JEAN DE CALAIS
Source
Jean de Calais had his plan. The following Sunday, he hid two pistols loaded with powder under his clothes and nailed the three portraits to the right side of the car. This done, he said to the coachman:
“Go by the side of the cathedral. The king and queen will return from high mass. Try to pass close to their carriage, showing them the right side of mine."
"Master, you will be obeyed."
As he passed near the king's carriage, Jean de Calais discharged his two pistols into the air. Then the people rioted.
“To death, the stranger! Kill the assassin! He shot the king and the queen. To death! To death!"
“Stranger,” said the king, “what have we done to you? Why did you want to kill me and the queen?
"King, these two pistols were only loaded with powder. I wanted to force you to look at these three portraits."
Then the king and queen looked at the three portraits and began to cry.
“Stranger, speak. Speak quickly. Tell us about these three portraits."
"King, this is my wife. King, this is our son. King, here is my wife's younger sister, whom I recognized as my child."
"Stranger, these two girls are mine."
"King, I paid six thousand pistoles for them to the pirate captain who stole them from you."
"Stranger, what is your name?"
"King, my name is Jean de Calais."
"Jean de Calais, get into my carriage and come and dine with us."
Jean de Calais obeyed. The king had him seated at his right, before the greatest nobles of the country.
“My friends, this is my son-in-law. This is the man who will command you when I am dead. Jean de Calais, this very evening, you are going to leave on a great journey. So, drink, eat, don't let yourself lack anything. This very evening, you will return to your country, and bring back here my two daughters and my grandson."
What was said was done. That same evening, Jean de Calais embarked on a beautiful ship, full of handsome gentlemen and beautiful ladies, who were going to Bordeaux. Among these passengers was a young man, honest and helpful like no other. Jean de Calais quickly made him his great friend and confided to him all his secrets.
One night, the two of them were chatting, as usual, leaning over the side of the ship. The weather was superb, and the moon rose clear and bright in the sky.
“What happiness! My great friend", said Jean de Calais. "Every day brings me closer to Bordeaux. Soon I will see my wife and children again. Soon, the four of us will leave again, to live happily in Lisbon, Portugal. My great friend, I will never forget your services. Let's not leave each other again. I have what it takes to make you rich."
"Jean de Calais, I am willing."
But this man was a traitor, who had been watching for a long time for the opportunity to do something bad. He pretended to pick up something from the ground, quickly grabbed Jean de Calais by the legs, and threw him into the deep sea. The unfortunate man was swimming, crying for help. No one came. Already the ship was moving as far as the eye could see.
Jean de Calais was still swimming. But he felt that this could not last.
“Holy Virgin, have pity on me."
At that moment, a Great White Bird was flying through the night, skimming the great sea.
“Jean de Calais, I am the soul of the poor dead man. Jean de Calais, you have done me a favor. I haven't forgotten it. You will not miss my help."
And the Great White Bird flew away I don’t know where.
Jean de Calais was still swimming. But he felt that this could not last.
“The Great White Bird lied. Holy Virgin, have mercy on me."
At that moment, a beam passed floating on the sea. Quickly, Jean de Calais seized it and climbed on it.
“Thank you, Holy Virgin. You took pity on me. The Great White Bird did not lie."
For three days and three nights, Jean de Calais floated, without eating or drinking, without seeing anything but the sky and the water. Finally, he landed almost dead on a rock, on a rock without trees or greenery, in the middle of the great sea.

Hello, my name is Vincent Celier.
I am writing translations of folk tales that I found in public domain French books, so that people who do not understand French may enjoy them too.
Jean de Calais was well received by the king and queen in Lisbon because he gave him the news that their daughters were alive and well.
Unfortunately, during the trip from Lisbon to Bordeaux, Jean de Calais was tricked by someone he thought was a friend. What will happen to him on the rock in the middle of the sea? And what will happen to the two princesses and his son?
This morning, Kati and I visited her sister Gabi (Gabriella) to give her the used books that we bought yesterday.
Gabi is collecting the fantasy books this author wrote, whose pen name is either in Hungarian "Lőrincz L. Làszlò" or in English "Leslie L Lawrence". I know that this guy is Hungarian and neither of these two pen names is his real name.
Tomorrow, Agi (Agnes), the daughter of Kati, is arriving from Edinburgh with her two daughters. They are coming for the celebration of the 90th birthday of their grandmother and great-grandmother next Sunday. Tomorrow morning, Kati and I will go to Budapest Airport to greet them and bring them to Pécs.
Here is a picture of the two girls that is displayed in the living room of Kati's mother.

Love can be so thin on one side, but very thick on the other side, it depends on which side you have, I never imagined that this man was pretending all that time, to then betray Jean de Calais, in my land we call that, that he stabbed him in the back.
I just have to follow the story to see how our friend Jean de Calais develops.
wow you have a nice collection of books, and that picture is of the girls, it is very cute, I have many pictures of my daughters, I also have two girls.
That makes me a lucky dad, they are always consenting me, they already know how to make cookies and every time I want I tell them to make cookies for their daddy, and they make them.
I hope you have a great time with the visit of the girls and their mom.
Jean de Calais was indeed a man full of wisdom, I really like the way he approached the king of Lisbon in Portugal with the three portraits of his wife, her sister and his son.
The king was also very happy with Jean de Calais when he had that his two daughters were still alive and that he had married the eldest sister and they now have a son. This also made him invite Jean de Calais to dine with them.
The poor dead man in the village Jean de Calais helped also kept to his word that he was going to help Jean de Calais, he helped him when he was just about to drown in the water.
What I just hope is that the white bird will help him, because Jean de Calais was really hungry and tasty when he got to the mountain.
Wow, you guys actually got plenty of books at the store, and I know Kati's sister Gabi(Gabriella) will be happy to have the books.
My curiosity is piqued and I am dying to find out what happens to Jean de Calais in the next chapter of the story. For the present things seemed to be moving well with him, getting a good family, and uniting with his father inlaw who names him his successor until trouble knocks on his door again in the form of the traitor that attempted to get him drowned in the sea. But the soul of the dead man in form of a great white eagle gave Jean de Calais hope again. I have no doubt he will survive the horrible ordeal of being lost at sea and be reunited with his wife and son again and I presume confidently he will eventually succeed the King of Portugal.
Thanks for sharing, @vcelier.
You have a big and interesting family and those little relatives of yours look adorable. I hope the get-together will be a successful and happy one as your loved ones visit home for the birthday celebration.
Goodbye and God bless. My regards to you and your family.
This is getting more interesting, I kept imagining every scene in my head. From the way Jean de Calais left yesterday with the three portrait to Portugal, I suspected he was going to see the king, the father to his wife. It's a good thing the king saw the portraits and welcomed him in his castle. At this point, I wish Jean de Calais father was alive to see how great his son has become. I learnt a very important lesson from this part that we should trust no one, the people we call friends might be the ones planning evil against us. Just look at how that man betrayed Jean de Calais, I wonder what his plans was, or did he wanted to go and claim Jean de Calais's wife with everything that the king promised him? Some people are just wicked. That God for the dead man's soul (the bird) that came through for him. That is why it is good to be good because you never know where you deeds will pay off. This part just left me thinking and I so much hunger for the next chapter.
Wow! 90th birthday! That's a huge blessing, happy birthday to her in Addy. Your little relatives looks so adorable, especially the one in blue.
It has been inside him all this while, this wisdom and courage. His plans on how to meet with the king and queen of Lisbon goes to prove that he is indeed wise.
I love the reception given to him like the hero he truly is.
A traitor and a backstabber, too bad but for his kindness to the poor dead man, Jean De Calais would yet again win. The large bird came to repay him and now he's safe.
Katie's sister must really love books
Katie has beautiful granddaughters, I wish them safety as they fly in from Edinburgh.
Firstly, I must commend Jean De Calais for making a great move of trying to locate the parents of his wife and her sister. I was already thinking about it that it would not make sense for those girls to live with him forever without him knowing their parents or without their consent. I'm glad he went in search of them. I'm also happy that those girls are princesses and Jean De Calais will live the rest of his life in happiness. Kudos to him for helping the girls in the first place.
Also, I'm glad that the King and Queen welcomed him even though the first approach was quite a bad one but at the end of the day, he was recognized as their son in law. I am also happy that the King said he should bring his wife, sister and his child to come stay with them.
But I'm sad. I wonder why that man threw Jean De Calais into the sea. He is jealous and that's why we have to be mindful of who we trust. Jean De Calais trusted the man but the man betrayed him. That's so bad but I'm glad that Jean De Calais is not dead.
Although Jean de Calais was unfortunately deceived during his journey, let's hope that everything will be resolved positively for him.
As for the rock in the middle of the sea, there is no mention of what exactly will happen, but let's hope that Jean will find a solution or that someone will come to his aid.
On the other hand, the two princesses and their son could be waiting for more news, or perhaps they are also working to find a solution to their situation.
We will see what happens in the next chapter.

I knew Jean de Calais intentionally discharged his pistol to the air to get the attention of the king.
I knew Jean de Calais is an intelligent person which is why he decided to make the honest man on the ship is friend and confided in him.
Well, the honest man ended up being a bad person which he thinks it’s an opportunity for him to get what he wanted.
Which is why he threw Jean de Calais to the sea.
Fortunately for him,he saw a white great bird which is the soul of the poor the dead man he once helped.
I can say, his attitude really helped him and also as the white great bird as once said that he will definitely help Jean de Calais.
I am glad he could survive
Let’s see the next phase of the story.
Jean De Calais showed wisdom and integrity. He was able to catch the King and Queen's attention and then tell them about their Princesses, how he rescued them and married the eldest and how they now have a son. The reception was grand but the supposed friend turned to be a traitor.
Thank God for The big bird who rescued him from drowning.

Wow
A lot of intriguing and amazing happenings in this part.
First off, Jean De Calais shot powder from the pistoles. That was tricky and he succeeded in getting the attention of the king and his queen to the portraits.
Jean De Calais must me smart!
John was too quick to call the sly his friend, not knowing he never meant well for him.
How could a friend push you into the sea?
Humans can camouflage though. More reason why you should trust no one.
On the other hand, it is good to be good.
The spirit of of the poor dead man is still well-meaning to Jean De Calais. That's impressive.
Let's see what becomes of Jean on the next part!
I see light at the end of the tunnel though.
Meanwhile, you guys got a number of used book collections. Nice.
And, the two girls that is displayed in the living room of Kati's mother are very pretty.

Very cute girls both. These are some special moments when we met with our loved ones.
I think Gabi has a great fond of reading books. She was looking very happy on recieving these books. I also read stories but I wish to have some spare time.
If we talk about the story, Jean was well doing as he made a portrait and find out their parents.
It was great blessing for both king and queen that they have their daughters very soon.
They will lived happily.
Jean de must have really planned his plans detailing and this is good. At the end of the day, this bring reality to a lot of things to be achieved. And not only that one of the things that helped him was he was actually surrounded with a lot of people and servant that is always ready to carry out his or her instructions no matter how it may be.
Thank God he was able to capture the attention of the king and queen with that two pistol but the truth is it was risky for me because the people are already shouting that he is an assassin and which is also dangerous for him. He can be murdered because of that but thanks his goodness he didn't happened that way.
The habit of reading books is very good. A person's knowledge continues to increase throughout his life and the way his sister bought and kept books is very good. Enjoyment is the same way life is spent laughing together with each other.
The way the prince has fulfilled his promise and saved the daughters of the king of the other country from trouble and sent them back to their home safely, due to which the prince of the other country is very happy and so The kind of brave people are, they protect their country and their people.
The good thing is that he has also married two princesses and then they have children.
#hive #posh
It's going interesting. Finally the king and queen find his daughters and Jean do the best thing for his wife and wife's sister. And in reward he may become the future king . But it's hurting that he thought that man was his great companion but he cheated on him and betrayed him it's not good Jean was a good man he don't deserve that hope he found his happiness back.
I think we should 1st observe the persons who are besides us and never tell them secrets at all because no one is a true friend in this fake world. But I still have the one who is best.
Wow books are the good source of mind freshing. Hope the guest enjoy their grand mother's birthday. Have a great day enjoy.
I'm impressed by Jean de Calais's willingness to help others, even when it put him at risk. He rescued the two girls who were kidnapped by the pirate captain, and he even befriended the traitor who ultimately betrayed him. Jean de Calais was a truly kind and compassionate person.
oh man, it is very difficult to believe on the people these days, they pretent to be very nice with you and they say they are your friend, but actually they are not your friend, they are with you to betry you and take benefits from you and after that, they kick you out from their life. I have experienced it my life.
that's what happened with our friend Jean de Calais, hopefully he will learned a lesson from this and will choose his friends very carefully.
booking reading is a good habit, I'm very happy to see all these books in Gabi's collection, she must be a very knowledge able person.
oh their grand mother and great grand mother are alive? <3 they must be very lucky people to have old people to guide them in their life.
I wish them advance happy birthday, are you going to join the birthday @vcelier ?
