What is @steemStem?
@steemSTEM is an amazing community that is promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics on the STEEM blockchain.
They curate all the STEM-related tags as well as their own steemstem tag, rewarding scientists who write about their work and other recent advancements in high-quality, interesting posts.
Their primary goal is to bring (and also keep) new scientists and passionate minds to STEEM through a friendly and helpful environment while promoting legitimate, original content.
Not enough funding
The project has existed for a long time now (1.5 years) and has gotten by with only minimal funding.
The community management team delegates a share of their SP to the account and so far it has acquired less than 25k SP. I feel it's such a shame for a community, so friendly and beneficial to Steem, to be so underfunded. The management team is putting in full-time effort and takes almost nothing for themselves.
As we speak, the SteemSTEM community is growing exponentially, expanding its staff - currently at 17! - across multiple languages, all without increasing support to match:
10.000 SP Delegation
I decided that something needed to be done, so I powered up 10k SP and delegated them to steemSTEM.
Afterwards, I noticed that the post about the @steemSTEM meetup generated a lot of support. Which is amazing!
We all seem to care about the steemSTEM community and what it does, but sadly the long-term support is missing.
@steemSTEM needs your support
If you are a whale and want to support a quality community on STEEM, which:
promotes Steem in the science community
brings in long-term users to STEEM (and keeps them coming back!)
supports a wide range of quality authors
And does all that with passion and love
Then please - delegate to @steemSTEM:
@buildteam already decided to match my 10k SP delegation with another 10k SP. And I believe, you can do the same!
The SBD from this post will be converted to STEEM and powered up to the steemSTEM account.
hey mate,
pardon if this is a bit off topic…
I made a post today regarding a large-scale idea to advance Steem’s development, aiming to get this in front of the audience who’d be in the position to do something with/about it, and it was recommended to share with the witnesses:
The $1 Billion Steem Development Fund: How Steemit Inc.'s Stake Could Be Best Allocated To Grow A Thriving Network Of Applications And Users...
would be great if you could have a read, and IF you feel it’d be a great idea that’d serve the community, forward to anyone in particular you know who might be in a position of influence to advance the discussion.
either way, I thank you for your continued service to this community. 🙏
cheers,
Rok
Am checking it out now @rok-sivante
Just added another 4k SP :)
Thank you! I hope that you won't be the only one :)
That is very generous from you! Thanks 4000 times, from all our crew ;)
Man you are crazy
That's a great commitment in every way for whole steemstem community, hopefully now more of the community will get rewarded for their hard worked on content without steemstem losing much power.
Steemit is always all about helping the community in need and that's what brings us close.
I'm just a beginner here trying to get the grip of everything here so I'm not the one who can add on anything yet but let's see what the future holds for me, I'll help out everyone in need.
more power to you guys. We newbies really need a direction and motivation to keep going. While i don't have a big amount to support however will delegate 50% of my SP to show my support to this project
God bless you @ausbitbank
On behalf of the entire steemSTEM crew (at least I guess :p), I am 10000 times grateful for what you did for STEM on STEEM! And also for what you are currently doing ;)
Well if this onboards 10 million scientists and steem goes to the moon, is was not completely altruistic ;)
The work you all do is phenomenal and I hope my small stake can help you a bit!
As I like to say, we are just a bunch of people who try to do some good. I think fostering science and technology on STEEM is a way to do that, both within the platform, but also on a larger scale (when we target the long term).
The steemSTEM community is also the first community I have ever seen on the web with some many people from so much different horizons, sharing the same interests, etc. People are probably all attracted by the money (who is not?), but they stay around not only because of our (warm) welcome, but also because the steemSTEM initiative motivates them to engage with each other, support each other. Funnily enough, they actually do it! The chat is a kind of proof to this statement.
This being said, I am so happy to see how things evolved during the last 18 months, even if, as you said, the amount of work is tremendous (especially with the exponential growth of the last month).
I can confirm that. The people from the chat are feeding each other with support, like giving advice for the writing as well as exchanging thoughts for topics - also we goof around, which definitely is needed at times.
I got a lot of inspiration through the chats as well as through the comment sections either on my own or under other authors articles. As I got so much support, encouragement, constructive critique I would like to encourage others who still are not aware of the STEM-community. Also, I try to be at service for other authors to come up with themes which have something to do with their professions and probably are of interest to do research and writings.
Thank you 1 Gazillion times @reggaemuffin for your engagement! (I thought to use even a higher number, @lemouth) :-)
I was keeping the huge number for a million SP delegation :D
You are of course right, the intensity of the interactions on the chat, between the people, is amazing. I am so happy to witness that, if I can you that verb here ;)
I guess you've set them on a path to the moon, a little more from magnanimous ones like you and they could be going to Mars
My hope is that @ned delegates one million SP like he did for other projects. That would make it really moon :)
Even if it's like 50k or 100k it still would do a lot - Great job that you delegated 10k! :)
I really hope he's watching and reading, many projects are begging to soar, this one will of course spur other people too.
Definitely agreeing on that one ;)
I am impressed honestly. Though this post is like 5months old now but I do appreciate reading it and what someone so considerate did. Thank you for this great post and what you did @reggaemuffin
Steemstem I see is amazing I see some awesome post like @suesa science posts they are always awesome, and I see the steemstem upvote and I wonder support is needed for #steemstem, you have done so well here, I swear, you manual curation had helped lives even the auto is making it happen for some peeps here in my country,
You do need support, and with all my body and spirit and so I offer it, I've voted you buddy @reggaemuffin I'm so happy for this delegation I will be glad to show my support even more, if it's needed,
You're a blessing to this community to the small and the great, you make a difference, thank you again, I'd hope to do big things with you.🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Yep we've had users spending months making good quality posts on their phones finally buy a laptop with the money they've worked hard to earn in the steemSTEM community, the fact that we can change lives with an honest day's work is something great Steemit continues to provide, and we want to be an ever-growing part of that ^__^
Well #steemstem has been very consistent I with amazing content, they deserve every delegation they get, @reggaemuffin just pulled me away from my comfort zone with joy, as a result of this gesture
Thank you for everything @reggaemuffin! It's the best feeling to know we have altruistic supporters out there such as yourself =D Cheers to opportunities!
I really appreciate what you deed ,that is really kind of you. I am a graduate from the faculty of life science, so happy for such a platform, it will give me the opportunity to show case my research. Giving steemSTEM such amount of SP show that the future of steemSTEM is bright. I would love to support this platform , but my level of SP is not yet significant for now, when my sp is significant i will definately support. If there is any other way i can contribute please let me know.
You should join us on the discord channel and start using the steemSTEM tag for any related posts you write ^__^. If you are new to it all we're often happy to help improve (providing we have the time of day since half of the team basically work 2 full time jobs)!
@steemstem is indeed one of the best communities on the platform. When I write something it's usually about science and most of these post are curated by the team. It is really a big help for me and I know that it's the same for most people who writes about science. Thanks for sharing this @reggaemuffin. More power to you and to @steemstem! I hope more big fishes will do the same. Stay awesome guys. :D
Thanks a lot for your nice words! It is really appreciated (as much as your nice contributions to the steemstem tag ;) ).
Because things like this I love that I voted for you as a witness!
@Steemstem is a really important project and I hope it will get more exposure and more funding.
How are they getting new authors to Steemit? what are they doing in order to reach the people who have knowledge on this niche?
My technique... When I make a nice post related to a subject that could interest one of my scientist friends or an ex collaborator, I email the link and ask my friend for feedback. I do not talk about Steemit, just send the link. For sure he or she notices the nice little number with the $ sign at the end of the post, triggering his interest...
I did this with my post on clathrate stars. my friend was intrigued by the site, he is a research director in French public research with strong entries to grand equipment (ESRF, LURE, ILL etc...) ... always good to have someone like this on board, so I hope he will look into it (and maybe his team ;-)). On my side, I will definitely introduce him to Steemit and SteemSTEM.
Ohhhhh smart! That is pretty sneaky. I really like that technique ^^
I will have to think about that. Maybe just advertising my blog and wait for the backfire would do better in terms of user attraction ;)
We talk with each other. For instance, I am advertising steemSTEM and STEEM a lot within my work, though colleagues. People are still reluctant to join for various (sometimes good) reasons, but once in a while, one person is coming. I am confident that in the future, they will massively join. I am nevertheless a patient person :)
Thank you @lemouth for the explanation. You're doing great work.
If scientists hear about a platform where they can talk about their work and earn more than minimum wage on it? Word of mouth alone will bring many on. Visiting the LHC with steem tags everywhere will spark interest. And since the science community is interconnected, everyone can bring their friend on.
Most journals you pay for the right to publish. Here you are paid. Being a welcoming and supportive community like steemSTEM means the users come on their own, one small nudge to tell them it exists is mostly enough.
I like to say particle physics is an exception here. All our major journals are open access (our community is actually paying for that). I wrote about it in the past but I can't find the post right now (maybe it was a comment to some post).
Got it.
thanks!
We provide the financial means for good science content creators to proudly share their work on the site. In the past, when I showed something I did here, people would comment..."there? Look around at the garbage that passes for science there..." Then they wouldn't take another look. That doesn't happen anymore, thanks to the work by the steemSTEM project we don't have that visibility issue. The content that trends here is vastly improved, people aren't afraid to produce work here because good material is valuable. Good material can get noticed.
So while the project isn't actively going out and grabbing new authors (yet) we are bringing people here, as people are bringing others they know (I get messages about friends of community members intro posts pretty regularly) so what we are doing IS working. You can see it in the growth of authors supported.
@justtryme90 alright, I got it now. I'm going to try and get new people that fit the steemSTEM project. I have a couple of ideas in mind.
There are a lot of students Facebook Pages in Israel and some pages + groups that fit the niches - Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
And I know almost every FB page owner on Facebook Israel. ( some of these specific niches not all of them, but I'm 100% sure they know who are the rest owners )
I can chat with the owners and introduce them to Steem in general and steemSTEM in particular and maybe they'll post about it on their FB page. and maybe I'll purchase 1 or more page on these niches, I'm looking for pages to purchase anyway.
I'll update.
That would be great :)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if payouts are high regardless of total viewers, then aren't current authors without whale-sized shares of steem incentivized to not tell anyone about steemit, because they view new authors as potential competitors for the reward pool? This is not only applicable to steemstem, but I can see how it can potentially stymie the growth of steemit if others view it this way and act accordingly.
I am not so sure, as a growth in the platform may be associated with a growth in the value of STEEM as well. I think there is not that feeling of competition within steemstem. At least I haven't felt it so far.
I love what you're doing. Hopefully, other whales decide to do the same. I try to go over as much steemstem related stuff as possible and curate it manually.
You can also follow the steemstem trail if you want, and if you trust us of course ;)
Is it possible to follow the trail only when your VP reaches a certain threshold, say >90%?
Everything is possible. Please contact us on discord :)
This is an excellent initiative @reggaemuffin. I currently only have around 130 SP myself, and I am actually looking to receive delegate SP myself as I focus on finding content that is undervalued in the cryptocurrency space - a space that I find is clouded with a few very high profile Steemians and has a tough barrier to entry.
I try and find high content value posts, with a low monetary value and upvote them, as even though my upvote is worth very little, the hope is that it will be worth more as I grow and continue to do the same. I am also running a blog series at the moment with a focus on bringing in new people and retaining them on Steemit, by showing them exactly what I do to earn upvotes on my content and how I positively contribute to the community.
I can't commit to delegate to @steemSTEM at the moment, but coming from an engineering background, I would really like to. When my account reaches 5K SP I will delegate 1K, and when it reaches 20K SP I will try to delegate 10K if there are no other community projects that I have delegated to.
Thanks for sharing this post, hopefully some people with a lot of SP will delegate some. Best of luck @steemSTEM!
This is a really impressive delegation for such an important community on this platform. It will go a long way in rewarding quality posts. As we are all aware that Science is a universal language and steemStem is one of those communities with different groups with great like minds. Everything is alive there just like the steemitchat where every one relates the same and have fun.
Good work @reggaemuffin
That is so nice of you. I didn't know this community exist. Just imagine if someone starts posting science or math related tutorials here and they get started appearing in google search this could bring a lot of traffic and new users.
We agree! Science drives a lot of traffic on the internet. We want to drive that traffic to steemit.
Great initiative. I've delegated 10k SP also. Thanks for the heads-up.
Thank you so much @xeldal! You will never witness 10k being used so effectively as we will! This growth is gonna be something amazing thanks largely to you ^__^
Do we have a share that you get delegated power authority free up to one day
He can undelegate at any time, as owner of his SP. Why do you want him to undelegate, if I can ask?
It is great all you did with delegating steem power to SteemSTEM. Once I get some, it will be honor to delegate few hundreds, even thousands to the account. Keep doing good, reggae. Best wishes, Sveto :P
We will be waiting for you... mwhahahaha
What a great idea. Thank you for bringing this to light, @reggaemuffin, and thank you for your support of the project. I'm a long way from being a whale, but I believe even small delegations are important, too, so I will prioritize my own next delegation round to steemSTEM.
Thanks a lot! This is very kind of you!
This is great news, @reggaemuffin! The @steemstem team is doing so much great work, and I really hope more people are willing to support them in the future. I really hope @ned or the Steemit Inc. team delegates some for them at one point!
More scientists and people who are interested in science would be great for the platform as a whole, and upvoting us who write science content is of course a big motivation to keep making good science content! We already have lots of skilled content creators here, but I would not mind even more science content posted here regularly :)
There is indeed never too much good content anywhere :)
Hehe, that's a good point!
wow thats awesome I am scientist . I was thinking that science has very limited scope in steemit but after reading to this now I think it will be great something that will support even science education and science advancement.
I will be now posting about science before I did but now I can do it freely and I will be able to tell others that this community is not just about crypto currency and business but also education and science is supported. THANKS for sharinfg @reggaemuffin
I believe that I will get more informative posts from you .. You got me as your new follower too
Definitely join the discord: https://discord.gg/YhU9ZXK
There you will find many like minded steemians :)
wow thanks... I am really thankful to you!
Don't hesitate to use the steemstem tag. This will help us to find you :)
sure... I will I was looking for something like that
You and some really good people like @suesa and co have really been doing alot for this community. I won't lie there are really low sp in the community. I was introduced to the community by @suesa and I've been impressed by what I've seen lately. As a microbiology undergraduate, I have so much to offer to the steemstem community and steemit in general and this kinda delegation will do alot in encouraging newbies like me to write quality science post. Thanks @reggaemuffin
We do as much as we can with what we have. We always did! :)
That's really nice from you. Steemstem is one of the most dedicated communities, more dedicated, with consistent quality and it would be nice seeing in the future more resources to help people with PhDs to have a nice extra source of community and income. Particularly now that funding for PhD students is gonna get a big cut in many places of the world.
Thanks a lot for your warm message :)
@reggaemuffin that is good becuase other commuities work on differenf projects like Utopian for opensource and there are multiple commuities and in technology I think this is only one commuity thats really good tu boost up quality content on these tags so I'm not a whale or doplhan so here is my contribution my upvote with you 😊
Hi! I found you and this post and then found the amazing SteemStem because of it (I am a STEM grad also). I just came across a post of yours from 8 months ago about resteeming community for newbies. Are you still involved in that? Also, any tips on which of these groups or things are more about pump than actual content and discussion, so I can avoid them? Muchas gracias !!
Probably best to srick to steemSTEM at the moment. I honestly don't remember any resteem groups that I participated in, most resteem services are pretty useless in my opinion.
Yeah , it seems they just resteem to a large yet empty audience :/
what a kindhearted man of you sir @reggaemuffin velimir is right you are a nice guy.. thats why i upvoted you as a witness.. hope my 400+ sp will be back soon from dmania to delegate it to steemstem.it's not that much but the way you talk about steemstem on steemit science are very interesting.
So why not? thanks for sharing this sir @reggaemuffin
Thanks a lot! We are grateful to anyone who contribute in one way or the other (and there are plenty of ways to contribute).
indeed, there is nothing to lose if you can help plenty of creative people.
Upvoted, and resteem later or tomorrow for maximum reach. A thank you is not enough :)
Good post I follow :P
Jokes aside, THANK YOU so very much!! People's hard work and science-craze need that kind of encouregement and support! We are grateful! :D
OMG you have a great heart of helping Steemit grow.
This is what most whales should be doing.I also got delegated 1000SP to help curate content from our growing Uganda community.
Thank you all guys who give us this Steem Power.I am glad i voted you for witness sometime back.
Thanks again for the great work helping out communities.
SteemSTEM is my most favorite project on the whole of steemit to date. In the near feature I am going to do quite a few live life photography editing broadcasts and a banner of SteemSTEM will sure be shown there in oder to draw more attention to the great community. ☺
Those SteemSTEM destilled posts. 😮❤️
Take care!
t.
Thanks for your nice message!@ We are looking forward to see your future results :)
@reggaemuffin you are doing great and have shown a great commitment and support for STEM.
I strongly believe in this project I'll commit myself to making it work. Your upvote on a comment on my post by @steemSTEM via @steemstem-bot made me to visit your blog. This is indeed a demonstration of strong commitment towards the promotion of science. Although I'm less than a month old on Steem but with time I will be able to delegate my sbd, mark my words.
It's really awesome that you are doing this!
waaaawww..
10K SP your delegate for @steemstem.
you have full expectations if one day @steemstem can grow better and have a good contribution in this steemit community.
I support you, if I have more SP I will also participate like you. @reggaemuffin
Don't we already bring a good contribution to STEEM? :/
That's awesome @reggaemuffin! Steemstem has been such a huge supporter for my mycology blog - and so great at what they're trying to achieve across steemit - that I currently delegate a third of my SP to them. It's awesome to see the project really revving into the steemit mainstream these last couple of months and your delegation is definitely a big step forward!
Looking forward to seeing you at CERN!
And your contribution is warmly appreciated! :)
Honestly, hats of to you. Your work for steemSTEM will be remembered by me though it may not mean much, and I will look forward in the future in giving some of my steem towards the platform itselfs; in hopes of cultivating it.
It is incredibly important to grow this platform in this day where the education motive is now stemming (<great pun) away from proper STEM. While this may not be true for all boards of education; there is a lot if misinformation on the internet produced by tabloids and ill informed people.
Motivation by a larger reward for many users will hopefully inspire many more people towards making more scientifically correct posts. Which is what we should all strive for reward pool or not.
In the end I want to tell you for being an incredible samaritan, and gifting the community such an enormous donation. I'm gonna drop this link into my google doc where I'm prepping my next post to help you get a bit more recognition; even I may not be able to get you that much :) Have a nice day
Every single contribution is always appreciated, whatever it is. :)
Is there any way you contribute (other than posts) without contributing any SP to the steemstem community, mostly asking for the small people like me.
You can trail the steemstem account. This will bring you some curation rewards and you will automatically vote for anyone we support. If you are interested, please contact @anarchyhasnogods on the chat. He is the bot-master :D
how to delegate steem?? sounds good idea,, i will do more research
You can use steemconnect, among others :)
thnk u mate i will
You are so helpful.. Steem on
Reading this post and also the comments of much more very generous SP-delegators really makes me happy about how the entire STEEM community appreciates the work of its STEEMstem - part.
Thanks to all of you! :)
This post is great I've seen this explanation for jerry banfield, but he does not usually answer questions
I really think the subject matter is important and responds to it
I have a question that minimizes the value of vote power for example that you have 3$ vote power Will this diminish the value of you?If you convert it to someone else?
Thank you for the Great Post reggaemuffin
No, you do not lose anything by voting for someone else. Your vote power goes down but it recovers over time. Your money is not transferred by voting.
Thank you justtryme90 for this comment :) and i have follow you now
It doesn't diminish your current account value, but it does impact your potential earnings, currently a mix of self-voting/circular voting is among the most profitable of strategies on steemit which is why so many short-sighted whales and smaller account holding users do it.
thats a great
i am new in steem family but I will donate steem power or sbd after growing my account.
thanks for our support .
it's inspiring me.
M a physicist...Never knew of @steemstem... Gonna check it out and thanks for your support. The community needs more folks like you
wow cool thinks dear sir... really so helpfull post, you are right beacuse @steemSTEM is an amazing community that is promoting science, technology, engineering and mathematics on the STEEM blockchain... @reggaemuffin
Hello @reggaemuffin nice to meet you. SteemStem is a great project for all of those who posts about science, mathematics. Here I want to start with these posts as @studentoftheyear please support me for my best posts. Namaste!
I know that what you do as an engineer is very important. And I thank you guys. Thanks to the help and support of people like you, science and this page will make more progress and strengthen. I'm new to Steemit. Unfortunately there is not enough Steem Power to do it. But I want to make this page and science for the whole day. Thank you again very much. I'm going to let more people see this post. I hope it's useful. @reggaemuffin
thank @reggaemuffin for your delegation, iam really proud of such people like u on steemit, thanks for the extra effort sir.my prayers are with you
You are a very helpful person. It's a beautiful thing. helping people, such communities that have informed us need more support. Thanks for sharing. Resteemed and upvote this post. @reggaemuffin
Ser @reggaemuffin i don’t have a lot of steem.. so i couldn’t do it ?
I wish I could do the same, I want to follow you in this way, but unfortunately I do not have huge amount and sp right now.
Cool. I don't write about science though and I don't have that much SP. :P I did delegate 1k to minnowsupport. Maybe I'll put some elsewhere too.
Thanks @reggaemuffin for your supports to good initiatives
A very good community thanks for the information
I am glad to know that! It is a great step to support their project and give them a chance to be more visible. Also it will give them the chance to support many good authors. Bless you!
