Actually, most PhD's don't make much money. They work in Academia and there's not a lot of pay there. I'm finishing a doctoral degree myself, and it won't make my salary go up at all. Plus, these degrees are expensive! :)

Yea, I know academia doesn't have much money in it, I am a lab tutor at University of Wollongong and currently looking into PhDs, I know first hand their is not much money in this line of work, I have friends who graduated with me and are less educated than me working in some MNC company making 3-5 times as much as I am in a month. So their not much money in gaining a Doctorate, unless and until you have royalities coming from a very valuable research. Even the professors that I am working with are not making much.
