Thank you for posting @hastla, it's an important discussion we should have.
I've been keeping my eye on steemit for a couple of weeks now and have been turned off by using the platform for this exact reason.
But lets put this into perspective. How many people really use FB for their source of good content? Why would Steemit be any different? Steemit is trying to be more like FB not like Wikipedia, should there be a Steemit more like Wikipedia, maybe it's a project to think about?
Human nature will always choose the more fun and easy content, which title would you click on, Man Escapes with his life on train.... or The Foundation of Post Modern.... Steemit is still developing a culture, this is the time to make new associations and support people with like minded interests, forget about the payout.
Maybe this calls for a tag, Quality Content?
