Nailed It!
Just a few days after I wrote my VanMoof PowerBank review I was out on one of my daily rides and I felt a slight pop, heard a flap, flap, flap, and then it suddenly got a lot more difficult to pedal.
I knew immediately what had happened and, channeling my late father, I unleashed a flurry of expletives that would have made him proud. Upon closer inspection, this finishing nail was embedded in my back tire as perfectly as if someone drove it in with a hammer.

I definitely got my cardio in for the day because I had to push that 50lb bike two miles home. I tried some tire sealant from a brand called Flat Out. The product got decent reviews but didn’t work and just oozed out of the hole in the tube and made a complete mess of my bike. The next day I bit the bullet and ordered a set of more puncture resistant Schwalbe Marathon Plus tires and they’re currently enroute from Oregon.

For now, the wheels are off (which is no easy task for an ebike with all of the wire harnesses and extra parts) and I’m just waiting on those new tires to get here. Hopefully, I can remember how to put it all back together.
Getting More Eyes On Hive

Speaking of that VanMoof PowerBank review, I cross-posted it to LinkedIn (very easy to do with the button below) and it’s been one of my best performing LinkedIn articles in a long time. Nearly 2,300 views and counting!
With engagement at an all time low I would encourage you all to start cross-posting your blog posts to other social media outlets to try to get more eyes on Hive. Proper tags are vital, so make sure you use relevant tags on LinkedIn, Twitter, etc. when cross-posting.
Must Streams of 2021
If you’re as desperate for new things to watch as we are, I highly recommend that you add the Kominsky Method to your watchlist.
It's a comedy that is super funny but doesn’t insult your intelligence, which is a rare thing these days. The interplay between Micheal Douglas’ and Alan Arkin’s characters rank right up there with the best comedy duos in history as they experience the joys and challenges of aging. Anyone with aging parents or those of us who are “seasoned” ourselves will instantly connect with the plot.
Watch it, you won’t be disappointed.
All for now.
With Gratitude,
Eric Vance Walton

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.
Pick up a copy of Ephemera today on Amazon.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.
These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. Let’s Keep In Touch

Oh dang, that sucks! At least you are able to take care of it yourself. It sounds like a bit of mess disconnecting everything properly. Probably a great feeling to not need to rely on a shop to help you. I can totally dig that. I just fixed our clothes dryer the other weekend and it was a great feeling. I think it impressed my wife a bit too :). I have been cross posting to Twitter for a while now. The funny thing is most of my followers are crypto people, so I am not really sure how much it is "expanding the reach". My wife and I just started watching "Animal Kingdom" on Amazon Prime. It has been pretty good so far.
It does suck, big time! I've been without the bike for almost a week. Thankfully I have a back up bike, the old Raleigh. I'm looking forward to being able to ride the ebike again though. Wonderful that you could fix the dryer! That's not easy to do these days with modern appliances. Fixing something like that satisfies something deep within you. I'm praying that there are no glitches after I put the bike back together, it's not only the mechanical things that I have to worry about, it's also the electronics.
Regarding cross-posting, it's 75% science and 25% alchemy, I think. Sometimes the posts have to hit at just the right time. I wish more companies would open accounts here and just repost content they post elsewhere.
I haven't heard of Animal Kingdom, I'll look it up! McCartney 3,2,1 on Hulu is EXCELLENT if you're a Beatles fan.
Nowadays we are living in a consumer society, which does not encourage fixing, but buying new, and frequently. And that "not easy" part is often intentional from the product makers. Some of them make fixing their products as hard as possible (or even impossible). They often intentionally plan their products to fail over time to make you buy a new one.
Yes, engineered obsolescence and making things unfixable are definitely the business strategy of most companies. The "right to repair" groups are gaining steam though and I think might facilitate real change, sooner or later.
I will have to check that out, I am a Beatles fan! I rode my bike quite a bit last weekend. It helps when you have someone to do it with. He kept a tough pace but I was surprisingly able to keep up!
Good tips on driving Hive into social media sites more, never thought of some you mentioned... so there Old and Forgetful 😁
Human and Hurting Same Thing, got to see that one so keep smiling, keep going growing Hive.

Thanks Joan! Hopefully the cross-posting helps. I know a lot of people are using Twitter but often forget about platforms like LinkedIn. There's less noise on there so posts tend to get more attention.
Guilty of not using LinkedIn, benefits going there would attract many entrepreneurs in small business.
Oh, no! You have got to be kidding! That sucks more than a little bit, you know? I can relate with that tire fixer, I tried and failed with a similar product, but, when you are on the road or away from home, and trying this miracle fix for the first time? Not so cool.
Glad you ordered the newbie tires and hey! YouTube is always my go-to on the how-to. Especially as I never remember how things go back together. :)) Good luck with it! I expect a follow-up post.
Cross-posting is something I don't do too much, but, perhaps I should. Most of my friends either are all about crypto and can teach me things or are flat out not interested. Timing is everything, including posting here.
Thanks for the heads up with new things to watch! I am always interested in quality viewing. @bozz I love "Animal Kingdom!" I just started watching it.
My heart dropped when I realized what had happened because I know how much work it is to get those wheels off. Hopefully the reassembly is as smooth as the it was to get it all apart. 😳
I hope to attract more crypto-noobs and companies here. It’s a little easier to get noticed here than it is on larger platforms, maybe they’ll realize the value in that.
The Kominsky Method was so good I was sad when it was over. Season 3 was my least favorite. It wasn’t the same without Alan Arkin. His character was, by far, my favorite.
Piece of cake! You got this! :) Keep telling yourself that! I have faith that if you just push your switch in reverse, it will be just as smooth.
I'm more than curious to see if that will be realized. I would never have thought of using the site, but, really, why not? That was a great call on your part.
I will check out the Kominsky Method, although, Arkin was a draw. But, at 87, he deserves to enjoy life without the stress of having to keep up with a series. Sadly. :)
I appreciate your confidence! I'm actually not too worried about it. There's only one step (reassembly of the motor wire harness) that will be a bear.
Thanks! LinkedIn probably won't be a good fit for some content but I think it's a great place to share for the right content.
What an amazing character to close out your career with. I'm interested to hear your impressions after you watch it. Happy Friday to you!
Thank you! You too!
I'm really sorry about what just happened to your bike and that you had to push it for two miles
I really appreciate your recommendations, I am watching that series and the truth is very good, I need some chapters to reach the end.
I take this opportunity to wish you a splendid afternoonhow are you dear friend @ericvancewalton good afternoon
Thanks my friend! All is good now. I'm glad you're enjoying the series...it's a great one. I hope you enjoy your weekend!
I know all about pushing bikes home...
Attempted a BHOP over a median, something I'd done a hundred times on that street in that exact location. Wasn't quite high enough... Somehow managed to jam the derailleur into the spokes which bent it all to crap, broke the chain, and punctured the tire. Took me one whole second to achieve all that...
Running out of gas in the middle of nowhere though, while on a CRF450R; that's one of those cases where one invents new expletives.
Oh Jesus man, sorry to hear that. It's funny all the things that run through your mind when you realize you're stranded. I was also worried about someone trying to steal the bike while I was walking it back through our neighborhood. There's lots of crime around our area these days.
A strange woman approached me in her vehicle, while I was pushing the dirt bike. I had already walked/pushed the bike through a wooded trail, down a backroad about a mile, then I was pushing along a primary gravel road, still way out in the middle of nowhere, a few farms here and there spread apart. This lady pulls up, I thought to offer help (left my phone so I don't lose it or break it) but instead tells me, "You can't be doing that on the road!" Some people despise dirtbikes and ATVs on the roads. I said it's not even running. A little more attitude from her then she floors it and spins rocks at me.
This world...
I'm somewhat stranded, in a sense, now. I bugged out; got the hell outta town. Spending majority of my time out in the middle of nowhere these days by choice. Only going in for supplies. Keeping out of the chaos. Canada is cooling down though, apparently.
That's crazy. What's wrong with people? Chaos is right. I think it's time to get away from the city.
"What's wrong with people," is probably the exact same thing she was thinking about me...
LoL!
Lol.
Hope that set of tires arrive soon while the weather's still good Eric, you need to make the most of summer! That's a hectic nail for sure!
Your idea of cross-posting to other social media sites is really worthwhile trying, as yours proved to be successful. I would never have thought of LinkedIn even though it's been sitting staring me in the face.
We all need to get active in promoting Hive wherever we can!
Thanks Lizelle! I just got the notice that they were out for delivery for late today! I’ll set aside some time tomorrow morning to install them.
I only occasionally cross posted to LinkedIn but think that the tags made all the difference this time and it coincided with the PowerBank product launch.
I very much agree that we all have to be ambassadors of sorts. I see some people shilling the platform as a way to make money but that raises red flags for so many people now. If we promote the other virtues of Hive it might be more effective. Thanks for dropping by!
That's very true about the red flags being raised as I've told a couple of people about the amazing community but as soon as I mention one can actually earn crypto, it's like they see SCAM signs and immediately change the subject, so you're very right there! Thank you for pointing that out, a vital issue I believe and one to beware of!
It's so tough because we know that a majority of crypto isn't a scam but so many of the "normies" are flooded with the mainstream media horror stories. You're welcome Lizelle. I wish you a wonderful Friday!
A wonderful Friday and weekend for you as well Eric, it's suddenly freezing here! A real winter's day!
Thank you! Stay warm my friend!
I was relieved that it was a literal nail. For a moment, I thought some joint or something had given in! Nevertheless...
I take your point about LinkedIn bus suggest that not all content jives with that market. What I post here,is personal and, I would posit, generally has no appeal to my LinkedIn network. That said, there has been the odd post that would appeal, and I have posted it there. With some good traction. Perhaps it's time for another.
Lol. I'm glad it was just a tire and not a joint. That's right, only certain content would work on LinkedIn.
I do not use Linkedin much, but have just posted about what I have been doing on Hive. It is relevant as I have used some of the same programming skills I need for my work to compile the Brit List. I have made my code available if others want to do the same for other countries or regions. It may help to see the growth.

Bummer! But at least your Dad would have been proud. Fifty pound bike?! What is it made of, iron?
I so suck at tags. Must be I could use a little good old alchemy.
I hope you get your bike back soon.
I actually used some of his tools when I was doing the job and it put a smile on my face. Yeah, it's 42lbs by itself and nearly 50 with the external battery. It's weighs that much because of the batteries and electric components. Tags aren't always easy. I just try to match them to what the content in the article is about instead of just choosing popular ones. Thanks, I hope you enjoy the weekend!
It's a shame, it's useless for us to glue the tire. I need to buy a new tire right away. As a child, there were three patches on the tire and everything was fine, now it's pointless. Marketing move :)
We used to do a lot of patching too! Yes, they want you to spend more and more $$!
What kind of wheel do you use? Thick or thin one?
I have been looking for a new movie to watch. Thanks for the suggestion.
I went with a 28" x 2" tire. You're welcome!
I never really thought about it before but yes all the wires etc to an ebike can make it a bit of a complicated mess. Glad to see you doing it yourself though I love those types of projects and learning along the way.
Awesome tool as well for getting more eyes on posts I'm going to need to check that out some!
It's definitely more complicated than a regular bike. Thankfully this one is easier/simpler than most ebikes. The wires are all condensed into one harness in the front and one in the back. Yes, I think it's a matter of finding which blog content works on which platforms. It's been a lot of trial and error for me.
@ericvancewalton I hope you can fix your bike without any inconvenience. A friend of mine used to take pictures of the parts of his old car when he had to take them apart, he was not a mechanic but he liked to repair his car by himself.
Thanks for your recommendations, it's not really common to use LinkedIn but now that you mention it, it's a great tool.
Thank you! Taking photos is a good idea. Thank God for YouTube. I used it more than once during the reassembly.
