50,000 + users! but only 6,000 - 15,000 active users. Are the lack of instructions affecting the amount of new active users?

Did you know what to do when you joined steemit? or did you have to look for help?

I have over 500 friends on fb and ive been promoting steemit to them, many are contacting me to ask me how to use the site!!
Yes its simple if you know how. but even the most simple things can be alien if you don't know the answer.

Looking at the amount of new accounts V's active accounts its plain to see that many people jumped on the steemit bandwagon and then suddenly didn't do anything.
Usually when you join a new site, if you like it you end up spending most of your time on it. this is not happening here.

why?

I believe its because a lot of newbies don't know how to use the site, they got here, tried to post something , then gave up IMHO.
The main questions im getting from my fb friends is how do you post a pic? and how do you post in a catagory?
I have been on pc's for quite a few yrs now and i didn't even know how to set the catagory. as a web designer years ago, i thought the tag field was for meta-tags. i had to search on steemit for the answer.
The answer didn't help completely because it said to use the # tag. so i tried # introduceyourself, which obviously didn't work lol.

Surely it would be simple enough to give a few instructions on the 'submit a story' page. like how to post an image?, or how to use the tags? or maybe a bit of info to point out that its good etiquette to do a proper introduceyourself post. It could be done in the form of a help button so as not to clutter up the posting page with info.

Surely the aim of steemit at the moment is to get as many people on board as possible?
Looks like the advertising worked when we suddenly jumped to over 50,000 users in the past few weeks, but then didn't become active. has that advertising been to avail? have those potential users been lost?

In this day and age people are becoming more impatient, just look how you yourself use the internet. when you do a google search you probably expect to find the answer in the first few listings. at most you'l scroll down the page and maybe go to page 2 if you really really have to.
The point im trying to make is people need it simple and often explained to them, they don't want to waste time looking for answers on how to do something. A lot of people on the internet that steemit is trying to attract are not techy savy, like a lot of the current users. i think most of the current active users are from the crypto background or reddit. so they are more aware of what to do, or how to find the answers.

I'd like to know what other people think about this issue. Did you know what to do when you joined?
Or if this is not the issue, what is?
Please leave your opinion below.

First mistake I made was: I didn't know how to use the tags properly, at the end of the post, and I couldn't post. But I figured it out.

Then I couldn't figure out how to put an image into the post, made search, and figured it out.

Now I cannot figure out how to use the new WYSIWYG feature of the editor. Whenever I push a button, it applies the button to the full post. Not just a specific selection. I don't want ALL the post to be headline, obviously. :D

I explored Steemit for a couple of days before I joined. During that time, I read tons of articles on all kinds of different subjects, and learned a lot about how the site works. For example, if I hadn't been reading articles with titles that appealed to me, I wouldn't have known you're expected to do an #introduceyourself post, and include a photo with a verification of your identity in it. I wouldn't have known about categories. I wouldn't have an idea of who the big players were or what types of articles tended to trend on the front page. I wouldn't have gotten motivated to actually get on here and join in the fun.

I started out making comments, then made my first post yesterday. It was my introduction post, and I admit, figuring out how to get pictures into my post was a bitch. I couldn't get the image insertion button to work for me at all, and I couldn't find any helpful instructions with a search of the site.

I ended up putting WordPress on an unused domain of mine, and uploaded images to the file library. That gave me a URL for each photo. I then took those URLs, switched my post screen here to show me the raw HTML, and inserted the URLs where I wanted the images. That worked for me, and I was able to get images in my post.

I still have no idea what curation rewards and author rewards are, or how to earn them. But, I'm learning as I go, and I'm sure I'll stumble across it at some point. Someone has to have written about it somewhere, right?

Yes, posting on the site isn't very user-friendly for people who have ZERO coding or website-building experience. At least a basic knowledge of HTML is helpful. Those who don't have it will probably move on quickly, unless they just want to read articles and write comments.

I actually enjoy reading many of the articles here, and commenting is fun, productive, and a good way to be a part of the community if you aren't posting. But, most people probably sign up to post, and may get discouraged when it is more complex to put a post here than on other sites they're used to.

Maybe if there was a Guide to Posting on Steemit in the dropdown menu, it would help people who really do want to post here, but get discouraged and move on when it isn't as simple as they thought it would be. Most people want something easy. The vast majority aren't going to take the time to explore and learn on their own.

I write simple tutorial about using cli_wallet for Windows.

The simpler the better, drag and drop image would be perfect.

I wrote a post about tipping you can read here https://steemit.com/steem/@snowflake/let-s-tip-eachother-to-strenghten-community because I think attrition rate is also due to discouraged people earning 0$ on their first few posts.

i figured out how to use steemit just by experimenting around the site.

Hardest thing for me was figuring out how to upload pictures, then I googled it, stumbled a bit more, tried the computer..then back to the iPad. Still learning and getting tips along the way!

Taking pics from the web didn't work out for a few post of mine, then simply asked to someone in a reply. I had confirmation that it was why the pics didn't show up.

Center with the command: < center>text/pic< /center>

Hi there, I'm wanting to upload a photo to my post and ran upon your comment. Would you be able to tell me if my photo link was ' https://postimg.org/image/o7jm2skjp/ ' How would I write it to have the photo show up on my post. I tried a few times just adding the link as is but nothing showed up. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

you need to use the 'direct link' on postimage and paste it into the 'write your story' panel
for your image it should be #https://s10.postimg.org/rr5jsln9l/image.jpg (without the #)

Thank you for you advice. I will try to post up a photo. 😊👍🏼

As a beginner, I can say my opinion. I'm not from the crypto background or reddit. In other media, I was always in readonly. Therefore, I do not know much subtlety posting.
When I came to Steemit it was not very difficult for me. Fortunately, I quickly found the necessary information in the posts of other community members. Although I realize that still do not know much.
At the same time, I agree that some beginners would be helpful to use Help.
A lot of information is already in the steamit posts. Therefore, I think that anyone from the community members could gather it in one document. I hope that the founders could make a good reward for him.
They can even arrange a competition for the best HELP. This may help some authors to get a head start on the platform. (Sorry for my bad english)

I recently build STEEM.CENTER for this purpose exactly. I'm technically minded, but the instructions/documentation are awful. If anyone wants to help improve that, check out my post:

We should ask for @wang back!
