The first week on steemit you get to hear a lot of new words :
Hard fork 19 , upvote , resteem and voting power and then the different type of currencies , SP , SBD , BTC etc etc .
As if everyone know this already no explanation how things work
If you want to make this platform for more users , it needs to become way more user friendly then it is today.
A specially the first week felt very uncomfortable , and that is for someone that worked and played with computers since 1979 very strange. I guess it could be a point that scares people away after creating an account.
Then you see a lot of people posting content as if it was there own , i'm very glad that i discovered @steemcleaners and @cheetah they might not be perfect and not covering every problem copyrights related but it is a start .
With the help of google image search and Tineye.com , i've been able to report a lot of people that try to make money the wrong way. Good news is that Steemcleaners reward people for reporting don't expect a company car but it's about the gesture and not about the money.
The communities on discord , steemit.chat and on slack.com can help people out very well unfortunately steemit doesn't cover this option for groups or messenger , so you have to use external options .
Then the look of "timeline" / "wall " you have to select a post on the title and a shitty Thumb , people at busy.org made a nice solution that doesn't make your photographs look like shit in a thumbnail.
A specially for people that come from FB will love the busy.org layout , not sure how safe it is to login there with your steemit account, but you can still look :)
Looking forward to changes that the developers might bring , it has potential but i think that after each patch / fork all witness votes should be reset , why ? because with patch 19.1 it took way to long for most witnesses to upgrade, the only way you can force them to stay on top of things is if you reset the votes every know and then.
Copyright violations is another thing that bothers me , seeing other people making money from other peoples work without permission to use the content , or even without mentioning the complete source , and the people that vote for it really should learn to understand that they are motivating a thief to steel even more.
That is also why i kind of hate the upvote bots , they blindly upvote without checking the content they vote for , for 1sbd they already look the other way , and some bots are even free of charge. if those bots could use the DB from steemcleaners and cheetah they wouldn't vote so much for stolen content ;)
And finally another change i would like to see is that if you Mute someone because they misbehave they can still interact with your posts only you won't see it , there should be a BLOCK option to make sure that people can't interact with your posts.
auto reply bots and other annoying accounts if muted by enough people should lose reputation so they can't comment anymore on posts . Now the only option is to down vote them at cost of voting power , that could be better used to motivate new people on steemit.
o well it looks like this is my longest post so far , don't expect me to write this kind of things on daily base :)

@stresskiller help me out here. I agree with most of what you say but I am conflicted because the idea of a free playing field for people to share, collaborate and elaborate on the works of others. I can't claim to be any authority on the subject, but many people here seem to lean towards or at least appreciate the civil anarchy that steemit offers. I myself have lots of posts where I have shared videos, pictures and other goodies that simply aren't my work, but in my attempts to shine light on interesting things, I do try to point to the original person or source, but given how much I have had to learn about content creation in such a short time, I figure if I can do it. Everyone can. I mean to say, I know how to find things and see where they come from, but unlike many opportunistic people on here who do things willy nilly, I am struggling to find the balance between taking an original picture of the dog and cat everyday out of fear of copyright vs sharing other people's content but contributing my own unique perspective or understanding. Please advise. If you have a bad reaction to other people's work making someone else crypto, maybe sit down. But how could I achieve the same goal with this post, without sharing the content of others.... see what I mean: https://steemit.com/science/@ecoknowme/not-your-high-school-electrolysis-give-me-one-week-to-blow-your-mind
I really liked compiling the info, since it took me over a decade to become aware of all the THINGs, but seriously, if I can't turn off the pay me option, how should I move forward doing similar things?
the post you made is about some kind of scientific research , honestly a post i never would read because i already have problems reading that kind of info in my native language.
wow that is a lot of material made by other people indeed, have you actually tried to contact the creators if you may use it for a journalistic publishing with naming them as creator ? Cause that is how most news websites work these days. You do give credit (except for the videos for some reason) and make your own story around it already . The only thing you should need is permission to use it from the creators.
If people keep doing this sooner or later some copyright authority is going to knock on the door and is going to demand legal actions.
If people would use my pictures to make money and not pay me for using my material i would be pissed. After all we all have bills to pay at the end of the month.
Well, see the problem is that the topic itself is kindof controversial and difficult to find good information on. I resent the default that if I post something I will automatically be eligible to get crypto and fame when really I do the same thing on other social media sites and everyone would consider it a normal exchange of information socially. Like Social Media. I didn't write that post for the cash rewards, I wrote it because it took me over a decade to wrap my head around all that informaiton and find quality sources. Stan Meyers is dead, some believe because of his work on this topic, same with numerous others I won't go into here, but that's kindof not my deal. I know you probably treat this exclusively as a money maker that fits into your own interests or choice of content to put out. But I don't feel that that attitude is healthy, for me. If you can feed yourself on Steemit, awesome. But the vast majority on here are probably lucky to make predictable funds regardless of how noble or twisted their means are. Sooooo in light of what you are saying, here is my middle ground: https://steemit.com/technology/@ecoknowme/new-electric-vehicle-record-1200km-on-a-single-charge I want people to know about this guy, HIGHLY doubt he has time to do both his passion, YouTube and start a new Social Media platform while breaking world records. I referenced his page, provided links to the companies/ projects mentioned, alluded to a superior technology in a hyperlink and linked to a related article I wrote, all while tying it together in my own unique and quirky way. The video is his, the context, additions and the fact that I am the one to introduce it into your consciousness are on Me, So, what do I do here? write a story or a poem, tell him to join steemit like I have attempted to do on multiple occasions? Ben Falk, Curtis Stone, Cullen Smith, Mira Prabhu the list goes on and on.... their audience is on other platforms, but the Steemit community may or may not know. Help me find the line. Shall we just wait for the entire internet to repopulate itself over here?
it's not about the amount of money one makes it's about the fact that they make money with it. You want people to educate nothing wrong with that still you link to websites and still you could ask permission from those websites for using the videos. almost every /News website on the net work like that these days they hardly purchase content anymore , look on twitter if people post a picture of an incident in no time all kinds of news website are begging if they can use that picture , but they won't pay but at least they ask before they use it. Ben Falk, Curtis Stone, Cullen Smith, Mira Prabhu don't know these people just ask them if you may republish their work on this platform to enlarge the reach of publicity , tell them that you thin it's important that the people on steemit should know about it . Sometimes people chose not the be published on a platform like these because of the nudity (nsfw) . Same thing with photographers some of them don't want to expose their work on every medium , they like to stay in control of what happens to their content.
but i'm not a writer i take pictures some are better then others it's a hobby , and if i see someone making money from my hobby i want my share .
The same goes for those people that make the videos and did the research they invested in equipment and time , they could use the funds for new research , so make a deal with them for use of the videos and share the profit.
I hear you. I guess I am also trying to balance my moral conundrum with an acceptance / understanding of the times. Copyleft or various arguments about the nature of intellectual property is debatable, but I guess as I read your words, I was trying to think about the days of Napster and Metallica. Now with sites like Mycelium popping up to try and streamline the whole process so that if you put in content that is recognized, you automatically divide the rights and profits. Depending on if it is for charity, education, profit or artist collaboration... Steemit does not do that yet and the idea that I get lured into here to give my content just-as-easily as any other blogging or social media platform like the regular shlub I am, now suddenly I need to treat to content carefully because I stumbled in here and my blitherings are construed as busking for crypto. I COULD blog off of here, but I don't get blockchain, I don't get encryption, ownership of my views (even if they are of others or simple nods, points or quiet adoration). I see your side as a photographer and I believe you are already empowered with many tools to protect your work (plaster your name across everything) but like anything on the internet. once you put it out there. it is gone. Your online presence will be condensed into a tiny file at the end of your life and everyone you know or did will probably be viewable to future generations, this conversation included. Existentially, is your impact /guiding principle here about your credit, crypto control and legacy or letting yourself get frazzled by those dang kids and their disrespect of how things should be, while simultaneously being selective about which beats you dance to and which music is acceptable? Just playing devils advocate because I am stuck in an agreegument.
what the future will bring is what we teach our children , i raised my kid with respect for art and artists , cause with out that respect why would someone even bother to be creative and make something new. And then we would be watching the same tv series over and over again because there is no funding to make something new. Same with the music industry, and journalism and research . Same with local food stores vist the baker and butcher store cause if the supermarkets gets to much power you might end up eating 3d printed food .
Wise Words my friend. So help me out here. IF I have a song I'd like you to hear and If I post it here in the comments. What is your feeling? I need to contact the heirs of Patsy Cline/Kurt Cobain first? You need to make sure no one upvotes it because then you too are culpable by receiving crypto for my music choices? I too was raised to respect the arts and also to pursue them in their own right. Capitalism creates a false scarcity mentality where ownership becomes important because it is not like food and housing are readily available. I can't play you a song to make you happy because I'll be stealing sound waves by releasing them into the air. Can you think of any situations you are conflicted in seeing, doing or receiving? I think a lot of our mentality is shaped by mediums ideologies and beliefs we might not question due to the cognitive dissonance it might cause us. Maybe your lines are all in focus.

@stresskiller, thanks for sharing you thoughts about your first week on Steemit. It is a very challenging road and it sometimes hard to gain traction on this platform.
I love the possibilities that Steemit can provide, but I too am concerned about the issues you have expressed. I hope you continue on this journey and help other people make wise decisions as they start their journey.
Thank you , i have thought long about this post and where to post it so developers can do something with the feedback .
To many people are focused on the money and that is something you see back in the quality of the content, and with that i mean the copy cats .
I think you cover it all pritty well. But it's a beta and remember all the bugs we had at Tsu? Yes there were plenty. But after Tsu I was ready fore another Beta site, don't understand anything at the beginning, just like you, but now I know enough to "play the game", because always when there is money involved, there will be cheaters. "Live whit it, and hope for the best", thats my attitude to day :)
yes , i do remember the TSU bugs still have some screen shots :) and there will always be cheaters when money is involved , but creating awareness to the people that vote might help in the end.
Of Course, your post is really good, and there has to be more posts like this.
The problem is there's no avenue to suggest feature upgrades or even report bugs. You just have make random comments and posts around the various channels and hope that someone picks up on it.
This is the longest written text I've seen from you so far! You're doing great with it, you should write more ;))
Totally agree about the 'block' rather than 'mute' option..that ensures that the user can't continue to spam your posts!
thank you , the thing is i need to be isolated from everything and everyone no distractions then it might work the writing.
Looks like you managed to hideout for this one then :)
yep everyone was a sleep except me :)
Nice interesting points you raised her, good thing that steemit is still on beta. The FAQ portion of the site can help the newbies get a grasp of how things work.
What i miss most in the faq is screenshots not everyone is that good in English.
I'm aware that steemit is still in beta that is also the motivation to make this feedback , to help improve steemit , without feedback they won't have things to work on .
Yeah, you did an awesome job, also I think they should also add a way to appeal a downvote if you feel it's not justified :)
i've seen some nasty flag wars out there and it can't be the intention of the flag option to ruin a person because they think different about things.
Yeah, we have to disagree or have divergent views on some issues, settling it with a downvote is kinda being a lil dictator :)
make that a whaletator :)
You got me. Lol

I suppose it depends on how one looks at this place. If this is a blogging platform, original content is king. If this is a new kind of Reddit, it's about bringing all content to users' attention for the purpose of entertainment, education, and discussion.
As for user-friendliness, yeah this place is not even close to being a walk in the online park.
never used reddit but the way you describe it it almost sounds like pinterest and thumbler
Great post and you put a lot of work into it! I go with anything that will help others! Upvoted and blessings to you!
thank you very much Stephen, have a great day
I'm new and haven't posted anything yet, I keep procrastinating and putting it off. You brought up some things I haven't considered about people posting other people's content and writing. That seems to go against the idea of getting paid for original content. I wish you well here!
yes there are people out there that think they have a right to copy other peoples work and get paid for it.

yeah, there's a lot of problems here that I think are going to be inherent in any system that is basically a free-for-all fest. You've covered a lot of them above, so I won't add to those. But there's one less contentious thing that I think needs revising, and that is the 7 day payout window. What happens when a post goes viral after a month (or even 8 days)? The author gets nothing for it, other than I'm assuming some reputation points. What i'd do is have a sort of reverse curation that kicks in after 7 days. By that I mean that any comments made after the 7 day mark pay a 25% curation reward to the original author of the article. After all, it's his/her article that is allowing this viral explosion in comments to happen. They should get some of the new rewards on offer for that.
i do agree that it is a kind of strange that after 7 days a post loses it's value, while people can still upvote the post. It's also strange that after 7 days you can't resteem it anymore.
Wow, I didn't realise that about the resteem limit. Crazy. The idea that a post only has value for 7 days is ridiculous.
