VEGAN SUSHI STEEMKITCHEN CONTEST #2

in #steemkitchen6 years ago

Kon'nichiwa steemians, cheap and cheerful is on the menu, and this is local just about anywhere. It is cheap because no meat, and cheerful because nothing had to die, unless you one of those veggie activists who think plants have feelings. It costed under 10 dollars and enough for three of us with plenty left over, midnight snacks 😁There is a bit of preparation but with everything minus waiting it takes about an hour to make.

OK so what you need aka ingredients

1 block tofu
5 SUSHI sheets
2 cups sushi rice
2 avocado
1 carrot
Half red pepper
Half cucumber
flax seed
SUSHI ginger
Japanese rice vinigar
Wasabi
Liquid smoke
Soy sause

OK food prep no. 1 is tofu, it is best to do this in the morning. grab a block of tofu.

image

Chop.

image

Place in container to marinate. Squirt some liquid smoke.

image

Then pour some soy sause.

image

Then leave it in the fridge for the day.

Then get some sushi rice, best to read instructions on the box, some vary. Then pour some sushi vinigar when rice is done, I use 50ml, I like the zing.

image

To make the fake smoked salmon grab your tofu out of the fridge, and fry in a pan.

image

Fry till golden brown and crispy.

image

Then prepare the veggies. Some interesting facts, avocado is actually a fruit and belive it or not, it is also a berry. Not all avocado's are vegan, it has to be organic due to bee exploitation for migratory pollonasation, try and say that after a couple drinks. I buy only organic, even the tofu is made from organic Soya beans, because normal Soya beans are GMO and are a cause of deforestation.

OK, enough of the serious tree hugger talk and back to the cooking, Slice everything like so.

image

Then to roll up the the sushi. First sushi sheet.

image

Dump 1 fifth of the rice.

image

Spread it evenly leaving a gap on one side.

image

Add tofu.

image

Then avo.

image

Cucumber.

image

Red pepper.

image

Carrot.

image

Then roll it like a joint, if you never rolled a joint before, you should try, great for stress relief, especially if you light it up at the end.

image

OK, so that is one type, then for the other one with seeds on it, I use flax seeds instead of sesame, it just has more antioxidant and fiber, and more omega.

I use wax paper over my sushi roller for this 1

image

Dump the rice.

image

SUSHI sheet.

image

Tofu.

image

Avo and cucumber.

image

Red pepper.

image

Roll it up.

image

Sprinkle some flaxseed on it and leave it in the fridge for an hour

image

Once out of the fridge you can cut it

image

image

Then grab a bowl, add some ginger and wasabi

image

Then add soy sause

image

Then it is just a matter of dunking sushi in the bowl and munching it.

Yuuummmm!

Not good checking food posts at this hour tho, making me hungry 😁

You need a snack while checking posts, probably why I am so chubby.

Hi there! :)

First of all, it looks brilliant and I'm certain it tastes just as!

Secondly, I am 1 of those maniacs who think plants have feelings, YET their fruits are literally made so as to be eaten, so they can reproduce - most plants rely on animals to carry out their seeds after eating them :)

I'm as crazy as to say everything has feelings, as we are all made of molecules which hold energy and have their own lifespan :)

Ah, I am sorry, if it makes you feel better, they died a humane death.

Hahaha it does :D
We should start making sacrificial rituals before we eat anything hahaha

Great post @gguy773, congrats with the @curie upvote, well deserved!

Thanks, that currie vote really took me by surprise, before work I only had 17 votes. Yeah I have family around Durban and my mother stays in Margate. I haven't been to South Africa in about 8 years, my mother always comes here to Scotland to visit. Your tin fish curry really brings back memories, my dad loves it.

his vegan sushi seems really tasty, good job!

Some interesting facts, avocado is actually a fruit and believe it or not, it is also a berry

Avocado is a fruit and a berry? That's a new one for me. Okay, the thing is I have never tried to classify it, lol! Its just food and I eat it! But it kinda fits more with being a veggie, I mean, its green, right?

Oh, berry? No way I'm gonna believe that. Lol! How are these things classified anyway? Avocados have pits or are these people classifying it just as confused as I am? Lol!

This is such a great recipe and it looks so yummy and delicious. I loved how you found something to replace the traditional salmon with tofu to fit your preference. Definitely a great one.

I am one of those people that think veggies have feelings too, these days all I take is water...😀😀😂🤣 Just kidding there...

I love that you take the subject of vegetarianism with humor, hopefully many more people did it that way. I've never tried vegan sushi, I could hardly prepare it now (some ingredients here are complicated to get) but it's good to know that it's a possibility in the near future.

Cheers

Love vegan sushi. Yours looks too good to eat! Have you ever tried making it all raw @gguy773? I make the "rice"with cashews and turnips shredded together with garlic and a dash of lemon. Delicious

This is one of my favorite dish to buy at the food stalls in malls. It's quick to prepare and work the wait. I tried different combinations of veggies and fruits into the recipe and came up with delicious results. I can agree with you on this being one of the most healthy snack alternatives.

I wish you good luck in this contest. Now that I see the recipe for sushi, I think you can make sushi with whatever you have at home. It's been like a empanada or Venezuelan arepa. you can eat it with whatever ...

Believe me or not. I have never tried the tofu or maybe yes but I do not know. It's sad not to have the same food opportunities as others ... I really liked the recipe. good luck

What a delicious vegan sushi, it looks a lot like a cousin, they call it Venezuelan sushi, its filling ingredients are banana and cream cheese.

I live in a border area with Brazil the country that invented biodiesel and therefore the exploitation of soybeans indistruliazada and transgenic in fact I had to consume against my will oil brought from there which has warning symbols with a T of transgenic and says the bacteria used for its manufacture, at least tell you that you are being killed :)

Here on the contrary is prohibited the transgenic cultivation and back in the yard I have a tree with rich and natural avocados.

I like tofu very much, with the soil to prepare cheese, I like very much the preparation and stita of your sushi you are good you have a lot of potential, thank you for opening my appetite <3

greetings, thank you for sharing your culinary publication

Thanks, yeah it is a a shame about deforestation, perhaps education is required, because not many people know about this, they think it is just logging that destroys forests.

I would love everything but the tofu. I jut do not know how you eat that, but the rest of it looks wonderful.

I saw your profile comment about low rc. So sad what this fork thing did to us....

I loved sushi before I went vegan. Then after I went vegan, I totally forgot about it. Up until one day when my husband suggested to make it at home. As usually I made a batch that would feed the whole army (that's what my husband always says) and I ate so much! I just loved it BUT I think I ate a little too much as I got sick from my stomach and spent the rest of the day in bed. Was it worth it? Absolutely! But I haven't made another batch since this 'incident'. Maybe it's time to make it :D

You roll like a pro! Or at least the final product looks very good :) I like that you use the flax seeds instead of sesame seeds. Very creative and healthy as well :)

I don't eat avocado at all as it's also the reason for deforestation and I live in a country where we don't grow them. To be honest I don't mind that much as I don't particularly like them. I do agree with you on tofu. It has to be organic :) Oh and the way you fried it! It looks delicious! I didn't use tofu in my sushi, but will have to use it in another batch.

Thank you for sharing! I'm sure it was a perfect treat :)

Thanks, the awesome part is you can almost anything in there, I used to hate avo, sushi made me change my point of view.

this is awesome! and you got a curie! WELL DONE DUDE!! and I am correct in saying you are South African?? FOLLOWED!!

Yes I am, thanks.

Howdy from Texas gguy773! this dish looks amazing, it looks exactly like the real thing! But I'd much rather trust the taste of your dish to the real thing for sure, I could fake people out with this!

This is a really cool post and well deserving of a curie so congratulatons. I've seen your name before but not sure if you go alot of food posts that I've seen?

Hi janton, we have actually texted before, I mainly do healthy plant based meals, you saw my post on lenas, you didn't know what an aubergine was, 😁, Americans call it an eggplant I think. Thanks for the kind comment

oh that's right! lol. I recognized the name but didn't know from where! very good sir, yes I had no idea what aubergine was, sounded like something exotic! well you do a lot of great food posts then, keep up the great work!

Yay! Congrats on another curie vote @gguy773! :) The sushi rolls look really good and healthy and thanks for showing us two different styles. Dip them into the soy sauce plus some wasabi, yummmm! The one with seeds outside look bigger right but same amount of rice and ingredient?

Thanks marblely, yeah it is slightly bigger I had to add more rice to roll it.

Ah no wonder it is bigger. Thank you @gguy773! Wishing you and family a great weekend :)
