For what it’s worth, I think that having followers is much overrated. Nominally, I have almost 2,000 of them. But only maybe a few dozen folks who read and/or vote on my blog on a semi-regular basis.
You're late to the game
Gotta disagree with this too. You’re an early adopter. You know something about what the word blockchain means and you know it now when most people have no clue. When a hundred million people are using the Steem blockchain, you’ll be one of The Old Ones.
Yes, Steemit is still in beta testing, but there is a core of well established people. In fact, there is about two dozen people that I keep encountering. I'm hopeful that over time I'm going to become integrated into this society.
