We finally made it to our geodome at Klarhet resort in Lutsen. After we unpacked, we got immediately acquainted with the goats and chickens they keep on the property, and even managed to hike a bit of the Superior Trail.
The goats are quickly becoming one of our favorite attractions around here. One even escaped its pen this morning when we were feeding them and I had to herd it back on the other side of the gate. I guess I can add goat herder to the resume.
Klarhet is a resort focused on environmental education and consciousness. The hosts, Nicole and Kirk, have done a wonderful job creating a peaceful environment that brings you much more in harmony with the natural world.
The location of Klarhet couldn't be better. We're just a few miles from Lutsen Ski Resort and a multitude of trailheads for hiking.
Today we hiked up the mountain to a scenic overlook where you could see for miles. We also crossed over the picturesque falls of Poplar River.
The views were absolutely stunning. I wish the pictures and the video could do them justice but, unfortunately, they don't even come close.
We found the foundation of a very old group of buildings about two miles into the wilderness. I would guess these had been there since, at least, the late 1800's. There was nothing there to indicate what stood there, maybe the remains of a logging village?
We ventured onto a smaller path that splintered off of the main Superior Hiking trail and were rewarded with this spectacular view, a calm branch of the Poplar River. It was one of the most peaceful spots I've ever experienced. The water was teeming with fish and tadpoles. At that moment time stood almost completely still and it felt like we were a million miles from civilization.
If you ever find yourself on the North Shore of Lake Superior or live close enough to make a road trip, I highly recommend staying in this area, you won't be disappointed. That's all for now, the goats are hungry. : )

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.
These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. For me, nature transmits peace and freedom, and connects me with my inner self, when I am surrounded by nature, is when I am happiest, I can see that you enjoyed it blessings.
I feel the same way. Nature never fails to recharge me. Thanks!
Always enjoy your nature walks / hikes!
Have a terrific Fourth of July! @ericvancewalton

Upvoted 👌 (Mana: 65/75) Liquid rewards.
Thanks, Nina! Happy Fourth of July to you and your family also! Any big plans?
It's always beautiful, soaking up all that natural air and being at peace with the environment. I love the look of the goats and yeah, goat herder would make an excellent addition to any resume. Hehe.
I'll be logging into LinkedIn and added that to my resume right away. That would definitely confuse some folks. Lol.
Or you could get calls immediately on how quickly you could transport yourself to herd some goats. I say it's a win.😂
Wish I have experienced this fantastic view of the river as a reward of a challenging hike! It truly brings peace and tranquility to the beholder. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for reading and commenting!
How beautiful the area is! You could easily lose yourself in the vast expanse of nature there. The dome is more roomy than I imagined it would be and it has some elegance to it. Hahaa the goat followed you....mind you don't wake up to him staring in your window lol
Happy 4th!!
Thank you, Tamara! I love this area and would consider moving if it wasn't for the extremely harsh winters. We have bad ones in the Twin Cities but the North Shore "kicks it up a notch". Yeah, this dome is enormous (as large as our condo), there's another bedroom in a second story loft so they utilize the vertical space well. Lol, the animals recognize us now that we've fed them. They all rush to the fence when we walk by. They got blueberries yesterday and I think that blew their minds a bit. : )
Hehehehehehe with this I strongly recommend you add the goat herder to your resume because you sure are on that path😃
Lol. I support this 😁
Yeah, I really hope they don't escape their pen again. I was successful in getting a single one back in but couldn't manage more than one. Herding goats is a little like herding cats apparently. : )
It's great to hear how you immediately connected with the animals on the property, particularly the goats.
It's clear that Nicole and Kirk has done a great job in creating a peaceful environment for the animals and allow others to appreciate nature too.
I loved learning about the scenic overlook, the picturesque falls of Poplar River, and all the hidden gem of the calm branch of the river.
Thank you for sharing.
This is a great place. Being educated about how to live in a more environmentally conscious way has shifted my perception about how wasteful we are back home. This was their aim. We have lots of room for improvement. Thanks, so glad you enjoyed the blog!
It is really an amazing place to experience with the beauty part of nature and surroundings.
The environment looks beautiful and cool to visit with the lovely view of nature which is very attractive to appreciate nature.
That looks like a pretty cool place. The scenery is amazing too! That dock looks like a perfect place to do some fishing! I have never been bear a goat except maybe at a zoo. I think they are pretty cool though. I like the idea of cities using them to fight blight and keep overgrown lots under control.
It's gorgeous here! We had that same thought about the dock. : ) These goats are really tame, kind of like dogs. The young white one isn't sure about humans yet. They use the goats in the same way here. They release them on the grounds every so often and don't need to mow. Most of the property is just left natural but the goats take care of the weeds and overgrowth. They're eating machines. The owners tell guests not to wear loose clothing because they'll even eat that.
Oh my! That is pretty crazy. I'd lose so many clothes! I am glad you are having a great time.
We were very careful, because they certainly were trying to eat our clothes. Thanks!
😃

The nature is fantastic, as if from another planet, I can imagine how clean the air is there. How beautiful our planet is, beyond words. Have a nice holiday .
When you're used to living in the city, like us, this wilderness is like heaven. It's so clean and peaceful in comparison. There's also life everywhere you look --- insects, birds, fish, rabbits, etc. It really shows how polluted the cities are.
It will always be necessary to go back to nature! In ancient times, people lived surrounded by greenery and fed themselves with whatever they could find. Although they hunted and had to forage for food daily, I doubt that there was stress, that evil that afflicts us in this day and age. To sleep and wake up lulled by the sounds of nature, and not by the noises of the big cities, must be medicinal, gratifying, rejuvenating. Your laughter looks genuine, at peace with life, broad. Fun and more photos and videos. Greetings, Eric!!!
Thank you Nancy! It was so much fun to reconnect with nature for those five days. Life must've been more stressful in some ways back in ancient times but I can guess it was more fulfilling. This is probably why it's so necessary for us to revisit nature from time to time to "recharge our batteries", we crave that connection because it's encoded in our DNA. I hope your week has been wonderful!
That sounds like an amazing trip! I love that you got to meet the goats and chickens, and that you found such beautiful hiking trails. The views looks really incredible, and I'm glad you had such a peaceful experience.
It was a lot of fun! We're very lucky to have this place so close to us. It's about 4.5hrs north, by car. I hope your week is going well!
My week is doing well so far! this weekend i have a photography job!! i will have to be the photographer of a graduation and they will even pay me, i'm so excited about!
That is awesome! There's nothing better than getting paid for doing what you love! This may lead to many more jobs. My fingers will be crossed for you.
Thanks Eric for the amazing pictures and beautiful videos. What a very pleasant holiday. have a nice day.
You're welcome! Thanks for stopping by! Enjoy your evening, Eliana.
I have watched the whole video this baby goat is very beautiful and the way we see it is a very special place and going to such places and seeing natural things and seeing many special things. By doing this, a person gets a lot of peace and what happens in a person's life becomes very peaceful, because there must be some kind of trouble in a person's life. Enjoy your trip man.
One of the goats gave birth to two more little ones just before we left. We discovered this on our last day. The owner of the property was keeping them separated from the rest of the herd.
Thank you!
Both kids of goat looks to cute. Most welcome dear.
