A quick post on the etiquette of steemit. I have read many posts on the pro's and con's of self voting, it is generally agreed that it is a poor choice. But what if you comment on a post, self vote yourself, and also tip the person above you?
Any thoughts? I began using this idea yesterday- had mixed results. Thank you for your time.
Here is a (somewhat vulgar) point of view on it

Basically it boils down to, vote on what you think is quality.
In my case, I tend to (generally) be pretty heavy handed with my worthless minnow vote. I do use the "auto" upvote when posting and I do use the upvote on my own comments when the string of comments is very long. Else, I tend only to upvote other people.
Hello timeshiftarts! Thank you for the linked article- it was interesting.
Great idea will follow:)
Thank you chrizbiz! I have added you to my follow list. thank you for the reply.
thanks. I wasn't sure about upvoting your own comments.
welcome!
I self vote but I vote liberally for all interactions!
I agree!
It feels weird to me to self vote. I feel like it is like giving myself a high five or laughing at my own joke. I don't up vote for myself. I understand why others may do it, but I am choosing to refrain.
Hello! It does feel weird to self vote; but I tip the person above me as well- same amount or more! Thank you for the reply!
Most people do it this way. I have been doing this from the very beginning. Rewarding engagement is the whole purpose of rewards on comments.
But currently the incentive structure is allowing selfish users to abuse the platform to simply print themselves money, without contributing anything to the community. This is why I am working so hard to get these things fixed.
very true
Seems so. I saw one person reply and upvote his reply, but not upvote my original post. $ for him and 0 for me.
