RE: Giving up Partiko

in #steempeak6 years ago

from what I've heard this has generally had a negative, rather than a positive effect on the blockchain

Can you explain it?

Other than that, I've also experience the presence of ads and can understand your stance. It was quite sudden of a change for an app like this. I mean, the very platform it connects to is not fond of the idea of ads, they should have known...

On the other hand, Partiko is so superior in terms of UX, compared to whatever earlier Android attempts I've tried that, I can't feel hatred for them showing ads. They deserve it imho.

Either way, shoutout to @steempeak since they indeed have a service totally unmatched by anything else, even Steemit Inc.! Maybe my favorite witness since the shutdown of Utopian.

Sort:

The Partiko people won't blacklist spam, so people who spam, plagiarize, or otherwise mess around on Partiko get points like legitimate users, getting them upvotes that provide an incentive for that behavior.

The good thing is, their points are not worth that much, 1000 points $0.009 xD

Ironically this comment has got more rewards than the maximum you can get from Partiko points

Blacklists are an endless loop.

On one hand, it's not the duty of an app creator to apply any sort of blacklist, since in theorz, the community should regulate itself.

On the other hand, though, such "vendor blacklists" are an excellent way of helping it in practice.

Of course, I agree that front-end providers should never enable abuse, not even passively.

I'm not necessarily a fan of big blacklists (which is not to say I'm against them: I'm ambivalent about them, and if someone wants to use a community blacklist I'm not going to give them grief for doing so), but I do think that you should consider who you're supporting when you offer incentives.

I don't think Partiko's bad. My leaving Partiko isn't a moral stance against Partiko potentially creating issues on the blockchain, it's that I hate ads. I'm just adding it as a concern, something that Steempeak doesn't have a problem with because they're not supporting people with upvotes just for making content.
