In many ways; heck yes, awesome, snazzy parallel, bro. In other ways, I feel like Supes also exemplifies the popular view people have of a messianic figure. Someone whose power defies all reason, flying through the sky with lasers from his eyes (heat ray, 'scuse me) to directly intervene in every porblem concerning humanity, whether manmade or otherwise. Someone who inspires many to better themselves, while simultaneously absolving the world of self-accountability. All without (deliberately) taking a single life, too.

RayEl is quite the opposite of those traits, but he is nonetheless the recipient of those common expectations, so even that side of Superman applies to him, in a less direct way.
