My Steem Power Delegation Experience

in #steempower7 years ago

I've now spent a solid 7 months on this platform and I still feel like I'm still just beginning to utilize the many ways there are here to earn. I've read about people earning through delegation but I always felt that I couldn't bear to part with my beloved SP (even though it's still mine and being used by others) mostly because it affects my upvote value which also somewhat affects my curation rewards.

The snapshot below that shows my curation rewards (curation reward=Steem power earned through voting on other people's posts) for the past few days and they're a little less than I'm used to but that's a small price to pay compared to what I'm earning through delegating my steem power.

This info is available at https://steemworld.org which is also what I used to delegate my steem power.

So how did I get started on this new path to earning?

I decided to answer a call for Steem Power delegation to @isotonic to help support #runningproject. Those who'd like to learn a bit more about it can check out the link below and see what drew my interest (besides me being a runner).

https://steemit.com/utopian-io/@toofasteddie/the-rare-case-of-isotonic-or-the-creation-of-a-bid-based-voting-bot-as-a-tool-for-empowering-or-funding-a-steemit-initiative

I had this opportunity when I joined the #steemsilvergold community too but I decided to donate instead of delegate and I'll be changing that over to delegation in the next month...here's why.

With just over 6,000 Steem Power, I was getting about 1-2 SP in curation rewards per day which is nice and all, but once I started receiving benefits from my 500 SP delegation (only about 8% of my SP) I saw much greater potential through delegation. That first week I was earning close to 1 SBD per day from just that 500 SP I delegated.

I quickly decided to double down on it because that 500 SP I delegated was earning me about 2/3 the dollar value of what the other 5,000+ SP is per day was in curation rewards on an average day. So within about a week I doubled it, and then a short time later I doubled it again.

This doesn't mean you can't make good money curating...I've seen some people report pretty good earnings through curation. But I've played around with different curation strategies, timing my votes, etc. for a few months now and not found great rewards in it. I know it's partly due to the fact that the SBD is way higher than it was ever intended to be but even before SBD spiked I never earned more than about 2 STEEM per day through curation.

So now with 2K SP delegated, I'm earning over 2 SBD per day some days which is much more than the other 2/3 of my steem power that I use for voting earns me in curation rewards on any day.

I plan to delegate 1,000 to @silvergoldbotty (a.k.a. STAX) which is tied to the #steemsilvergold community in the month of March which will leave me with about a 50/50 mix of delegated and held steem power.

As for my upvote value dropping, I don't mind it so much now. I've mostly been trading my SBD earnings for more STEEM and powering it up so that vote value will go up gradually.

I'd like to thank @toofasteddie and @yabapmatt (Matt is a witness on Steemit and he's got one of my witness votes already) for putting together this opportunity through @isotonic and @runningproject. This is what led me into what turned out to be a great benefit for me and others as well--DELEGATION!

Great information dear , I am always with you. Please help me , Where is my delegated sp from stem , Is it fake or not . Please see this photo and help , what is the meaning of itCapture.JPG

It's not fake, all accounts require a certain amount of SP to be able to use the blockchain. You can either pay for that SP directly or if you sign up through SteemIt.com then SteemIt, Inc will pay for your account by delegating to it from the @steem account.

I didn't even see your reply there before I started typing lol. Thanks for taking care of that Matt :)

Whenever someone opens a new account I think a certain amount of SP gets delegated to that account so the vote is worth something. That's steem power that's been delegated to you. It usually starts out being worth around $0.01 or at least that was the case when I first joined and before I bought more steem and powered it up.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

Isotonic was my first jump into delegation too. But today I took a look at at how my initial delegation was working out and I then did two things. I upped my delegation to isotonic, and began delegating to @minnowsupport. I haven’t done any serious numbers on it, but I’m guessing there is a sweet spot as to how much one ought to be delegating. I guess it depends on your other activity, and at this point I’m leaning toward delegation.

Yes I'm planning on balancing my steem power so half is delegated and half is kept for voting power. I thought about delegating 2/3 out but maybe I'll do that after a month or so of having 1/2 my SP out for delegation and see what the returns are like.

I'll have to try out @minnowsupport and see what their returns are like. I know not every voting service pays the same returns so i look forward to experimenting with this further.

Actually, minnowsupport doesn’t pay returns. But you get automatically upvoted on anything you post. So it’s just to support the project.

Thanks for taking the time to write up a delegation update. I'm trying to learn more as a new user and am running into challenges learning how to acquire steem power. I feel like I'm stuck curating content and taking part in silly photo hunt challenges to build up SBD/STEEM. By chance would you have any other recommendations on how to generate content that provides value and become noticed?

It's very hard to get noticed when you're new here. It takes time and patience. There is one way to build up STEEM that's 100% effective if you can afford to invest....that's what I did to get the majority of my Steem. It was only about a dollar when I bought the majority of it.

Short of buying it, using services like @minnowbooster can help you get noticed and start earning a bit faster. Getting started here is different for everyone so be patient and just try to learn as much as you can. Keep writing, read other people's articles and comment like you have here. I've found that comments can earn a surprising amount as long as they're genuine replies to the post and not just a few words copied and pasted as a reply on many different posts (spam--we try and discourage that).

Here's a good post for new users and it doesn't cover everything (a post that covers everything would be like a novel) but it has some good info and another good link in it. Hope this helps.

Dear friend, thanks for all the good you are providing to @runningproject .

I am very happy that @isotonic satisfies your expectatives .I am also planning to increase my delegation to @isotonic as soon as I will be able to.

It really is providing good returns to me and I hope it's helping the community as well. I'll continue to promote it as I have been doing. Always nice to hear from you Eddie!

Thats interesting I delegate to a few groups I am in but didnt know of other options when I grow a bit more it should be something I look into

Hi @cryptokeepr!
Mmmmh have to consider SP delegation.
In the last weeks I found a nice curation-strategy... doing 1-1.5 SP a day with only 2730SP.
Thanks for your post!
Big hug

That's a pretty good curation return for that amount. That's about what I was averaging per day when I was holding twice that amount of SP. Congrats on finding a good strategy with curation! I've played around with it for a few months and had some mixed results.

Always good to hear from you Lucas and Steemitri!

As a relative newbie to SteemIt (joined in January 2018) that is really interesting.

One question I have - what is the best way to increase SP? You talk about having thousands to delegate but I'm still struggling to pay off the initial Steem delegation of 15, let alone have some to delegate.

Remember that you can always recover it... Delegation is a good way to earn if you are not so active in the steem blockchain but if you are so, you should consider to use the maximum SP you have just for upvoting process

Honestly I bought a lot of what I have between September and November of 2017 when STEEM was relatively cheap (about (3/4 of what I have I bought). I was also very active and posted once a day my first two months here and also commented on a lot of other people's posts, which got me a little bit of earnings and some people came and checked out and voted on my posts...the key to success, or part of it, is genuine interaction with other people and a lot of patience. I know a lot of people don't have thousands of dollars to throw into a risky asset like a crypto currency too so it can be hard and take longer for some to acquire.

Thanks, that's helpful to know. Sounds like I'm doing the right things and just need to be patient.

I'm hoping my #RunYourMile idea will create some engagement.

I don´t have SP enough to Delegate in a significant way, but I´m definitely interested in starting delegating some SP in a near future.
Steem Power Delegation is probably the best way to get some SP and the most profitable way.

It has been the best passive way to earn that I have found in my time here honestly. But one does need to have a certain amount before it's worth doing. If you have less than 500 SP I'd recommend holding onto it to keep the value of your vote at a certain level.

Ye! I'm definitely below that number, and for that reason I haven´t tested any way to delegate SP.
But it´s good to know that it is profitable, one of the best ways to earn income without having to do much.

Thank you so much for sharing, sir. This steemit system is a bit complicated for the newbies to understand and here I am trying to learn as much as I can. Different strategies etc are there on the platform.

There's a lot of different strategies to earn here so take your time. It's a lot to learn and can be overwhelming at first but it will start to make more sense the more you read posts by authors who've been around awhile. I've been here 7 months and I'm no expert.... I still learn something new more days than not.

Run often. Run long. But never outrun your joy of running.

Remember to vote your Running Author of the week!

Good information
Now i still not delegate my steem
Because i have not enough yet

Yes it's better to wait until you have a significant amount (at least 500-1000) to start delegating and seeing good returns from it. You'll get there eventually my friend :)

Thank you guy

yes, this promote value, giving but never lacking. happy giving for you broo..

nice content, i loving the way pointed out your concept, it was sooo magical, thank you

Go ahead man !

You have received an upvote from STAX. Thanks for being a member of the #steemsilvergold community and opting in (if you wish to be removed please follow the link). Please continue to support each other in this great community. To learn more about the #steemsilvergold community and STAX, check this out.

Very helpful info, thank you. It's a steep learning curve as a minnow, but it's good to keep things like delegation in mind for the future when I (hopefully) accumulate more SP :)
