What a big question....
Especially on the STEEM blockchain!
Value is subjective when it comes to content, and someone's gold may be another's trash...
So I'm taking a different approach with my opinion on 'What is value?'
fantastic post he made earlier today. In the post he asked...Both stakeholders and Steemit users...What adds value to Steem? This was the question asked by top witness @timcliff in a
I'll do my best to give my opinion to that question and share my experiences on 'attempting' to deliver value on the blockchain every day over the past 6 months.
I hope this does..Add value to the question and helps you deliver value as well to this amazing opportunity and platform!
As always, I will UPVOTE and respond to every comment that adds value to the discussion!

Great Vlog @jongolson I ama new member to Steemit & DTube. Been about a week now and I havent posted my first official post yet but I have been very active in comments as I get a feel for the community. Bringing value can mean many things are you giving advice that will benefit someone, are you posting content that is relevant and/or is your content entertaining? All these things bring value. For me videos like this are providing huge value to me as I learn about these platforms and what the best practices are before just posting wildly. I am excited to start sharing my videos with you all. Time for some quality Entertainment on the Steemit and Dtube!
Question to everyone here, How long did it take you to get the feel for Steemit & DTube and any advice for a Newbie on Steemit & DTube besides #value
It took me a few few weeks to really start to "get it" although, I must confess, I am still "getting it".... Lol!
I think one of the important lessons that I learnt early on, and it seems like you have also grasped this already, is that comments are one of the best ways to build your network and community on this platform. Because the reality is, to start blogging as a newbie on this platform, very few, if any, readers are going to find you - this is true for any blogs on any other platforms to be fair. So I would carry on as you're doing right now and make genuine and useful comments by adding to other people's posts. I would encourage you to add maybe a post of your own each day if poss as readers will inevitably come and check out your profile to see if it would be good to follow you (and if there's nothing there, then you are unlikely to get a follow..! ).
^^^ And what Steve said :)
Awesome! Welcome to the blockchain and thanks very much for the comments.
The big thing for me...is daily action and interaction. If that would be the biggest advice I would give...It would be that.
Lots of people are excited when they join but see how exited they are in a month or two without any support from the whales. It get be a let down.
Trick is to use this as social media and interact daily. Don't worry about the rewards. They will come but after the relationships have been built!
Thanks to you and Steve that is useful advice from the both of you. Yes I noticed off the bat with my just commenting and exploring how powerful it is. Just released my first post (Introduction)
The great thing is I was producing content around performing arts and distributing regularly on multiple platforms as my goal is to create awareness my passion, something that changed my life for the good. The fact I could earn some decent money off this in the long run is just a bonus. I think in order to produce the quality content it is also about loving what you do and what you are posting about.
Absolutely!
If you don't love what you do, you will quit real quick.
The passion has to be there first and the action will supply itself :)
That's so true. I've seen a ton of stuff about the Steem Monsters cards which I think is good because people are genuinely super excited about a product/app/service (not sure exactly what to call it) built on the Steem blockchain.
And for sure, many people come for the rewards, and complain when they don't get quick results. But if they could see the big picture, and have a long-term vision for what Steem provides, then they would know the value in what we have here. But you're absolutely right that we should be the ones providing value here. Steem owes us nothing... technically.
Absolutely. We aren't owed a thing here and if we started putting 'community' first, I think everyone wins! From planktons to the big whales :)
Value is such a large scope... :) As you pointed out it is an opinion... What can you do for the Blockchain? Not what can the Blockchain do for you! For me... providing content for others to see and engaging in the conversation. A conversation is a 2 way street! A lecture is a one way conversation! :)
I agree 100000%. It's got to be a two way street. That's the beauty of all social media platforms...Discussions. Debates. But communication!
Is there such a percent... LOL... yes communication is the key! Building relationships... :)
Hey @jongolson, thanks for the shout out!
You're absolutely right that engagement is key here. Adding value to conversations through comments and the upvoting of comments will build community.
It's easy to forget that steemit sees no difference between posts and comments - they are both of equal value and sometimes there's as much, if not more, value to be found in the subsequent comment thread than the original post.
I think as a newbie on this platform, it is critical to grasp this point and to start building relationships through (genuine) comments and you might even get an upvote reward for your efforts along the way. A win-win. Also, maybe consider expanding on a comment through a separate post (exactly as you have done here) and link to the original source to again "add value to the blockchain". (You're less likely to run out of content ideas too using this approach and you're more likely to be creating for an audience if you're building on someone else's post). This creates a web of linked content that readers can consume and learn from as little or as much as they would like (=value).
Again, cheers for the shout out and a fab summary video on an important topic.
HUGE!
You know, I was thinking...The way we connected was through a common love of books and then replying and commenting on each others posts. Nothing forced. Just a similar interests. And when that happens....The genuine comments appear!
Yes, that's right. There was a mutual interest and its gone on from there.
It helped that we were at a similar stage here and our accounts have grown since (although yours much faster than mine!). So we went from tipping each other (our max vote of) $0.01 to around $0.10+ now and that growth will no doubt continue.
I think that's another point to remember - try to surround yourself with like minded people who are committed and you can support each other and grow together.
So true man. That's how the whales support each other. They all started around the same time and grew together,
That's why I beg new Steemians to get out there and interact with everyone they can now lol
Good one and its an interesting topic, I think you're right about one mans gold is another man's trash or vice versa, I find great value in the eco system of steemit and all the awesome people that share thier content on the platform. Then there is the dapps, the value is hard to measure and what is value anyway...? The way I see it is like this, if I can make someone smile or offer assistance in any way, to improve thier business or lifestyle then I have delivered value. #steemitvalue Great Topic and I always get great value from your posts and the free training inside bitcoinbully is just priceless in terms of the value given and it's not like you charge a membership fee or anything, so it means people who say "I don't have money to invest" can still invest by investing in themselves and in thier own education which can also help them improve their steem knowledge.
I think i should check out this Bitcoin Bully :)
For sure. it's a journey right....And part of my journey here is to 'hopefully' deliver value by sharing my experiences and documenting my adventures LOL I'm picking things up along the way that some people may find to be garbage LOL
i agree with you 100% more and more people need to move away from the "me me me" mentality.
Absolutely. And it's hard for a lot of newer Steemians simply because of the lure of...'Getting paid to blog'. It's a great marketing message but doesn't capture the true essence of this platform. Giving back, helping others and engagement...Much better way to angle the approach :)
We do need to have a definition for value if we expect to create it.
That's the problem I think a lot of people might end up having...What is value? My definition might be different than yours that's why I wanted to make sure I said 'my opinion' because God knows...I'm wrong more times than i am right LOL
You're right on the money: Community is key
