Well vintage is probably too complicated of a format. xD It has a very unique playstyle. I think modern would be the "best" format for such a tournament. But Standard/Legacy might be worth a try as well xD
I'm honestly not sure as of what the different formats mean and what their complications are. My decks are mostly cards from 2000-2008 or so I think. I stopped playing with all these ghost decks and ninjas I think.
Yeah i know. It's a really complicated thing. The formats are a hard thing. But i can try to explain the most important.
Standard: The last few sets of the last 2-3 Years are all playable. Hardly any bans because of OP cards.
Modern: Was introduced with the 8th edition because WotC realized the cards they printed were too powerful. Some banned cards because they are too strong(~20)
Legacy: Nearly all cards are playable. Just very few banned. Already pretty absurd because of all the cards.
Vintage: Pretty much every card is allowed. Even cards like the power nine, which is worth a few thousand dollars, if you want to buy them. That's why it is nearly only played digitally.

It seems that cards like http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=221808&part=Platinum+Angel are legal in all formats. I think my decks are perfectly fine, just a bit rusty 😅
