Steemit features wishlist: Ways to save posts and upvote old posts on Steemit?

in #steemit8 years ago

Hi, I just started Steemit earlier this week, and there are 2 features that I really wish Steemit had.

Experts, if you know how to do this, please help me out here.

1. Ways to save posts
I've read some great posts and would love to be able to archive them and save them for future reference. Is there a way to do this?

2. Upvote old posts
Same thing - read some great posts but unfortunately, some were over 7 days old and had already paid out. I wanted to upvote them as the authors had obviously spent considerable effort to create those valuable posts. Does Steemit allow this and if not, does anyone know why?

Is there a wishlist where Steemers can vote on features they would like to see?

Hey @sizzlingmokeys just some things to consider:

  1. You can use bookmarks in your browser to save posts. Also if you're using the eSteem app you can bookmark posts using that.

  2. If you'd like to recognise the authors efforts after the 7 day voting window has closed, why not send them a tip?

Tipping is still a great way to reward the author as they will receive 100% of what you send them.

Hope these are useful.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions, @elliotjgardner!

Hi sizzlingmonkeys!

Nice to see you getting into the posting habit!

To be honest I agree with your wishes and personally there are several more features I would love to see implemented on Steemit. Steemit is a fantastic platform and I have never been this excited about any other online platform/software/service, but there are some major issues I think needs to be addressed.

But we are still in beta mode

So hopefully many more features will be implemented in the future.

Some of the things I would like to add to that public wishlist you requested:

Less power to the whales in terms of curation dominance. It is very difficult for newbies to break through the clutter and land on the hot/trending lists. Mosts of the content found here is by the users with a large following most of them having been here for a while.

The whales also have too much downvoting power. If a whale for some reason dislikes you (it could be because of unfair reasons like religion, skin color etc.) he will be able to downvote you forever, in effect excluding you from the system. This mechanism has to be more fair.

I would also love to see a draft option in Steemit.

Thank you for opining the debate and talk to you later!

Thanks for the reminder that Steemit is still in beta mode. Yes, I agree it is not easy for newbies and non-whales to break through. I did see some influential authors who are non-whales and their posts did very well. Like you mentioned, they've been on Steemit for a while, so maybe it takes time to build a following?

Yes, it is a huge advantage to be an early adopter to systems like this. In that regard new users today are in fact still early adopters. Steemit is probably still in its infancy so we are hopefully about to see many more people opening up Steemit accounts over the course of time.

  1. You can bookmark in your browser
  2. You can upvote, but the weight of your vote will likely be significantly diminished on an older post.

Thanks for the reply. I wish there were a simpler way save posts, but I will try bookmarking for now. So, I can still upvote on old posts? By old, I mean 11 months old...

I read an old post that said a post would accrue value for 1 year. I am not certain if that is still true though.

  1. Easiest way to save a post you really like is to resteem it. Good for the Steemer too, they will thank you!
  2. You may still upvote older posts, but they will not receive payout.

Thanks for letting me know about resteeming - will definitely try it out.

These are good questions, @sizzlingmonkeys. I'm just starting out myself as well, and I was wondering about the same thing. I don't have anything to add to what's already been shared above, but hoping that this will be addressed with a future update.

I'd also love to be able to quickly see all the posts a Steemian authored, with comments/replies filtered out. Just the blog posts, with a date. Or at least in chronological order.

Hi @livenowandwow, thanks for leaving a comment. I am not sure if I am answering your question, but you can read all of the blogs someone authored by going to https://steemit.com/@username where you substitute "@username" with the username of the author you want to read the blogs of.

For example, someone can find all of your posts (and resteemed posts) at https://steemit.com/@livenowandwow. Hope this helps!

Thanks, appreciate it! Yes, this is helpful. But it also shows all the posts that the user has resteemed, which really clutters the view imo. Would love it if I could see an overview of just the posts that the user authored.

Agreed!

Well, it seems the Steemit Gods have just answered our prayers! Just stumbled upon this post: https://steemit.com/steemit/@alexpmorris/hide-resteems-just-released-a-new-and-simple-tampermonkey-script-for-you-know-what

I installed the TamperMonkey script, quite simple (I'm not a coder), and now I click on a 'Hide Resteems' button. Win!
