Steemit feature wish list

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

1)  Newsgroup style filtering - As shown in the picture, you start out with an empty list and input whatever tags your alias wants filtered your way.  Click on an individual tag in the drop down menu to only see that category, or click the all button at the bottom to see everything on your list. (list would be alphabetical)

2)  Drop down follow list - works just like the topic filter list does, in alphabetical order of course.

3)  Ability to create topics that grant no monetary gain to topic creator - numerous needs for this.  If an organization isn't permitted to accept donations or profits in some manner, they would probably be required to use this.  Same thing if developers just want to post some type of release log.  The reward could be burned or blocked somehow.

4)  Some primitive form of messaging - probably only work with two users who are online, but maybe pay to send offline messages using the blockchain.

5) Some type of profile page - with just a very limited allowance of text to post a link to an avatar and/or description of account.  Even if it's only a few character allowance to link to a pastebin, better than nothing.  The "follow" button would likely be located here.

6) Storefront integration -likely to come much later. Start off as a storefront for digital goods, then physical. Everything based on a reputation system, at your own risk type of thing.

Good stuff. I think follow could also be implemented with notifications, in the sense that you get a stream of updates/notifications from those you follow...

Agreed, but note this can also be a noisy firehose as the site is now because although I may share interests with a person, I may not share all their interests.

Private messaging is going to be key. I hope it's on the road map.

Agreed. The ability to communicate privately will open more interactions and thus investment of relationships in the site.

Private messaging is already implemented on the blockchain and just needs the Web UI to be completed. It is both in-progress and on the roadmap.

I saw that before but didn't recall seeing messaging on there. Honestly, option #1, the topic filtering part and follow list are way more important.

The follow list is also partially implemented. I'm not sure what plans there are for filtering.

As much as I can appreciate the thing you are trying to do , thing is, nowhere in her post did she mention anything about using 50% of the funds to buy catfood.

She said she wanted to make money, she went to the bank , withdrew some of her own savings, and bough food to feed those cats in the pictures, and she also mentioned she wanted to do this every week.

You suggested that she uses 50% of the amount and you are trying to pressure her.

It can be a science experiment. Pay her like a million dollars to feed street cats, then when the cats have abundant food supply, start multiplying even more. Then the entire town is covered with cats as far as the eye can see.

great list. I'd like to have some sort of pin feature where we could pin up to to say 5 articles by other people that we think our followers would be interested in. each article could sit on our profile page for 12 hours

I'm not sure if new functionality would actually be required for that or if you could just look up what other main topics a user has upvoted. This of course gets into private vs public functionality. It's already strange enough having wallets listed out in the open.

Great list here...Steemit is now open source so code away my friend.

Thanks for sharing, I did not see that yet

So many tags will be proliferated, that filtering by tag is likely to become as much a firehose as is the site now. I don't really see that solving the problem of relevance, except as pertains to creation of dedicated groups which gain prominence over others, e.g. #bitcoin becomes prominent over #bitcoinfans, #bitcointalk, #bitcoinnews, etc..

I presume Reddit can limit the number of discussion sub-forms created because it is a top-down run site?

As I said on my post on Bitcoin forums:

It works under the same concept as IRC channels. While not completely unbounded or analog, the variety of IRC channel combinations you can create is extremely high, yet people congregate/conform/cooperate as to funnel into certain ones.

As I said on my post on Bitcoin forums:

See my rebuttal there.
