"It's no good, I can't do this." Three days out from Maple and the strain was showing on Guzzi's face. "Put me in cold storage." The plea in his voice was unmistakable.
Jazz nodded, and Sapphire began to cry.
Guzzi tried to smile though the renewed emotional onslaught. "I'm gunna try and get some sleep." He kissed Sapphire on the top of her head and left the crew lounge.
What choice do we have?" Jazz asked. "He's going to be no use to us like this, assuming we ever get anywhere near the entombed."
Schmeep Gar. There is an alternative. The Garship sentiences and the Gar had always shared telepathic connections.
What, alternative, Sentinel?
The Sentients have studied the brain energies of the Heraphore and the human. The Sentients believe we can provide an alternative solution. The sentients understand the energies of the Heraphore. The Sentients can mute them within a limited environment.
Within this Garship, Sentinel?
Yes, Schmeep Gar.
Schmeep spoke: thirty tonnes of gravel sliding down a rock face. A moment later the translator was active. "Pass me some tequila," said the Gar. I believe there are some celebrations to be had."
The Garship finished its jump in the middle of a Maroider fleet. Almost immediately the fleet began to reposition itself to face the new threat - or perhaps opportunity.
The old earth word marauder had been appropriated by humans who built their entire culture around asteroid piracy. Centuries later, Maroiders were were not uncommon in human space.
"We are going die!" exclaimed Sapphire.
"Watch the screen," said Schmeep Gar as the screen in the middle of the room scaled out: The Garship sat in the middle of a maroider fleet. The scale was further reduced, and suddenly a number of ships appeared close to the star in the centre of the system and laid a course towards the fleet. And they were moving fast. "We are not going to die."
The surrounding ships began firing an assortment of colourful energy weapons at the Garship. "Well maybe not."
"I don't believe it," said Jazz. " You weren't lying. There are actually other Garships out there..."
"Yes," said Schmeep Gar. "Yes there are. And it's time to dance."
