Wonderful that you could fix the dryer! That's not easy to do these days with modern appliances. Fixing something like that satisfies something deep within you.

Nowadays we are living in a consumer society, which does not encourage fixing, but buying new, and frequently. And that "not easy" part is often intentional from the product makers. Some of them make fixing their products as hard as possible (or even impossible). They often intentionally plan their products to fail over time to make you buy a new one.

Yes, engineered obsolescence and making things unfixable are definitely the business strategy of most companies. The "right to repair" groups are gaining steam though and I think might facilitate real change, sooner or later.
