WE can MAKE Steemit a HEAVEN or HELL

in #steemit7 years ago

The ongoing civil war within Steemit is not healthy to the ecosystem where many of us have invested our life's savings into because we believe in its potential to liberate us from the miserable world we created and currently live in.

According to www.dosomething.org:

  • Nearly 1/2 of the world’s population — more than 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day. More than 1.3 billion live in extreme poverty — less than $1.25 a day.
  • 1 billion children worldwide are living in poverty. According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty.
  • 805 million people worldwide do not have enough food to eat.
  • More than 750 million people lack adequate access to clean drinking water. Diarrhea caused by inadequate drinking water, sanitation, and hand hygiene kills an estimated 842,000 people every year globally, or approximately 2,300 people per day.
  • In 2011, 165 million children under the age 5 were stunted (reduced rate of growth and development) due to chronic malnutrition.

At this time of the millennia, we not only know but have witness the ineffectiveness and futility of central governments in solving these problems. I say it again - the central government will not and cannot solve these problems.

Thanks to Satoshi Nakamoto for giving us back our freedom. Thanks for giving us another chance to make things right.

NOW, the million dollar question is this:

After millions of years of biological evolution, over 5,000 years of social & technological revolution, thousands of wars and crusades, and millions sacrificed, massacred, and killed, are we READY TO SELF GOVERN???

source: amazon.books

Perhaps Steemit can provide the answer. After all, Steemit is a social network, a social experiment that is THE perfect replica of the world we live in. Can we make SELF GOVERN work in this platform to give the world a formula, a model on how we can turn hell into heaven?

The greatest irony in this world is that we dislike and oppose the central authority that imprisons us and yet we continue to behave in ways for it to exist, flourish and thrive. And we know what we need to do to make this world a better place to live in but we don't have the will, the persistence and the stamina to do it. Even worst, we pretend that we've already done the things that we're supposed to be doing.

2,000 years ago, the Greeks gave us the "how to make heaven on earth" formula in a parable:

There was a man who died and was being taken to heaven by the angels. The angels said to him “We are going to take you to heaven but first we will show you hell”.

The angels then took him to a place where there was a great bowl, so great that it was as big as a lake. The bowl was filled with a nutritious stew. All the way around the sides of this bowl were people. Emaciated, starving, miserable people. These people had spoons to eat the stew with and the spoons were long enough to reach the stew (about 12 feet). The trouble was, while they could scoop up the stew into the spoon, they could not get it into their mouths because the spoons were too long. So here, were all these pathetic people suffering and moaning in agony constantly trying to eat the food that was abundantly in front of them – all in vain.

Next, the angels took the man to heaven. To his surprise, he saw the same scene! There it was, a giant lake-like bowl of the same stew, surrounded by people with 12-foot long spoons. Yet something was different here – all these people were smiling, happy, and healthy looking!

Why? “What is the difference here? People are happy and well fed!” The man said to the angels.

They replied: “Have you not eyes to see?” The man looked more carefully and observed that one person would scoop up the stew and bring it to the mouth of another. Then someone else would scoop up the stew and feed it to the other.

The angels smiled and said. “Here, the people feed each other. Here, the people learned the way of love”.

There you go fellow Steemians. This is THE very simple formula to make Steemit a HEAVEN or HELL.

Very interesting post. The data provided looks like a wake up call to humanity to open our eyes and check what are we really doing? This system needs to collapse in order for us to see the option that we can govern ourselves without the need of a government to do it for us. At this point of time, if you let the free market do its work and stop feeding monopolies through governments; we can see so much prosperity for everyone. I can't say we are all ready, but we need to put ourselves in a position of not choice other than taking care of our own selves and take advantage of the possibilities that a free market can offered,

I agree with you @javybar ... yes we can't say we are ready but how do we know if we ready or not if we don't try. We have to start somewhere to achieve this. One step at a time.

Thanks @javybar for your thoughts on this. There's some truth behind many nations that went through civil war - they learned to respect one another.

So true

Thank you for your words
The fact of all has a point of view to solve the problems of this world
In my opinion, the world must be founded on the principles of values and science together
A world without the rule of values and morality is to where we are now
And the opposite of the Middle Ages by rule of the churches and ignorance
Thanks for sharing

this is sad and heart breaking 💔

Thank you !!

Such a terrible sight. With all the technological advancement that we achieved, we have become even more disconnected and blind to see the plight of our brothers and sisters in the other parts of the world.

Thank you for your post. I have high hopes for a solution to the poverty being available through organization, courage, innovation, compassion. Steemit is promising and I think we can rise above the petty drama when we see we ourselves have only forward to go from here, with the tools the blockchain conceptual model provides us. I too am along for the ride just to keep up. Thanks. ~~ steem love

I like your positive outlook over Steemit @ndbeledrifts. Keep it up.

Nice post, great parable!

This is the best post i've read about Steemit's future. Quote from Batman : The Dark Knight, "Some men just want to watch the world burn". Question is can we keep them away from this community, or digest them? Can we make our world heaven? Depends on how strong we will be. Great post, means a lot. Thanks.

thanks @oguylmz for the feedback and for sharing your thoughts on this. Applying the lessons of the parable in real life is tough and almost impossible but the alternative is far worst.

Thank you for creating awareness about what we are capable of. And sometimes we don't have to work hard to contribute, a smile or appreciating someone doing good work is enough. Sharing has a meaning if you give something that you need. Hoping to see more posts from you.

Couldn't agree more.

I thought this needed an upvote just for quoting the dark knight haha. I agree, there is always some sort of trouble or the sake of trouble. How would we prevent someone from destroying anothers account for sport?

We have to think like them but its impossible. You can't guess the moves of the Joker. There are lots of fat fingers waiting to destroy good things with just pressing the button. I think nothing can change and nothing will change. Only more people will know about these statistics and complain about them. Is that too pessimistic?

The thing about the Joker is that he is a self-defeating enemy. He only wins when he makes us act like him -- as we saw with the bombs and the literal Prisoners Dilemma on the boats in the movie. They chose the path of love and shared humanity and so frustrated his brinksman-nihilism bullshit in its tracks.

These pics make me cry dude, fuukkk ! No matter how many NGOs i work in without a good funding its very touigh to help these fellas :(

you're not alone. thanks for reading and commenting.

Lmao I hope no one actually belives this as any sort of truth. These are unquantifiable religious tenants that hold no basis in reality. Why would that specific number even be relevant to humanity’s well being.

The second line is literally Eugenics. Sounds a lot like forced breeding and creating the one superior race kinda mentality.

If less people means healthier happier people. I'm all for it.

That's called utilitarian fascism, which leads to the degeneration of civilization. Besides this shit has nothing to do with the way the world works, its all just feels-over-reals, religious bullshit that is someone's feelings about their worldview. This is laughable to academia.

What if there only was one soul that experienced every human body to ever exist? Loving others as yourself would be literal. I try and pretend I'm litearlly that other person. Even if it's spending 1 minute on how to ease suffering or helping someone with a task, is very rewarding in more ways than one. I've seen some very miserable people who have millions of dollars from cheating other people and money won't buy happiness and community. Money can ease suffering but it won't bring you joy and peace. :)

couldn't agree more @johnadams00.

You don’t need metaphysical motives to do good to others. The first part is making sure that, as a collective, we do not continue to promote selfishness. Humans are social creatures. We did not survive and continue to thrive in nature because of our physical abilities, we thrived because of our ability to work together and adapt to our environment with human ingenuity and reason. Thumbs are helpful too. Jokes aside, the same concept relates to human nature, for all our faults there still lies within us all the ability to work together for the good of the tribe, family, country, and hopefully someday we will all see eachother as one family, or as you put it, one soul. ☮️

Good Thinking. And Yes Poverty is one of the worst matter of fact for poor people to going backword in this present situation.

we made a start on the middlemen, now we have to put the nodes in the right places of the network, bring compassion and empathy above everything, distribute and share, evaluate, rise all boats at the same time, it's all education at the end of the day, to show people there is another way, there is always another way.

Education, education, education. Once we get everyone’s basic needs fulfilled, that is the first priority.

Wooow

This is a well thought out post. Yes love is the key factor for a heavenly future. The government can not help. Let help one another on Steemit by showing love, In commenting on one another post, upvoting one another post etc. That way we make Steemit heaven. Sadly some Steemers only want people to comment, upvote, resteem etc on Their post but never try to do thesame to their fellow steemers, that's not good, we can turn Steemit to hell that way. Let's feed one another with this long spoon(steemit) so that we can be happy like those in heaven as shown in this post. One love

Thanks for sharing the love @blizzo.

Still kinda new to Steemit. Just read your post and couldn't help but think. When I first joined this platform I was trying to leave the B.S. of facebook behind. For personal reasons. I've heard of some abuse here and don't know what to make of it all. I'm just saying I am willing to keep my mouth shut and play nice. But starting to wonder if I made a mistake or what. Only time will tell. Gonna follow you just to keep up. Not much voting power but still an up vote. Hope what I see isn't there. Well been told before what you see isn't whats really there. That cost me big time. Still can only hope, keep my mouth shut and watch. Just one more thing as I'm watching and seeing all the ads on youtube about how THIS is different. Notice I said THIS and not we. Can only wonder when can I say we.

keep pondering @mantualetals until you find the right path to follow and where you're heart is.

We need to eradicate poverty with the use of steemit...... Let's join hands to make this world a better place

Thank you for this wake up call from you today.
The statistics are undeniable truth about the state of things in our ecosystem. I am so thrilled on how you go about all these @sandalphon. Hand me by the hand to teach me how to do these. I already FOLLOWED you.
PLEASE
................

thanks @isaaceko. I was hoping it's contagious enough to make you to act positively and make Steemit a better platform.

Sure, but not without a guidance from a Pro like you.

Great post Sandal. Society has become greedier over the years and we have not been able to come up with a solution to reduce inequality. Cryptocurrencies like steem it offer a possible solution to a social media platform where everyone can win. Lets keep the community growing helping each other out. Have a great day everyone!

Wow! I read through every bit o letter and I did not want the writeup to end. Wow, thanks for this, I am sure more people will write about this. I posted a similar article this morning and I said in it that even though I have no big voice would see the post the spirit could move around. Thanks for this.

appreciate the heartwarming feedback @ehmkannde. you're not a drop in the ocean, you are the ocean! keep posting.

A great post. Steemit.....the community that feeds others while feeding itself.

Thanks.

pssst..
it already is both
now it's up to you how to make yourself feel when you're here
make the right choice ;)

Great post. I definitely would like to add a few particulars that I think could really benefit the conclusion of your post; things that pertain directly to self governing and Steemit even more so.

  1. Support those that need and deserve support but are not seen in the trending section and all too quickly buried by other content.

  2. We can suggest or link to the accounts of Steemians at the end of our post or maybe even the body of our post if appropriate i.e. giving a shout out to people we respect. "Follow @suchandsuch to see this or that"

  3. We can avoid giving attention to the drama and drama seekers altogether. I understand they poke their heads in and down vote good content unnecessarily, but if this happens we can literally just roll with the punches and give them no attention. Don't feed the trolls.

  4. We can write posts covering enlightening and enriching topics and shedding light on the beauty that exists. I think more people can dive into specifics without losing focus on the fact that we are trying to solve a big problem, that of selfishness.

  5. We could consider writing up weekly digests on the state of a certain topic or choose a new topic each week. Regularity helps people feel secure and gives them the ability to depend on us, a much needed experience in general.

  6. We can join Discord groups to find like minded people who can help our visibility and vice versa.

  7. We can set up contests on our pages to incentivize creative thought. The best idea wins "this thing or amount".

Do you have anything to add? There are probably a variety of ways that are not mentioned here. I think the overall goal is to simply provide quality to people that engage us. If we were focused more on the act of giving simply to give then we have the opportunity to shift the balance away from selfish pyramid structures.

Anyway, great post. Thank you for writing and inspiring:)

Be well.

Sean

Great adds @elohprojects. Share it to the steemworld.

help me get a lot of profit in steemit

Thank you very much

I think this is a beautiful and salient post. Be the change you seek to see in the world.

thanks @kryptoe. I hope its contagious.

That parable made my day! Thanks.

you're welcome @carolynstahl! I hope it will stimulate positive actions from the Steemian community.

At first you had me lost... what is the ongoing civil war within Steemit?

As I kept going I started to understand what was being said (still cannot connect the two thoughts) about self governance and the inefficiencies of central government. Government will always fail as it has drag in the middle called bureaucracy that does not create anything of value.

As I walk around my workplace, neighborhood, and city I see that the majority of them are incapable of self reliance and definitely not in favor of self governance. We have been conditioned to accept government as necessary. I get ridiculed at the mention that I want to accept personal responsibility for my actions and do not NEED government to watch out for me.

End of rant... but can someone please explain this Steemit civil war?

Thanks for the thoughtful thoughts @superdavey. Government consists of individuals like you and me elected into office my individuals who have the power and will to promote unselfish love and harmlessness :-)

I actually came to the comments trying to figure out what the civil war is too! Glad I'm not the only one out of the loop. Sorry I can't provide any clues though!

It's funny because I just read an Ayn Rand novella, "Anthem" and it was essentially advocating for the opposite visions of hell and heaven. I think a lot about how steemit.com can be a game changer for people living in places where $2 a day is the average wage. We will see great changes as a result.

$2 a day makes a big difference especially for those in war torn places or where corruption is rampant.

Yeah man it should be control before its toll late .keep your work for the poor people.
Here is the similar blog which can help people to understand the value if food.

@sandalphon this is one of the best posts i ever read on steemit till now, i will resteem it since it should be more disseminated 👍🏼

appreciate the resteem @rabihfarhat. I wish all Steemians read this (they don't have to upvote if they feel like it).

Definetly it should be upvoted too because its so impressive but as u said the most important is to be seen

Steemit resembles the outside world, people look sideways and up to vote, hardly anyone looks down, just my opinion of course.

Wow I really did get touched by this post and resteemed it @bigapplebo.
It was beautiful and so true I hear my fathers voice, he worked many years in third world countries trying to help. That is the kind of man I want to be also and I do see crypto as a good su to balance the scales. Po Er back to people but now how do we use it. There is so much greed already. I do hope that this great idea of self governance finally wins out. I am a believer and truly think that crypto currency is truly freedom from World Bank and owing USA for many poor countries. Great post...

thanks for the feedback and resteem @bigapplebo. You encourage me to write even more.

Wow, I loved the Greek analogy of heaven and hell. We need to take the focus from ourselves and put it on others. Men who were celebrated even after their death, where those, who looked beyond themselves to the well-being of others. The world look up to selfless men. This is an amazing write-up. Thanks for sharing @sandalphon

The ides of love and living for another is easily turned down even in a community of just two or three. Not knowing it is divine. Good piece.

Good post, I writing this comment to get my first like, to some steem power up, like 4like :DDD

Thanks nice. LOOK MY BLOG AND FOLLOW CRYPTONEWS 24/7

@sandalphon did you really put your life savings into steem/it?
It is a decent crypto, but still a crypto, thats pretty high risk...
Well I can't really say anything I invested my "life savings" in bars and restaurants! Anyway, I hope they can fix steemit so there is less conflict/corruption etc...

Thanks @friendly-fenix for sharing your perspective. Life is tough and getting tougher and I'm taking the risks to try every "hack" to early retirement that passes my way.

Yeah @sandalphon I understand, I don't know if Steemit can provide this "early retirement" maybe, but from here it looks kind of like a really low-paid but amusing and relaxed multimedia content creator gig...

But I do think that STEEM has potential if I was rich I would probably invest, but right now my main asset is time, so we will see if I can make it worth my time here.

Anyway I am with you a 100% in the sense that the weird dramas and corrupt-self-spam-upvote-bullsh*t is not doing the community or the value of the associated crypto any good, but I also understand that people tend to always take the path of least resistance... So I guess it is up to the people behind Steemit to tweak it so that everything flows in a more harmonious way.
I hear there is a "fork" coming up? That is supposed to make things better?

What we resist persist hence the civil war, dramas and corrupt self spams. It just the Yin and Yang of life. Fork? Very interesting to know @friendly-fenix. Thanks for the info.

@sandalphon you are right human nature is reflected here, not sure about this "fork" event or "hard fork" it is a rumor, not confirmed. I guess one could "google" that...

it means whatever joy we experience here on steemit is the real heaven and whatever sorrow and distress we undergo is the hell..

Wow...that is something hahs. I love that story of the bowl of stew. I think it could very much apply to Steemit via upvotes and support. Could we self govern? Yes. The only issue are those who abuse the created system. At some point they not only destroying their own account but start to effect others.

if each Steemian governs themselves in a manner that promotes selflessness and harmlessness, we do not need a police to tell us what to do and not to do...

Great post. I hope people will listen. This centralization that is going on here is not helpful. I agree. @markrmorrisjr

Nice post well hopefully steemit remains a heaven. I think there are more good people on steemit than bad.

I hope so. that remains to be seen. if not, we were given the intellect to change our nature.

One's poverty is the fortune of the other.

Your Specifying the source is very nice good post ty..

this is actually the most wonderful thing i have read in a long while.
let's just hope that the community pulls it self together and makes this platform a new frontier for the internet!
and by the way the spoon allegory is so perfect.

thanks @cyber-ghost for the heart warming feedback. the new frontier for the internet sounds amazing.

Great post.
As long as no one can figure out how to infect a good thing. How do we prevent people from doing things other than good here? Is there any bad happening so far in sttemit? That would be a good discussion.

This a perfect write-up indicating how we need to help each other succeed .IMG-20180114-WA0050.jpg
