I introduced someone to Steemit and after a month and three posts, they told me it was too hard. I told them "You're an idiot."
Then I started thinking about it... Is Steemit too hard for new people?
(Source)
After a lot of careful deliberation I have decided that it depends...
If a person is coming here with the expectation of making a lot of money or with the expectation on growing their account easily to be worth tens of thousands of dollars, then they will be disappointed. It will be too hard for them because their expectations will be unrealistic. They get here and only make a few cents on their first post, and they start doing the math... and it doesn't look good. Steemit is not a place for people to get rich quick... not at all.
It is important that when we invite people here, we tell them about honest expectations. There are some who have grown quick, but they devoted every waking hour to this platform.
If someone joins the site and has the gratitude that they can get paid to make the same content they are producing other places for free, then things change a little. Then the person is grateful for everything they make and will likely be a regular user of the platform.
Then there are those that see the long-term potential of the site and want to be apart of it... at whatever cost. I'm in this group. I see what Steemit could be one day and the value is beyond monetary. There is a possibility that in a couple of years I could be a full time Steemonian and that really drives me to post daily and engage.
It is the people that see the long-term vision that don't worry if it is too hard. The long-term rewards far outweighs the effort it takes to start.
I started at zero like everyone else, and have put in countless hours into creating blogs and commenting and interacting with the community. I love it. It has taken me over 7 months to get to 59 reputation and 900 Steem power, but I did it from scratch. You can too.
It will take a while and it is hard. Maybe too hard for some people, but that depends on where your mindset is and how you perceive the benefits of Steemit. If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it and look how that turned out for Facebook. I like that it is hard, it takes work and there is a sense of accomplishment every time I look at my wallet. Put in the work and get past the hard phase, your future self will thank you.
Do you think Steemit is too hard for new minnows?
Good post to read being here only a few months . Some buy steem on the open market and find themselves here posting as well . An investment in the coin helps a bit but many can't do that .
Yeah I agree. Investing in is the easiest way, but not everyone can do that.
It is definitely difficult if you think short term and if you think of the value of Steem and SBD today...but in a year or a few years, it could be a whole new game. Who knows, the price could explode exponentially, and all of those penny posts start turning into real money. I also like the crypto advice and technical analysis that is share here. That could be more rewarding than the posts themselves if you invest correctly. Steem also got me off of FB which makes it worth it alone based on that...
HAHAHA, me too. I still use Facebook for work, but I don't use it personally much anymore. Anytime I catch myself scrolling down the time line, I stop and go to Steemit and read a post and reply. lol
Trying to get rich quick on steemit is like that time i took the penis enlargment pills for a week ........ er um, nevermind. I mean it's hard. Damn it thats not right either.
LMAO!!! Exactly... Couldn't have said it better myself.
Great. My first top comment and its about having a small wang ...... < long disappointed sigh > lol
The trick to all good comments
Steemit has to be approached with eyes and mind wide open. Whatever expectations you may have, they will lead you to disappointment. It is like nothing that has ever been tried before. Expecting facebook? It will disappoint. Expecting twitter? It will disappoint. Expecting get-rich-quick I think most get over, but if you expect to have a post make as much as @"thatothersteemian" because yours is on the same topic and maybe you have better credentials... but he has 10K followers and you have 10, you are going to be disappointed. Over and over, you are probably going to have steemit disappoint. I would say expect nothing, except to be disappointed, then just hammer away and see what happens. You might just discover the rewards outweigh the unmet expectations.
Yes!!! Controlling expectations is the key to almost everything. Especially Steemit. I just try to keep moving forward and adding what I can. I'm here for the long run. Thanks for the great reply. I think you are spot on.
To some extent, you must agree that this platform is becoming harder with the increase in the number of users. And you are right, without effort, how could anybody expect positive results. I'm a beginner and I'm not expecting huge rewards now, but one thing disappoints me and that is, I started to write blogs, I was not expecting a high return but those posts didn't even get views. Like if nobody sees what I share, how could they decide whether that is good or bad?
Please tell me how to get more viewers on my post?
Like, can you please tell what was wrong in these posts that these couldn't get few viewers?

One thing that I see is that you are not putting enough value in your posts. The DMania posts are not worth much at all. They are just memes and those generally don't do well here. The one about believe me they exist did the best because you added the most content and provided a lot more value to the reader. You are also only doing one or two a day. It will take a while to grow so spend more time reading and replying to others. IT will really help. Good luck man.
You need to read and comment until you have at least 100 followers, or you're going to burn out.
@mattclarke, without any offense brother, what I've observed that steemit users don't use FEED, instead they go to trending & Hot tabs for getting curation rewards. My friend who introduced this platform to me, has 1500 followers but often he didn't get even 10 views or even one upvote on some of his posts. So, would a high number of followers really matter?
Quantity of followers doesn't matter, but quality does.
If they followed you because you followed them and they don't care about you, they're not going to read your stuff.
If they liked a comment you made and want to see more of what you have to say, they're good followers.
Its slow, but much better than blogging into dead air.
Good point. So, I should better interact with the people who are commenting on my posts or upvoting it or both.
Thanks bro for guidance. Following you. :-)
Its more about your comments on other people's posts.
Like this one.
That's for sure I'm doing or better to say I'm focusing on carefully reading and then commenting something good about the subject matter. :)
Interaction and quality comments will get you seen. Nice post will run the potential of getting flagged...
Though I never wrote like that or got flagged, but learned it by observing few people whom reputation were falling instead of progress. Thanks for reminding. :)
I totally agree with you. The best thing to do is to grow together with the platform.
I agree. We just got to help push things forward and keep growing as a community. You got a new follower. Thanks for the reply.
thanks! I followed you back.
i think not everyone has a lot to post, or maybe not sure what to write as they are used to only posting photos on other social media. And the biggest reason i heard from my friends is because they don't know anything about cryptocurrency, so the payment in steem dollar doesn't appeal to them
All great reasons, and there is a major learning curve that comes with crypto in general anyway. You are right, there are many barriers. As always, you make some great points.
a very nice and interesting post.
I like it very much.
success always brother.
Steady
thank you!
it could be hard if people have unrealistic goals .I am relatively new here and i have been learning something new about the platform every single day.
I am pretty new and it is pretty hard to grow your page but i have done a decent job and every like and follower is appreciated!
I think it is just the same as any platform. You have to put in some work and more so in the beginning. Then it all starts to snowball!
Wise words... I see it as a company, none makes money straight away with a business. And yeah I'm totally into that "long term vision"
"If someone joins the site and has the gratitude that they can get paid to make the same content they are producing other places for free, then things change a little." I agree and it is what I tell folks!
Is the learning curve hard, YES it is!!!
And it is why I did a collab (with @daddykirbs, @papa-pepper, and @mericanhomestead) for those coming in from YT and had others join it to get them started and it can be used by anyone just coming in to at least get started on how it works along with site safety for the first week or so and with links to others where they can read and learn.
And you know I am in it for the 5-10 yr potential..
You are exactly right, there is no quick buck to be made here. It takes hard work, determination, and most of all...Patience! It is frustrating sometimes, but what isn't? I too, am glad to be away from farcebook.
There is a possibility that in a couple of years I could be a full time Steemonian and that really drives me to post daily and engage.
That part tho - that there is a possibility in COUPLE OF YEARS!
Understand this is a marathon and not a sprint
Fortunately for me I find Steemit to be fun :D I try to make blog posts out of what I would be doing anyways, so it just works well for it even if I do not make money. I have 200 followers after 2 months, I'm happy! I'll give you a follow back :D
When you have fun and you get a reward in return this is the true essence of Steemit.
I think most people join to make quick money and see it isn't easy and they leave? Idk that is what I think. It's not a hard website just do some little research and you will get the hang of it. The hardest part for me was understand how the up vote and percentage of upvoting worked. Steem dollars is different from steem other than that it's self explanatory.
