Several speakers explained their thoughts on what the platform needs to grow. There were several ideas shared and even I had a chance to share my thoughts.
My take away
We all have a similar goal in mind. The overall theme of each speaker’s initiative is to help Steemit grow and increase the value of Steemit.
Most have a project in mind and will soon put it to action. Others have a number they are reaching toward to increase the value of Steem. They too are actively working towards it.
My two cents
We are all working towards it, but are we working together? There are many projects out there that cross missions and should be working side by side. As new ideas and projects come to light, let’s work together with the resources we already have. We are stronger together!
My pet-peeve
There are so many with over a quarter of a million SP delegated to them that could be more active. They could be posting about smaller projects and donating the SBD payout. They could be delegating to various projects they believe in. They could be doing more.
I say this, because I spoke to a whale who is in a position to make an impact. They could help so many minnows with projects/project ideas, they could advocate for so many with ideas that need guidelines, but they do not. He/she knows their posts would make over $200 SBD and are very cautious not to post low quality material. Which I highly respect! With that kind of support, it is a direct reflection of character and integrity the quality of their post. With that said, this person spends hours swimming the Steemit pool supporting others with upvotes, commenting, joining discussion, sharing ideas, but they don't post anything. They do not delegate towards anything. Nor do they plan to.
This drives me crazy!
I see projects needing support. I see project leaders spending hours supporting others. I see the need and have a plan to fill it. Two months ago, I undelegated from projects that helped me in the beginning because I wanted less autovotes and wanted to focus on growing my blog the old fashion ed way.
Soon after, I became a Moderator in the Minnow Support Project and made it my mission to recruit members to our community, retain them by connecting them to projects, and educate/support witnesses. There was no way around the support they give the leadership team, so I decided to use all the SBD toward the MSP-Waves program.
My goal was to earn 500 SP and delegate 100 SP over that to various projects. While it took me two months to get there, I knew that success is sometimes also luck.
I dreamed of the day I would be a dolphin so that I could do more. I would stare at the wallets of those that had so much and knew one day, I would be in their shoes. When that day came, I would be ready for it. I made a plan of attack. Then this morning, I woke up to the greatest surprise.

You are an inspiration to everyone coming onto the platform. I remember fondly the day you arrived at MSP demanding (yes, demanding) to be pink and the girl power leader. Of course you got what you want. You are headstrong and you have a plan of attack in everything you do. And yet, behind that, you are fun, funny, and one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure to meet during my short time on steemit. You light up my day when you pop into my inbox or show up shouting MUXXY! over at The Writers' Block (shameless plug). You do so much for others, I truly admire you and easily see why you deserved these delegations. I know you will do great things with them.

it would be easy enough for any whale who doesnt want to drain the pool to reject the payout while still getting out words to the community. grats on the delegation :)
I don't think people show decline payout. I think it should be used toward someone or something thing. The only time it should be decline is if it isn't your own work, but then you shouldn't be posting it either.
i am talking specifically about whales. sometimes i see them decline if its something to do with a benefit. however i think whale posts attract a huge proportion of the common vote because many people vote on their votes for a chance to get part of the huge payout instead of using it to vote on minnows who deserve it. and whales usually generate enough money on curating alone. i think declining payout is using it for something, because its throwing the money back in the pool so that others can benefit from it. I think more whales should do this if they dont have the time/energy to create projects that benefit others. its a valid alternative.
I see your point, I forget that by declining payout the reward pool is higher. I just see so many projects needing funding that if the whales donated their post earnings it would could help another minnow or project. I would love to see a fundraising project where members could apply for support. Let me ask you Torico, if you were given a large delegation or several thousand SBD to use as you see fit, what would you do with it?
