I made a post which stated that I believed EDITING your blog posts counted against your 4 daily posts.
I was wrong. And I'm sorry. You can edit to your heart's delight.
The issue I encountered was absolutely no one's fault but my own.
I edited my original post, which had gone nearly to the top of the trending page, and stated that for anyone who had commented on it before 2:26PM Central Time I would evenly distribute my earnings to them. There's not much left after losing the upvotes from the community, including some VERY influencial whales, but even if I'm only left with $10, I want to do what I can to make sure everyone gets something for alarming the community.
If nothing else, I hope this really shows that I care less about the money than I do you guys.
YOU are where the value is, not the money. The money is auxiliary.
Won't happen again, everybody.
This is not all your fault. The steemit dev team should be the one producing official howto guides, not leaving it to the users. I wrote up a post about it to bring attention to the scams going on in these topics. I am not calling you a scammer winston, just pointing out that guides should be released by the product owners who know every little detail about how it really works.
How to Stop the Scams - Stop voting for Introductions and Steemit guides
I appreciate your post here, @tinfoilfedora . And actually I would be inclined to agree with you if this wasn't in beta. It's kind of still under development in general, like a company bringing its employees into a building that the construction crew isn't quite finished with. Once we get out of beta, I have confidence it will be a much smoother experience.
They will use that "it's in beta" excuse for as long as you let them. Bitshares has been in beta for years...
Millions of products "still in beta" provide the users a polished experience with manuals and current documentation with every release. It is possible and expected for a product that handles money.
Don't let them get away with that excuse any more.
lol Yeah I'm in no position to say they can't get away with something if they wanted to.
Don't beat yourself up over it. Accidents happen, and we all make mistakes. I've posted a couple entries about the Steem Power "interest rate" that caused more confusion than they helped, but it was my way of talking out loud to understand things better. I, for one, think you handled it as best you could, given the circumstances. So much of this experiment feels like it's forever because of the blockchain... but one thing that is always changing is who we are. We're different every moment of the day because we constantly get new inputs. It'll be okay. I've still got you on my follow list.
Hey man, I really appreciate your post and what you are going through. I feel your pain and the resulting confusion, you have heart friend. This is an open public forum. People are going to say all sorts of things that later they wish they hadn't. I think people can forgive you immediately and note that it easily could be them next. At least you are NOT faking posts and writing posts about how steemit sucks, those are the cats that have to go. You were just freaked out by the $$$ signs, happens to nearly EVERYONE. You are not the Dali Lama, and do not need to be. Peace friend! ...And I am going Follow you, you have deep, deep, deep integrity man, I know it! Steem on kind fellow!
I appreciated the warning when you thought I might be shooting myself in the foot. :)
I was harsh in the comments of your post but I'd like you to know it wasn't meant to be personal. Thank you for at least trying to let people know of something that could be a problem. It's better to inquire first, which you could do on the new steemit.chat for something direct (and hope someone's online who knows), or asking about it on Steemit.
Awesome, thank you @pfunk . I appreciate you chiming in here, really. And yeah, lesson freaking learned.
I tried to do the steemit.chat several times, but keep getting an internal server error.
Working at the moment, so I'll have to tackle it when I have a free moment.
@winstonwolfe - I followed your post since the beginning of the day, and I have to say - you have nothing to apologize about. First of all, you were pretty sure that you found an issue that would cost all of us money, and you did your best to get the info out to the rest of us as quickly and clearly as possible.
Second of all, I read your post. I can't think of very many users that would say 'my earnings just dropped by a thousand dollars at the last minute, but I'm not mad at the site'. Most people would have exploded over this, and spent the next week trash talking Steemit and threatening to leave. I was on my cell-phone reading at the time (so I couldn't upvote), but I would have given you an upvote for that alone.
No worries man. We are glad to have you here. You are an asset to the community and there's nothing you need to be sorry for.
Did you ever find out what caused your post to drop by so much?
And yes, I did. It was my posting habit from the previous 3 days, which is weird because I was under the impression that it was based on a 24hr time frame. Either way, I DID post like crazy on the day of the hard fork, so I'm sure that had an effect on it. In either case, I've figured out what I need to do to prevent it in the future.
Interesting. I thought it was based off a 24 hour time frame too. You should do a post on that :) I'm sure it would be useful to a lot of people :)
Honestly, I'm probably just going to take a short break from making blog posts on here for a little bit. When I do, I think I'll be refraining from posting about the workings of Steemit.
Thank you for that. The responses from you guys are making me feel tons better about this.
I guess I expected a Facebook-level backlash. LOL
You have passion and you love Steemit and want the system to be as fair and reasonable as possible. You have my respect and blessing.
Take this raccoon shaped candle and bring it to the onion master of Zargamock.
Only he can bring you true peace.
Even the mistakes lead to learning. In both this example and @lukestokes SP interest post, even when the posts were wrong I learned from the commentary from the community. Thanks to both of you.
People make mistakes and lose other's trust all the time and then we forget and trust them all over again, so don't sweat it, if they don't trust you today, tomorrow is a new day.
Mistakes happen. All we can do is learn from them. You'll be okay Winston!
