I know a lot of people would like to see an alternative to Youtube. It's not an easy thing to run a video service, but Steem may provide a business opportunity for someone to do it. They can take a percentage of what videos make here to cover their costs.

That's what I'm thinking. YouTube already doesn't work with the traditional model -- it's never been profitable. It's real value is as a search engine. A different monetization scheme is needed. I can't say for sure if the Steemit-style blockchain could work, but it would definitely be cheaper than centralized YouTube.
It may work with one of the decentralised storage systems with those providing storage space getting paid. Lots of interesting possibilities
