Steem is falling, don't panic!

in #steemit8 years ago

Once again we are seeing the price of Steem falling, but then so are all the other cryptocurrencies. It seems the speculators are a bunch of sheep who think that an issue with one, generally Bitcoin, affects the others. Maybe the low prices will encourage a new wave of people to buy in. The general trend has been for coins to go up, but I hope that some will be more discerning and notice those that have something special to offer. Some of us remember the days of Steem at 7c and we stuck with it. We kept earning Steem back then and it's worth a lot more now. Even at the current price I've averaged over $200 each week, which is better than any other social site is likely to do for a casual blogger like me.

So I say carry on as usual and enjoy the benefits later on. I may well be totally wrong and it could all crash, but I'll have had a lot of fun. I'd have been blogging somewhere anyway and I've made lots of new friends here.

Meanwhile, interest in Steemit is growing with Steemit hitting new records for visitors. It's going to enter the top 4000 sites pretty soon.

Alexa

Hypestat reckons it gets almost 100,000 visitors each day. On a more local level it's in the top 1000 sites in the UK and South Korea. It could get there in the US soon. That's still the biggest audience by far, but I know people in other countries are really pushing it, e.g. @ehiboss in Nigeria. For those where wages are much lower a few extra dollars make a real difference.

I am an optimist by nature, but I could be wrong. It just seems that as internet usage expands and people seek extra income Steemit has something special to offer. An influx of new users may mean more spam, but those people will soon find that it doesn't pay here. The entrepreneurs will find new business models based around this platform. They may even find it worth paying for accounts for potential customers as they will make that money back.

I will pay for accounts for any of my friends or other interesting people to get them on here. I want everyone to be able to enjoy the benefits. More users will increase the demand for Steem. It's not just an investment, it's also a convenient currency. For now I'm switching to 100% Power Up on my posts and will convert some SBD to Steem. I still plan to spend some SBD, but I can wait for the Steem price to go up and increase my spending power.

Steem on!

I'm Steve, the geeky guitarist.

I'll buy guitar picks for Steem Dollars

Sort:

I dodnt have many sbd but I was happy to get some cheap steem. Still thousand times better than posting and making money for others. Id always trade that for being here, making some and give to others

My only regret is that I used the 130 SBD I got from my introduction post to buy STEEM on Sunday while it was 50% more expensive :/

But here is what I would say:
"Be careful when celebrating success by a a rising price, or you risk thinking it's failing when price falls. Focus on developing."

So let us just spend the time we could have spent worrying, and staring at the exchange prices, creating good content and building an awesome community instead.

I'm a bit worried about it, in fact. Hope soon at least steem dollar will be back to 1$ again.

May be you could please tell me what does it mean? I'm in no idea:( By the way, dear @steevc, I'm sorry for off-topic, but I really don't know who else to ask. About steemit account recovery and the phrase there "Stolen Account Recovery can only be used on steemit.com if the account owner had perviously listed ‘Steemit’ as their account trustee and complied with Steemit’s Terms of Service."

I'm not too sure about that either. According to https://steemd.com/@inber your 'recovery account' is steem. Maybe that is okay. I'm sure someone will have documented this, but just be very careful with your passwords

Thank you for your time on response!:) I just can't understand what that means, and if I'll be able to do anything if something happens.

There seems to be a lack of information about this. There's some on the FAQ, but I don't think it makes it much clearer. I hope someone can improve that, but I don't know enough about it

Thank you anyway!:)

I like what you said, very much, indeed, you made more money then on any other social media platform, but far more important: you had fun, you helped a lot of people and you learned interesting things from others, that's why I am here! Great post, thanks for sharing your insights with us! I remember steem being 24 cents, that's when I joined this amazing and amusing community! But 7 cent, wow, that must be a while from now! Keep up the good work! Glad to be one of your followers!

That low price was only in March. It can all change so quickly. It's x15 that now. My account went from hundreds of dollars to thousands. Imagine if it keeps going up like Bitcoin has!

Indeed! This would be amazing for all of us, and for sure for the early adopters, and the early-early adopters, just like you 😉! But as I see it, Steemit is one of the more useful and nice blockchain-projects on the wild west of the crypto-space, so I think it will have a bright future!

I think it's just the nature of markets to correct after a big upswing. You don't see anything that goes up like an arrow forever. When something goes up a lot, it's best to take some profits and expect it to fall again. That way, it's much less painful when it does. A lot of the up and down in markets is due to human psychology and not to the underlying value of the investment.

Nothing to panic about really... we just have to wait until steem rises back again. We all know this is going to happen :)

That's an awesome move dear @steevec ! And like you said whatever happens afterwards '...but I'll have had a lot of fun. I'd have been blogging somewhere anyway and I've made lots of new friends here! ' Nice thoughts

Uncertainty about BTC hardfork and what will happen to crypto world.
Let's be strong and wait peps.

I think this crash is probably going to be quite bad for the price of Steem short to mid term... which is great because I'd like to buy more

Yep, here it is, the n-th "death of cryptocurrencies". Interesting how speculators have no clue of what they're investing in.

Really, why panic?! Use the opportunity to buy cheap STEEM.

You mean i shouldnt panic and cash out immediately?! Lol yea they are all falling but i believe they'll rebound here shortly. A rush to judgement here could be a very bad thing.

@steevc Keep your great job

I am an optimist by nature

Until recently, I don't think I could have made that statement. But, I'm hopeful that the influx of new users can un-learn the spammy habits and learn to be better people.

I'm definitely long on steem (and cryptocurrencies in general). I look at this as a buying opportunity.

It's not always a bad thing when price is low.

I think bringing others to the platform will definitely increase the demand for Steem! 100% Power Up is a great idea with the current prices!!!

Steem is falling. Its an opportunity for buyers :)

The spike in interest for the search term 'Steemit' over the last two months is very encouraging also. I'm not a crypto trader so short term price fluctuations mean little to me.

Great post, followed.

There's definitely more interest, but Steemit needs more media coverage to go viral. Let's see if they can handle millions of users

BTW I like the user name :)

It's time to buy steem

I love your posts...so full of good information. Thanks, upvoted and resteemed.

Thanks for this @steevc. You cool brother!

Hope it get up soon

It's stabilised for now whilst other coins are still falling. I'd hope it will rise again fairly soon, but it depends on how the market feels. Anyone with a spare million to invest?

down fall comes to reach a newer heights.

nice sharing , upvoted

Good boy!

Nicely said :)
