As I write this Steem has dropped back down to under a dollar. No doubt lots of newbies think this is the new apocalypse and Steemit is doomed. They may not realise that as recently as March it was under 10c! Back then a lot of people lost faith, but those who stuck with it, and especially those who bought some are laughing now. A 1000% profit is not to be sneezed at.
Of course I'd love to see a higher Steem price. I'm looking to pay for my trip to Steemfest with what I've made, so the higher the better.
Even so, Steemit the site is still on the rise. You may know that I keep an eye on the stats and their trajectory has been upwards for a while after some slack times earlier in the year.
I'd noticed those stats referenced something called Semrush that I had not looked into. I don't understand all the stats, but I expect it's more familiar to those into SEO. It lets you see how a site is doing in different countries. The current highest Alexa rank for Steemit is in Nigeria and Semrush looks good there too.
Raising awareness of what Steemit offers is likely to help the Steem price too. At some point companies and other interests may see a value in buying influence here. That could change the nature of Steemit, but anyone holding Steem will benefit. Some of the exchanges hold several million Steem that someone could potentially buy. That would not be a big deal to companies who deal in billions of dollars. It's a case of whether they think it has value to them. They would potentially reach an audience of tens of thousands. What matters to them is the demographic of that audience. The Steemit users are generally fairly tech-savvy and interested in cryptocurrency.
Anyway, it's an interesting time for Steemit as it struggles with spam and other abuse. I am happy to see that the community has been dealing with it. We need to think less about ourselves at the moment and more about what we can do for Steemit. Take the spirit of what Kennedy said.
Incidentally, I'm not sure if I've studied that clip before, but who are the dudes in top hats in 1961?
I'm doing what I can by not voting for myself and by delegating some of my Steem Power to others. I earn a reasonable amount and I won't miss the extra curation rewards.
It's possible that I will have to power down for a bit soon to pay for Steemfest, but I'll only take out what I need. I'm so looking forward to this event, if only to meet some of my new friends.
Steem on!
I'm Steve, the geeky guitarist.
I'll buy guitar picks for Steem Dollars
If this post is over seven days old you can vote up one of my newer posts to reward me.
I'd advise against using poloniex as your exchange to price it. As you can't withdraw thoses prices are not accurate. On bittrex price is dropping but lowest was around $1.05
Is what you can get that really matters of course. I was just checking the chart
very nice write up my friend. Thank you for the calming insight. Its easy to get feathers ruffled up with the price going down but like you said it was in the single digits not that long ago. And yeah who are those dudes in top hats in 1961?! Never noticed that before. lol perhaps time travelers?
I wondered about time travel too. Mind you, we know any video could be manipulated these days, so what can we believe?
Very true not sure what you can believe anymore. This just reminded me of a scene from a charlie chaplin movie.
Or maybe just lady with a sore ear :)
When I saw the still I thought it was something like this where a computer turns a horse into a zebra
haha oh wow thats trippy
I remember when steem was 7 c, so I'm sure that now it's not starting a new apocalypse ^^
About the steemfest, I can understand you and I started my powering down (just for 1-2 weeks, just to be sure to have the right money to partecipate! ^^)
I need a little more than I thought since the ticket prices were announced. I'm happy to pay my share as it can't be cheap to stage an event like this. I may end up with a room to myself
I soo love it to buy Steems that it can't be something to be afraid of ;-) ....I can buy more when it's lower that's simple to understand, why fear anything when you trust what you are doing and the energy you are spending in a place and with people you enjoy ...?
That was a great buy, lol
It could be a good moment to buy, except I have to sell too :D
Under one dollar? Oops I missed that opportunity.
Edit : after reading comments , ok was in Poloniex. So it is normal. It is lower there.
Don't have much but wanted to power down just to be a bit more liquid.
Panick sellers are those that feel most sad later. If you panick for a small drop then don't invest and just use steemit. On the other hand all alt coins are dropping and 10% drop isn't that bad considering others :)
Yeah there's really nothing to worry about. Only the newbies will get scared because they don't know what is going on.
what not steem can do for us, but what we can do for steem ? :)
Exactly! I've invested a lot of time here and it has paid me well. I'm happy to give back
also as a newcomer i got question about how was half year ago when steem was low, but sbd was at 1$, so how much for example people receive money from post ? same or much lower/bigger?
We got less Steem or SP, but still got some SBD. The calculations have changed since then, so hard to compare. How rewards are paid varies to help maintain the SBD price, but it's still been drifting around.
great post i wish i had bought some steem yesterday when it was low, i dont want to be a minnow anymore!
I remember I converted some of my SBD to Steem power at $0.80 2 months ago (roughly) and it immediately rocket to $2.20
At $.0.95 Steem is Really very tempting !
I have been buying more as I remember the highest was 2$ and the lowest being around 70 cents for me. And I think real soon this site is gonna hit hard when more censorship happens
Since I am following you, you are really doing a great job here. Helping the whole community is the best thing to do here. As I read your delegate some SP to the minnows, so can I avail it and what is your price?
I don't charge for delegation, so I get to choose who gets it. I'm doing it for the good of steemit
Ok that is really very good. We artist really need this to establish ourselves here on steemit.
Thanks for the information @steevc i did not know the price of Steem was under $0.10 in March i am hearing predictions of the price going to $0.20
Predictions are easy to make and may be an attempt to make something happen. I don't think anyone really knows for sure
This is just getting terrible what do you think about Poloniex disabling it for more than 10 days i guess now
It's a problem as it limits our options. I don't know what their reasons are
They seem to be randomly disabling wallets from time to time. It is becoming more and more frequent. And apparently they don't answer to why, even if the coin devs contact them to help them.. (seen on twitter). Thats... strange.
Yes , its Time to shopping steem and power up
we have to promote steemit to reach 1Million user , the price will increase
thank you for sharing awesome content @steevc
I wish not that to happen, it will sucks
It already did!
Those dudes with the top hats are probably bankers. That's how things roll with investments, gain some, loose some. Bitcoin on the other hand though...wow
I'm waiting for investors to realise that Bitcoin is not the only coin worth investing in. It has a lot of issues
I haven't started investing in em yet, waiting to get money up to start. Doesn't all of em a lot of issues of their own? I'm also researching and talking to folks about crypto so i know what i can expect when i do invest. I do like steem though. Bitcoin seems good too but i agree, they need to fix the issues that are there
A few strategy in buying in selling and as for steem the perfect time to buy it

Very nice article @steevc - cheers.
A bit gutted as I bought 1 ETH of Steem yesterday at 1.1. Just a kind reminder not to put the bank in at any price. I'll be back to fight another day with 250 more Steem Power :)
You'll be happy when it rises again. It's just how the game works
Sure is, and yep i will be. Would like a drop to the 0.2$ - wont mention it out loud but i think we could see a visit down there before the next surge.
I think you just did mention it ;) I'd rather it didn't go so low, but I think there will be more drama
Mmm 😊 This is true. Drama always, up or down!
