Surrounded by green in different shades of green. Middle of summer, everything steamy hot down here, taking a Sun Thursday stroll in nature.
Looking directly into sub-tropical bush all that you see is a sea of green, here you have a glimpse of the blue ocean behind to off-set the two colours side by side.
Giant Stralitzia also known as giant white bird of paradise or wild banana, alongside Palm trees popping their heads out to catch the cool breeze, below wild fig, stranglers attached to trees a mix of dense bush full of nourishment for all the wildlife hidden in among this little haven.
Let's get down in under the canopy to see the lower plants, one of our thirty-eight African Cycad species, some grow slow, others stand up to frost, able to endure hardship in droughts, fire they will endure, some are critical others freely available, really give the Jurassic Park feel with them around.
Mr and Mrs from an era long gone, shuffling around the forest floor reaching for the sun. Stout with fat round trunks like old people quietly watching over everything in the surroundings.
Trees provide a great look out spot for some to take cognizance of what is around, perhaps a breather before searching for food, possibly looking for a good place to build a nest, nonetheless a tree is best for birds.
Of course a tree takes a lot of strain when over-populated, everyone wants to live in the same place, cannot imagine the noise when everyone settles down to get a night's rest, arguing over the same spot everything bouncing around in this raised apartment.
Figs up the trunk, and on the limbs of the tree, fruit is plentiful just like the birds. Sometimes different makes us stop to think why a tree would bear fruit, who knows what this tree is with nodules up the trunk? The closest I found is a Jaboticaba trees possibly, not sure if this is even a local tree.
Food is plentiful in these little forested areas attracting wildlife, a pleasure to enjoy the shaded areas with damp ground underfoot. Smell the earth with damp sea breeze drifting up into the hills on hot sunny days has an aroma on the air is completely different.
Now this one I do recognize, the Sausage Tree ideal for Vegetarians (when cooked). Indigenous to South Africa, the Kigelia Africana is commonly known as the Sausage Tree, it has stunning maroon flowers, the fruits hang from the tree when ripening, well they look like their name "Sausage Tree". Edible to many animals in the forests.

It was sizzling hot on the day, very grateful for the trees Stephen.
I love the fresh air of nature. The sunlight is also good for health care. The birds are also a lovely site
Outdoors always offers surprisees @cryptocheta
I'd like to try that fruit. How is the taste?
I have to be honest, I have not tried them @psyceratopsb.
The sausage tree pods I would imagine to be something similar to pumpkin inside with hard skin covering it. However it does come with a warning, only prepare if you know how to cook it, it is poisonous to humans.
Really appreciate the mention @phototalent
As always, an interesting story and beautiful photos of nature!
Nature is a fun place to be in @eto-ka
A very beautiful view of green, sky blue and water blue cover. Nature has more colors. It is always a combination that makes a scenery looks beautiful.
Being out in thick bush enjoying the scenery one has to think back as to how different it must have been before humans invaded and took most of the trees @kcherukuri

Its bhard to be in sun in my country . temprature is 45 centigrade.
Is it humid as well @usman119 some places here do go into the 40's however do not have the humidity.
Humidity makes you feel like you have a hot wet blanket draped around you, it is very uncomfortable during those months.
What an awesome post and photography @joanstewart, really showing off the greenery of KZN! A real feast for the eyes not so, but as for the heat we're currently experiencing, been hot hot hot!
It is this crazy humidity that I cannot stand @lizelle wish winter was here already!
So amazing photos. You are happy having summer around you, while here is still end of the winter. i so love sunshine, it warms my heart and mind. Sun is my best friend.
Winter here is the most glorious time of the year @fortunee when the humidity and extreme heat are over.
Hello lady @joanstewart , on northern part of the Earth we are saying goodbay to winter. There are also feasts with mask, I hope that I manage to visite one this weekend. And the most I like about the sun coming back is that girls start to put off their coats.
Poor girls @hairyfairy bet they cannot wait to get into shorts and slops soon, make you happy as well. Enjoy the feast and masks sounds like fun.
