SteemNova - Rebalance buildings and technologies cost

in #steemnova7 years ago

As planned on the development roadmap the first major change in the game is to rebalance cost of buildings and technologies.

obraz.png

Why is that?

The ingame formula isn't correct to online calculators like that http://www.toolsforogame.com/costes/costs.aspx
Buildings and technologies needed resources for level up is shifted by +1 level. In other words every building/tech starts from lvl 2 (but players pay for lvl 1). The difference is higher to the most expensive buildings in the game.

Changes

According to pull request such fixes did happen:

  • fixed formula for building cost
  • fixed formula for technology cost
  • fixed formula for statistics calculation
  • increase cost factor of Crystal Mine to x1.6 (already in sql script)
  • decrease cost factor of Fusion Plant to x1.8

Controversionary poll

Because of some kind of nerf for all (people spent some resources at buildings which are cheaper from now), big conversation started at Discord channel. Some players wanted to get some extra refund for this occasion, some said it is righteous to do nothing with it as everybody will lose exact percentage amount of points. This lead to 24h poll.

As seen at the picture, players divided into 2 groups. They went hazardous "All or nothing".
In this 50/50 situation @steemnova takes decisive vote to "Do nothing". It is believed the "lesser evil" has been chosen in this situation.
Explanation:

  • giving +1/+1 for everything favors bigger players. It makes them even stronger, for example:

Building 2 levels of Nanites Factory (one of the most expensive buildings in the game) should cost 3kk metal, 1.5kk crystal, 300k deuterium. In fact the strong players who built 1 level spend "only" 2kk/1kk/200k and with chosen option +1/+1 they would get second level building for free (free 1kk/0.5kk/100k of resources). That's just example for one building of one planet..

  • Nobody thought of planets capacity before the poll. Planets have maximum 163 squares for buildings. At average +17 buildings would get level up. That means planets with less than 17 free squares would be at loss.

  • Moons infrastructure. People with no infrastructure would benefit free very expensive buildings. Moon owners would get huge advantage.

  • Option to nerf every building and technology cost for all is the least invasive. Younger people can catch-up easier early adopters of this game. It is the most just for all.

As a fulfillment every account will get +50% bonus resource production for one week. This is good opportunity to get into the game before start of daily payouts scheme from 1 Apr.

The changes will happen in few hours of this statement living.

We are waiting for Steem HF20 (Hardfork 20) and "Communities". Developers promised it will come with polls option on top of the Steem blockchain. This is what SteemNova needs in crisis times.

I do not understand how this will help new players when crystal mines are not more expensive to build. For those who focus on mining first before this change they have gain plenty more than the rest.

Yeah this fix supports bug user which built a lot of cheap crystal mines like SYNCHRO..

This fix is hilarious... bye steemnova

No sense to play here...

I'll quit too...

I can see on screenshot that in poll people choosed option with +1... So why did admins decided to option 2? :(

it was 34 to 33 so it wasnt one voice, galaxy was divided, and developer make his decision.

because giving +1 to the buildings could cause that someone have more building that planet area allows him

@mys @fervi here is proof (clean 2moons version without PR with "point change calculation"):

27 LVL:
lvl 27

28 LVL:
lvl 28

Now:
28 LVL:
lvl 28

So you are still sure that only point calculation was changed?!

You are completely right, building levels were shifted by +1 too

Rebalance buildings and technologies cost
Right now buildings and technologies are too rich, compared to online calculator. In SteemNova they are shifted by +1 level. The plan is to fix formula, giving users possibility to advance +1 level of everything in the cost of already spend resources for buildings/techs.
On the other side, Crystal Mine is way too cheap. It increases its cost by factor of x1,5 instead of x1,6. Normalizing both above will approximately break even with slightly advantage towards younger universum players.

According to pull request such fixes did happen:

  • fixed formula for building cost
  • fixed formula for technology cost
  • fixed formula for statistics calculation
  • increase cost factor of Crystal Mine to x1.6 (already in sql script)
  • decrease cost factor of Fusion Plant to x1.8

According to wikia http://ogame.wikia.com/wiki/Metal_Mine
Old values were inaccurate. Buildings cost were shifted by +1 level.

This change was very unfair, especially for me. Most of my points comes from buildings and this night I lost 45% of my points... Moreover, after change I decided to cancel all buildings started before change and I got resources calculated after "bugfix"... So I lost near 12h of buildings and 50% of points.

GG

The points calculation formula was wrong.
It count earlier base_cost*2^level-1 instead of base_cost*1.5^level-1. The difference was higher for each additional building level.
Compare Your points to vanilla calculators like here
http://www.o-calc.com/?sec=_colcost&lang=en

You didn't lose any single level of building/technology/fleet unit.

OK, if it was only formula to calculate point please explain me this:

When I wanted to build Metal Mine lvl 28 I needed: Metal: 5.113.362 Cristal: 1.278.340 (before change)
Now to build Metal Mine lvl 29 I need: Metal: 5.113.362 Cristal: 1.278.340

I'm sure because I have long term plan for buildings depending on resources that I have/will have.

So it means, that if I will spent my lost 157785 points (much thanks @mys for calculation!) on ie. fleet I won't lost it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that building cost was changed too (I'm not sure about techs).

Note that players ranks changed slightly, didn't affect much their position.

I may not understand everything because I am a new player and because I'm not a game developer (yet), but I'm confident that these changes are taking the project on the right direction. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for helping the game be better.

I was kind of hoping we get +1 to tech.
Resource are kind of easy to get, expeditions and raids.
But tech research time is a major issue.
As I understand, you research time and cost was a subject to nerf aswell? Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see it being addressed.

Hey everbody

My name is marsell and I am on Rank1 in Steemnova since a long time...

LET ME WARN YOU!!!

!!! DONT WASTE YOUR TIME !!!!

!!! DONT PLAY THIS SHIT GAME!!!!!

CHEATING ADMINS
BUGUSING ADMINS
LYING ADMINS
UNFAIR AND UNBALANCED

This is steemnova...

—————-

Most people wants +1 teq but they give a fuck and fix the WHAT THEY WANT!!!!

Don’t invest time here to get fucked over!!!

Not worth it!!!!

33 wanted +1 tech and building, 32 wanted do nothing, 11 wanted +1 tech. As it is shown on this post. What you are writing here is unfair. I understend you are upset but... You are overreacting

Blabla keep talking!!!

The most people want plus one teq you hat ignore it!!

Keep talking this game is shit and will die soon

Fuck steemnova

Every +1 would boost more top players. Also even now we will have very soon all technologis do we really want to accelerate it even more?

We already payed for it, so why we can't have it? :)

No, we dont for example if you get nanit +1 you would get 1 000 000 metal for each planet.

OK, good point. But still we can increase lvl for all buildings except nanits and it will not hurt so much.

IMO this change was very unfair, especially for HIGH alliance.

so much informative..you help us to know a lot of things..thank u so much
@upvote done @steemnova
