Never Let Mediocrity Enter Your Success Dictionary Ever Again!

I’m quite sure that for most of you, you are unhappy or disatisfied with the current state of your life right now. And perhaps, you are frustrated because you are not where you want to be. Ask yourself, how many of you would like to have plenty of many money but are not exactly well endowed at the moment? How many of you would kill for having a well-toned or beautiful body that would attract tons of admirers but still look pretty much like ordinary Joe right now? How many of you would like to marry the boy/girl of your dreams but still remain hopelessly single till this day?

Well the truth is, life will not give you what you want. In fact, life will give you what you will settle for!

To many of us, often we desire to reach a higher level of standard but fall desperately short of it, then we give ourselves the excuse that it is alright not to achieve our targets and settle for something less.

Because pushing ourselves to reaching the level of high standards invloves some degree of pain. For example, sacrificing some TV time in exchange of studying for our exams. Meeting clients after office hours to close a deal.

Human beings, unfortunately, are driven more to avoid pain than to obtain pleasure. Hence, we are willing to settle for something less rather than venture into the unknown because we do not know what sort of pain we may face in the process even though we know that if we are able to achieve a higher level of success, we would enjoy greater rewards. Therefore, we happily settle for something less as we know that we could enjoy certain rewards which is smaller. Hence, many people would rather contend with the momentarily entertainment gained from watching TV rather than work hard now to earn millions of dollars in the future.

How can you raise your own standards?

Firstly, you have to get dissatisfied and uncomfortable with your current level of achievement. By this, you have to inflict more pain on your mind yourself about having to settle on your current status. For example, if you want to lose more weight, write down as many reasons why you must lose those extra shreds of kilograms:

  • My girlfriend/boyfriend does not like seeing the fat side of me!

  • I would not be able to squeeze into my tight jeans!

  • I cannot run and keep up with my grandchildren!

The important thing is to make yourself feel the pain of not taking the action to lose more weight. AND, you got to feel it to the extent that it makes it an absolute must for you to take the necessary actions to lose those weight!

Then, implement and put in place an action plan to drive you to your new standards! Before you undertake this action plan, you have to associate ‘pleasure’ with this plan. Pleasure would be a great motivating force that pushes you to undertake this action plan. If you do not do so, you will continue to link ‘pain’ to this plan. And, as we all know, we tend to avoid pain and most likely will not be motivated to seeing through this plan.

As such, when implementing this action plan, you have to implement a system of rewards to pamper yourself to reinforce the ‘pleasure’ of implementing the action plan so that you would be motivated to follow through till reach your goal.

Have you ever seen a dolphin training before?

Dolphin Training

Normally, a trainer would reward the dolphin a fish each time it were to jump out of the water. Overtime, the dolphin would get used to the reward and not jump as high as they could. Therefore, the trainer discontinued rewarding the dolphin after making a jump. This causes the dolphin to jump higher in order to be rewarded. And this time, to reinforce, the trainer rewards the dolphin when making a higher jump. Henceforth, the dolphin would not anticipate to be rewarded and would continue to make higher jumps and give its full efforts to out-jump its previous attempts.

You are like the dolphin and tend to anticipate your rewards at lower standards. Therefore, you must train yourself to consistently reward yourself after you have attained higher standards. This way, you would sufficiently motivate yourself not to sink back into mediocrity again.

Let's become dolphins;)

Greetings, Tanata

It's as the saying goes, in pain, not gain.

It is much easier for us to stay in our comfort zone, because it brings SECURITY than we leave it to seek something better. The point of this is that when we get out of it, we are taking risks, both to achieve better things and to lose everything. This involves maturity, self-esteem, risk management, etc ...

I think that not all people are willing and not prone, because, for the great majority, getting out of the comfort zone would be like removing the ground that the person treads. This would cause anxiety / depression in her. Anxiety for seeing the problem as being too big being impossible to solve it and depression after that, by frustrating their expectations of ability to solve a new question that arises.

Very cool your text.
I'm good with sp now and how you helped me when I had practically 0 sp, I want to help you and contribute. I will give my vote with 100% for you in this post. Thank you very much for your help and good morning !!!

ps: The pictures with dolphins are beautiful !!!

your thought really best dear.. i see the establishment of the statement that quitters never win and winners never quit. Just yesterday i lost my already prepared post to my crashed PC, i was very fustrated about writing it all over, but the can do spirit made motivated me to write again, and i posted it that same yesterday. I just hope the double effort will worth it. many people they says rather keeping high goals and falling lets keep short goals which we can achive any costs.it does not sounds good for me.thanks to sharing for your good post dear friend..@tanata ... very well done..

Very elegant way to present you, The truth is in all your words.
It is possible to get many useful examples from your writing. well done and keep it up.

It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation...
Great inspiring article @tanata

I love that analogy! Yes, I completely agree that we can learn a lot from dolphins. Thank you for the insight!

absoluely correct i came across this issue with many people they says rather keeping high goals and falling lets keep short goals which we can achive any costs.it does not sounds good for me.thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Truelly many of us are discontented and unsatisfy with our current position but the fear of the unknown truelly makes alot chicken out.
