Steemian is used more often due to, my guess, there is actually steamer as a English word not like steamian. So confusion can be avoided.

Thanks, have recently been wondering this.
I think they are the same. When u put an "ian" or "er" at the end, it usually refers to the member of the community. eg Romanian and Youtuber.
