjoyed it. Us kin folk have to stick together. Even though it isn't fully functional, you should give me a "follow". I am pretty close to Cincinnati, Ohio in Northern Kentucky. Like I can see downtown from my house.
Just followed you. Looking forward to hearing more. So far I'm batting 500 on producing quality content but getting better by the day. I find this is a journey in understanding both what I'm most passionate about sharing as well as knowing how to best serve the Steemit community.
LOL @kryptik - I love your sense of humor.
I did write a cryptocurrency blog to help educate myself and translate for some of my actual friends who don't understand anything but the potential to make money. I get that because I'm AM that. LOL But I've been here a week and it's growing on me. Finding gems to read and knowledge bombs are really making this community grow on me.
Hey that's great to hear. I think this could be huge. I love it and it's the first social media I've liked in a while. I plan to write on a wide array of topics but my sarcasm will seemingly show through on all of them. Thanks for your support. If you wouldn't mind following me that would be awesome.
Agreed, and upvoted
