Two friends of mine are currently trying to get Steemit accounts and this is the message they have been looking at for the last week:
Thanks for confirming your email!
After validating your sign up request with us we'll look it over for approval. As soon as your turn is up and you're approved,
you'll be sent a link to finalize your account!
You'll be among the earliest members of the Steemit community!
CLEARLY this is unacceptable for steemit inc to treat newcomers this way. Surely there is another way to get them into the system without them having to wait a week?
This will not help at all in attracting new users!
Please devs, what is going on here?
I would love to know the answer to this question.

If that's true, Steem is in a serious problem.
Check @timcliff responses for your answer :)
you need to meditate more :P
haha :) Great response!
Sadly not all new users have this ability. But it seems as if the problem is being addressed :)
no wonder i haven't seen anyone familiar here yet
a few of my cashflow groupmates may have registered as well
saw only 2 continued but stopped after a few posts
its a matter of perseverance too :)
as for the other - waiting for confirmation i wonder what happened to that
@timcliff has kindly provided an explanation and assurance that the issue is being resolved :)
It is a high priority for the dev team. They are working on it. It is going to take some time though. Currently they have to manually review and approve each account. Can you message me in Steemit chat the usernames and emails of the accounts?
Thank you Tim for jumping in here and clarifying for everyone. I will message you some account names and emails....
Hello. Is there some way I can help resolve a delay my friend is having (more than a month now).
Message me on steem chat or discord.
Much appreciated! Will do.
Is Steemit still in beta?
Yes.
This is defently needs fixing before beta is done.
Agreed.
We still have the beta test loophole to fall back on and say "how much money did anyone make in the Reddit (twitter, facebook, ect) beta test? But once it's gone, it gone.
@timcliff, I was wondering if you still have your finger on the pulse of this issue. My better half has been waiting 2 1/2 weeks now, since July 11th, and still her 'sign up request' remains 'not confirmed yet'.
Even worse, earlier today the original email verification link led to the steemit registration page stating, "if you are having issues with account confirmation and need an account sooner, send an email to [email protected]".
I did exactly that, and here is the response I received:
"Hi and thanks for your message.
We read all of the emails we receive to this address, however, please note that Steemit is in beta and we are unable to process certain types of requests at this time including, but not limited to, emails regarding new accounts, name changes and forgotten passwords.
Thanks for your patience as we develop the website and create additional support features.
Ned Scott
CEO Steemit"
...unable to process certain types of requests at this time including, but not limited to, emails regarding new accounts...
And now the same email confirmatoin link leads to a "confirmation code not found" page.
It almost feels as if we're being forced to use steem services that charge cryptocurrencies for immediate usable accounts.
Any info you could share would be appreciated.
Message me on Steemit chat.
Message sent w/username and email used for registration.
Thank You.
Hey @timcliff, I'm getting nowhere with Steemit chat so I figured I would just ask you here. My friend has been waiting about 10 days to for an approval of his account and still hasn't heard anything yet! His email is [email protected]. Please let me know what the hang up is. @trendhobo
@timcliff
Hello...
How long have they been waiting?
A friend of mine has been waiting a week now. Can't even receive the email for registering to Steemit chat... What do we do? Thank you in advance!
Let me know if you are still having trouble.
Hi Tim,
I'm having the same problem as the user above, not on this account but a different account we wanted to set up for our business. I registered on the 12th feb. If I try to create a new account, it says phone number already verified. I can't seem to find the email (so I suspect it never arrived) but I remember being told I need to wait for the account to get verified. Thanks for contributing to the community!
Wow Tim, that was fast! I assume you did something as I just got the confirmation email. Thank you!
If you already have an account, and you are trying to apply for a second one - you are violating the terms of service. Each user is only allowed one 'free' account (paid for by Steemit). If you want additional accounts, you should pay the account creation fee using SteemConnect or BlockTrades.us.
This is my sixth day here on Steemit but I'm having same issue.
I invited three peeps, my son, my sister and my friend, to get on board at Steemit. My son applied last week Friday, Feb 9th and both my sister and friend applied on Feb 11th.
All three did their phone verification but they still haven't received the 'Welcome to Steemit! Confirm Your Email' email with verification link.
My sister tried registering for Steemit Chat to get support but didn't get their registration email to verify either.
She also tried to start all over again using another email but system picked up her phone number and says it's already registered.
All three remain in limbo because they do not even know whether their application process was successfully completed.
My sister found and emailed the link to this post by @samstonehill for me. We'd all be so grateful for your help.
The standard wait time is up to seven days, so it would be good to wait at least that long before taking any action.
What exactly is the technical reason that a registration process does take so long?
When the phone number and the email address are confirmed, what else is missing?
every day the amount of new users is getting less, how should steemit grow this way?
Is the reason not technical? I mean, I was able to develope a registration with age of 14 on my own.
They are manually reviewing the thousands of applications each day to filter out people that are abusing the system and trying to create multiple accounts.
Hey @timcliff, thanks for the answer! But isn't it possible to develope an algorithm to do that? What could happen when a user confirms his phone number and email address and they are unique, maybe even a catcha? This would take just a few seconds and should be absolutely safe.
They are working on automating it. It already does email, phone, and captcha - but even with that people find a way around it.
Hi @timcliff,
Am I correct that these people do this for the initial steem power?
Wouldn't they stop doing this, if the initial steem is blocked forever and also does not increase?
Only earned and bought steem should increase and be able to power down.
Any account has a small amount of STEEM power, which is given to it by the creating account. Steemit also delegates 15 SP to the account to get started - which can be used to upvote. 100 ‘free’ accounts would have 1,500 SP worth of voting power. 1,000 accounts would have 15,000 SP.
Hey @timcliff, i had a friend sign up a few days ago but hasnt recieved any confirmation yet - time isnt a problem, but he says the username he requested still says its available when he goes to sign up again. is this normal?
Yes. Approvals are taking up to / around 7 days right now. The username will remain available until the account is actually created on the blockchain.
@timcliff sorry for contacting you here.
I tried via steem.chat but I havent received any confirmation emails.
Same with my friends who registered a few days ago at SteemIt, after submitting the form they haven't received any confirmation emails as well.. are we having some issues with the registration? And is there anything else we can do from our end?
Thank you.
I’ve heard that is happening with a lot of people. I don’t know if it is an issue or not. If they were able to verify their phone number with SMS, then I would just wait the 7 days and see if they get approved.
Hi @timcliff, my friend received a confirmation email last feb 8, 2018. Till now she hasn't been approved. She tried to click on the confirmation link a week after but it says that the link has already expired. She tried to create another account using the same email and number but it didn't send back a confirmation email. Can you please help her? She wants to join the steemit community badly so that she can share her journey as an OFW(overseas filipino worker) in malaysia.
Here is her email address [email protected]
Please message me on steemit chat.
Hi @timcliff, yeah problem is till now i havent received the confirmation email for steemit.chat. tried registering last night but didn't get any confirmation email so I tried logging in and this is what is says,
So I tri3d to register again but is says that the email already exists:
Also tried registering another email address but it seems that it's the same situation.
That's why i just commented here for me to reach out to you. Hehehe
Message me on discord: https://discord.gg/HYj4yvw
I’ll respond within 24 hours.
Can I know your username there?

I wonder if they just cannot cope with the demand for accounts. Steemit is getting more publicity lately. They have been adding around 1000 per day, but we have no idea if this matches demand. They really need to automate the process whilst still preventing mass creation of bot accounts.
I bought all my steemshop accounts using BTC here: https://anon.steem.network
And the activation was instant.
Yeah I'm running into the same thing. A couple of my friends are over 7 days out already and I did a post about this yesterday, one of the people said their son has been waiting over 10 days for his account.
Check @timcliff responses here to get your answer and speed up the process for your friends.
They have to go through the Cia database, standard operating procedure. Lol, yeah i don't know why, its not like a week or anything.
It has been a week so far for one of my friends here in Bali I am trying to get into the system...
I also have same problem Sam. I have been waiting for one week after sign up.
I make that account for my brother.
Can you message me in Steemit chat the username and email of the account?
okay, I will go to steemit chat, thank you ! :)
Thanks for the info! I resteemed it to find a solution for this as fast as possible ~
@timcliff has kindly answered this question and assured us it is being looked into :)
What do they look at in this validation period that could take so long?
I signed up recently, and was approved the same day. Was I just lucky?
I guess you are one of the lucky ones!
I got approved same day. I registered only 5 days ago. Same as my friend we signed up at the same time. https://steemit.com/@holyface
Apparently you got lucky :)
Might I suggest that you join my FB group Aspiring Steemit Whales & Dolphins? You will progress quicker with the support of this group. It is designed for newcomers mostly.
When I signed up it took me only a day to wait... so maybe there is a problem with the process. Did they try again? And check if there is an error message or something...
@timcliff addresses these questions in his responses here
Good to know that... steem on!
I had friend this week wait days for a confirmation code. Craziness. I do wonder why.
It is a high priority for the dev team. They are working on it. Can you message me in Steemit chat the username and email of the account?
EyyEyy Tim can you help me out with this
Message me on Steemit chat.
@timcliff
Hello...
I invited a friend to join the Steemit community and after registering, the activation link has not been sent to his mail.
I would be very grateful if something is done about it.
Thanks.
How many days has it been since they applied for their account?
have a person who's been waiting since January 31.
@omaticaya is the signup name. embarrasing for us bc we told him about this site. says an [email protected] email was received, clicked the link, and then nothing. now he says he's entered omaticaya and it says its available, which obviously means steemit tossed/lost/botched the first request even tho he has message from steemit acknowledging the request. what gives?
Thank you. He's been posting for a few days now. But I will keep that in mind if it happens to my next new recruit.
Ah, ok. Sorry, I misread and thought they were still having issues. They should have it down to 3 business days now. If any take longer let me know.
it took me about 12 hours before i got my account created. this was just last week.
Even 12 hours seems long to me.

This is a real issue, it's been 9 months since your post and it still takes new users a crazy long time to be accepted. I signed up recently, it took over a week before I could use the platform.
I have the same experience. My friend Signup and looks like waiting forever.
Same here, my friend has been waiting over 8 days already.!
Hey my cousin is super eager to get started on steem.
His account is drum260. Anyway to expedite his verification?
