They compressed the reputation scale and multiplied by 10. Whereas it was formerly a scale of roughly scoring 0 to 10, it is now roughly a scoring scale of 0 to 8. Therefore, by proportions, 6/10 = X/8

Solve for X and multiply by 10:

10X = 48
X = 4.8
10*4.8 = 48 (multiply by 10)

48 is fairly close to 51. I got similar results with my reputation. Of course, the real calculations are a computer algorithm and much more complicated. My explanation is a rough approximation of the algorithm.
